Episode 10: The Dinner Party

General Summary

The players find themselves in the main room of the Order of the Golden Lion chapter house within the Temple of Torm's Coming as the members of the Order begin lining up after Barriltar Bhandraddon called out for them to assemble. After assembling, Barriltar introduces each member to the party.
Barriltar Bhandraddon: "Now then, allow me the privilege of introducing you to the members of the Order of the Golden Lion. First, we have Onthar Frume, an honorable Dwarf Paladin that spends his time training our new recruits." Onthar gives a salute by placing a closed palm over his heart and bows deeply to the group. "Next we have Delhana Halyrora, a young initiate into our order who performs the most honorable and crucial task of delivering dispatches to our various houses within the Kingdom of Laskea." Delhana curtsies flamboyantly. "And here we have Neyola Veldoris, a member of the Knights of Ilmater who came to us after being pursued by the evil Zhentarim, she serves Ilmater and the Triad through her service as a researcher and envoy to the other goodly orders that serve our common purpose." Neyola curtsies elegantly to the party and also gives an additional bow to Ceona upon noticing the hands of Ilmater on her shield while she places her palm around her holy symbol of Ilmater hanging from her neck. "Next we have Cefri Zendroft, our illustrious sorceress who serves both Torm and the Lady of Mysteries, Mystra." Cefri curtsies gracefully to the group and appears to examine each of them as they walk down the line. "And here we have Frig Rhaegnhal, a female warrior of the north that came to us in an effort to increase relations between our order and those following Tyr, one of the other deities of the Triad." Frig stands with her arms crossed and merely nods at each member of the group as they pass. "And here we have Novi Autumnblaze, an amazing healer and Cleric of Bahamut that serves our order to promote the complimentary goals of both our deities." Novi curtsies shyly, smiling at each party member as they pass. "And lastly, we have Ivoire de Montauban, Knight of the Realm and Heroine to the people of Laskea." Ivoire curtsies stiffly, however she offers a welcoming smile to each player as they pass. "Thank you everyone, please return to your studies if need be." The members all nod to the group as they break from ranks and return to their previous duties. As they do so, Barriltar turns back to address the players. "There are two members of our order that are not present, Jonde Garethian is the leader of the Order of the Golden Lion, and he is currently travelling to further our message to the people of Laskea and to check in on our other chapter houses. And there is Stordon Stilldream, the oldest serving Paladin of our order who guards the entrance of the Court of Righteousness. He is currently on duty, hence the reason as to why he is not here. I appreciate each of you for humoring me, and hope that this minor demonstration inspires each of you to perhaps consider working towards joining our order. As you can see, we offer an amazing chapter house complete with various equipment that can help each of you excel in your chosen field of study. Not to mention the camaraderie you can expect from working alongside heroes of the realm. Now, if you all would be so kind as to follow me, I will lead you back to the keep entrance."
Kasek inquires as to what exactly the Order of the Golden Lion does. Barriltar reveals that they seek to promote justice and righteousness throughout the Kingdom of Laskea, and the order is a branch of the Church of Torm. They work to fulfill the Penance of Duty, which comprises of three 'debts'. The Debt of Persecution involves aiding other goodly faiths. Most members of the Order guard the temples of many peaceful or goodly deities that would otherwise be unprotected, and even help reconstruct them. Some journey on quests to retrieve the lost relics of these faiths. The Debt of Dereliction involves expending every resource possible to eliminate cults of Bane, Cyric, as well as the Zhentarim. Golden Lions fight to destroy strongholds of Banite or Cyricist faiths. The Debt of Destruction involves locating and reporting areas of dead magic and wild magic, and repairing the Weave in these places.
Barriltar continues by saying since the party has done some good for the citizens of Hirane, they come somewhat recommended, and he would be more than happy to consider them all for acceptance into the Order. Feadog asks what benefits come with joining the order...specifically if it comes with a salary or stipend of some sort. Ceona tries to pin him down specifically on whether or not they are swearing fealty to a particular organization or deity. Barriltar holds his hand up and states that he understands that it is a lot to take in all at once. He tells the party that he isn't asking for anything in particular from the party, he merely wants them to be aware that the Order does exist, and if they continue to serve the people of Laskea and continue performing acts of good, then joining the Order is certainly an option. The Order can provide money, training, weapons and armor. He also asks that if, during their travels, they happen to come across injustices or crimes, that they do the Order the service of reporting such acts so that they may respond. Kasek asks if Barriltar has any work for them, and Barriltar states that he doesn't currently. Barriltar then looks at the letters that the group had handed them, and says that he is aware that the group is seeking an audience with the King and Queen. He states that both are currently indisposed of at an event being held at the Memorial Atheneum and the Temple of Pursuance, but there will be an informal dinner party later this evening that the party is cordially invited to. At the dinner party, the group should have an opportunity to speak with the King and Queen.
Kasek nervously asks what the dinner party is for. Barriltar informs him that the Court typically holds informal dinner parties for the nobility and honorary guests visiting the Capital. It's more or less an opportunity for people to mingle and network, and can sometimes be stuffy. Barriltar leads the party back to the front desk of Bram Denskem, the Chamberlain of the Temple of Torm's Coming. Barriltar makes it known to the Chamberlain that the group is invited to the dinner party, and also informs the party that the dinner begins promptly at 9 PM, and will be held within the Throne Room. Barriltar then asks if this is the first time the party has been to Sestatrea, which they admit that it is. Barriltar offers to give them information regarding the town and asks if the party has any questions for him.
Kasek inquires as to any suspicious activity, specifically regarding gray-robed individuals with vials of liquids across their torso. Barriltar admits that he isn't aware of anything of that nature happening within Sestatrea, but once he has more time to study their missives, he will investigate if it is warranted. Kasek hands over one vial of Midnight Tears (Silver Raven Blend) poison to Barriltar, and Celindriel begins to explain what the poison is. Barriltar holds his hand up to prevent Celindriel from speaking further after seeing a few commoners around in the lobby, and asks that Celindriel be kind enough to hold off until they've had a chance to speak more in private on the matter.
Barriltar then asks if the party has appropriate attire for attending the dinner party. Feadog incredulously asks what is wrong with what he is currently wearing. Barriltar suggests that the party seek out proper clothing, and recommends they inquire at a local establishment known as Lord & Tailor. The party makes note, and Feadog then inquires as to whether or not Barriltar knows of any way of getting a discount at the Ivory Pantry Inn. Barriltar says that he doesn't know of anything in particular that could help them obtain a discount as the Inn is a private business, and he has no control over prices. Feadog then asks if there is any lodging within the Temple of Torm's Coming, and Barriltar admits that there isn't. Ceona asks where the members of the Order of the Golden Lion stay, and Barriltar states that they live on the premises as part of having membership. Feadog feigns having a sudden immediate love of Torm, to which Ceona sarcastically wonders where this sudden reverence has come from. Celindriel takes this moment to thank Barriltar for giving them the time. Ceona then speaks up and asks Barriltar why Moon Elves seem to be so racist within Sestatrea. Barriltar is taken back by the question, and admits that he isn't aware of any issues, aside from the normal small amount of xenophobia most Elves have. He then asks if there has been an incident to which they are referring. Ceona backtracks her statement, but Kasek asks if Barriltar knows of any issues with the Crescent Dream Inn. Barriltar states that he hasn't heard of any complaints. The party thanks Barriltar again for his time and take their leave.

The Party Goes Shopping (Audio 00:31:20)

As the party leaves the Temple of Torm's Coming, Celindriel tells the party that she'll catch up and takes a detour by heading to the Ivory Pantry Inn. She enters the establishment and seeks out the owner, Deldrach Vajyre. He spots her as she walks in and immediately approaches her. She states that she's merely checking in and is wondering if there is anything she should know. Deldrach says that he has no news for her, but asks that she checks in with him again later just to keep in touch. She reveals that she is attending a dinner party at the Temple of Torm's Coming later that evening, and inquires as to anything specific she should be aware of or the types of individuals she is likely to meet. Deldrach tells her that she will more than likely encounter important or prominent business leaders from Sestatrea as well as Laskean Nobles, and could potentially interact with foreign dignitaries. Deldrach reminds Celindriel to keep 'her ears perked' while engaging these individuals for any useful information. She thanks him for his time, and makes her way back to join the others.

Lord & Tailor (Audio 00:34:42)

The remaining members of the party make their way to Lord & Tailor, and witness a rather ostentatious building of stone, roman columns and carved statues. A sign hangs from the front entrance reminiscent of a person's signature that simply says 'Lord & Tailor'. The party makes their way inside and sees an open floor plan room where shelves line the walls with folded clothes and mannequins placed throughout showing off various outfits, suits and gowns. Two Half-Elf females are dressed in formal attire standing attentively ready to assist any customer. Ceona takes Levkaria Yumaia over to one of the Half-Elf females and states that they're meeting with the King and Queen later that evening, and they need proper attire. The woman gauges Ceona and Levkaria and tells them that this may require an expert. She tells the individuals to wait and she excuses herself to a back room where the party can overhear her speaking with an excited male. After a few moments the Sun Elf Tarathiel Gensys emerges and studies the individuals with a careful gaze. He approaches the group, introduces himself as the owner and fashion designer of Lord & Tailor. He begins asking the individuals certain questions as to what kind of statement they wish to present for the evening's event. The party uncomfortably gives Tarathiel leave to dress them as he sees fit, and Tarathiel takes the reigns in giving them a wardrobe makeover.
Ceona begins by asking if Tarathiel can perhaps fashion some riding clothes for Levkaria. After a few moments of bantering back and forth about material, style, color, and hardiness of the construction, Tarathiel tells Ceona he could certainly meet her needs if given a week's time and 150 gold pieces. Ceona decides not to make a purchase and begins looking for clothes simply off-the-rack. Kasek, who is extremely uncomfortable and feeling awkward in this environment, inquires as to the price of clothes that come off-the-rack, to which Tarathiel explains it all depends on what he picks. Feadog then asks if he merely rents outfits for the evening. Tarathiel, along with the two Half-Elf females, take a single step back and openly gasp at such a suggestion, but Tarathiel admits that he could perhaps see his way to fulfilling such a request. He explains to the party that he has a reputation for his designer clothes making a statement, and most of his designs are one-of-a-kind. Renting such an outfit would sully his name and his reputation, not to mention decrease the value of the clothes. Ceona tries to reassure him by stating they are the Saviors of Hirane and exposed a plot to overthrow the government, and so by them wearing said pieces of clothing for one evening, it may in fact make the clothes more valuable. Tarathiel raises an eyebrow at such a statement, and looks them up and down. Surprisingly, taken by Ceona's dramatic performance, Tarathiel asks if Ceona is 'spoken for'. Ceona, taken back by the forwardness of Tarathiel, states that she is, and he sighs longingly. Tarathiel then considers her statement, and agrees that he would be willing to rent the outfits as long as they take care of his pieces. The group nods while at this time Celindriel walks in, and Tarathiel is overcome by having the opportunity to outfit a Moon Elf. He begins to gush over Celindriel, offering her several color swatches in which to dress her. The other party members clear their throat to remind Tarathiel that they were being served first, so Tarathiel tells Celindriel that he'll get back to her after he finishes with Ceona's request.
Ceona tells Tarathiel that since they are probably going to be back on the road in a short amount of time, it would be a shame to purchase a magnificent work of art as Tarathiel is sure to make for them, so merely renting an outfit for the evening would be the best option. Tarathiel agrees, and offers to 'rent' the party each an outfit for the evening for a total of 50 gold pieces. Ceona agrees and pays the gold, and Tarathiel gets to work with his assistants in outfitting the party. Over the next 30 minutes the party is measured and fitted, with each trying on their outfits and being judged by Tarathiel and his assistants. Celindriel is dressed in an elegant blue-white dress with a large amount of tulle fabric accenting her shoulders and chest. Kasek is dressed in a traditional Mountain Dwarf outfit complete with a tartan kilt, high-collared vest, long-sleeved shirt and high-socks with boots, which is much to his dissatisfaction. Ceona is outfitted in an ombre dress, white with elements of tiffany-blue fabric that is form-fitted at the top, but has ruffled-layers as it descends down from her hips. Ceona refuses to wear anything other than her riding boots, which she hikes up her skirt and stomps around the shop feeling somewhat awkward in such finery. Feadog is outfitted in a red coat, high socks with buckled shoes and an ascot (a dead ringer for Captain Hook's outfit). Feadog absolutely loves the outfit and inquires to the purchase price, which Tarathiel reveals is about 325 gold pieces. Feadog gulps and merely states that the outfit is fantastic and it will be more than sufficient to rent for the evening's event. Levkaria is dressed in a beautiful black form-fitted full-length hobble-skirt evening dress with black opera gloves complete with diamond bracelets and a diamond necklace. Levkaria looks absolutely terrified while wearing the dress and looks to Ceona for guidance. Ceona asks if the dresses have any pockets or places where one could store a knife or dagger, and Tarathiel exclaims that weapons should not be taken to the Temple for a formal evening.
The players all critique each other on their outfits, and then ask if the outfits can be delivered to where they're staying at the Crescent Dream Inn. Tarathiel says that they will fit and tailor the outfits, and see to it that they are delivered to the Inn under the name of Celindriel Bryleth. He thanks them for their patronage and pushes them out the door. The party stands out in the middle of the road and Kasek begins fuming about spending 50 gold pieces on 'clown suits' they have to wear for a dinner party. Celindriel tells Levkaria that she'll get her a thigh-sheath for her dagger, and that she's not to allow anyone to search her leg for weapons, as that would be most unbecoming of a lady to allow. Levkaria nods shyly, and the party begins walking.

3:00 PM - 13th of Vlaihr, 2272 (Audio 00:59:40)

The party decides to go shopping within the Trade District of Sestatrea and head towards Perseverance Plaza. While enroute, they pass by a strange looking building that is all black with various 'actual' skulls embedded in the walls. Upon investigation, the party determines it to the a temple dedicated to the worship of Kelemvor, and learn that it is called the Shrine of Passage. The party decides not to stop and carries on into the plaza and begins shopping. The party visits a stand selling Studded Leather, and they approach the Halfling Female working the stand. Feadog inquires as to the price and learns the armor to be worth 45 gold pieces each. Kasek asks for sheathes, and the woman informs him to check a few stands down for that type of product. As the party determines their combined sum of money, Levkaria is seen standing by herself and looking over a piece of armor somewhat inquisitively. Ceona suggests that Levkaria join her in finding someone selling flowers, and takes her deeper into the plaza, leaving Kasek, Celindriel and Feadog to continue shopping at the armor stall. Kasek asks the Halfling if she's interested in buying any used armor, and shows her their gotten-goods from previous battles. Kasek haggles with the woman, offering their old armor in trade, and winds up gaining 3 sets of studded armor for 135 gold pieces, less 18 gold for their old leather armor trade-in. Meanwhile, Ceona and Levkaria proceed into Monument Plaza and witness several guards keeping citizens away from two prominent buildings at the far end of the plaza as some event seems to be taking place. Ceona finds a merchant that sales flower crowns and purchases one for Levkaria for 1 silver piece. Ceona also acquires 6 pieces of parchment for a total of 6 silver pieces. The party rejoins with Ceona and Levkaria and begin wondering where they could potentially purchase Healing Potions, and decide to inquire with one of the guards keeping people from entering the event going on.
Ceona asks the guard if there is anywhere to buy Healing Potions, and the guard recommends that they check an establishment called Black Cat Curios which is nearby. Kasek asks what the event is that is going on behind the guard, and the guard says that it's a luncheon and social event that they're having at the Memorial Atheneum and the Temple of Persuance which is being hosted by Firen Korsk who is a prominent local businessman. The King and Queen are in attendance, and the businessman deals in food distribution, farms, bakeries, etc. The guard indicates they're celebrating something to do with Mystra since the Memorial Atheneum and the Temple of Persuance are dedicated to Mystra, but he's not entirely certain as to the exact nature of the event. Kasek asks how they might be able to attend, and the guard informs him that it is by invite only. Even if they were to gain an invitation, the event is drawing to a close soon. The party thanks the guard for the information and makes their way to the Black Cat Curios shop.

Black Cat Curios (Audio 01:19:00)

As the party walks over to the Black Cat Curios shop, they pass by another structure that looks like a large earthen mound of stone construction around the base. A plaque nearby states the building is called the Sí an Bhrú. Unable to make out exactly what the building's purpose is, they continue on. They come to the entrance of the Black Cat Curios and head inside. The interior is a hodgepodge of various knick-knacks and wondrous items such as fossils, skeletons, books, parchments, and odds and ends. Behind the desk at the rear of the room is Zelrila Kelwynn along with 13 black cats scattered throughout the room. Zelrila smiles as the group enters, and Celindriel introduces herself. She asks if Zelrila has any healing potions for sale. Zelrila informs her that she might, and as she makes her way from behind the desk, she hip-checks the corner of the desk knocking over a stack of books and papers. Celindriel helps her pick up the mess, and Zelrila embarrassingly picks up the papers as quickly as she can while apologizing nervously, and then continues to retrieve 4 Potions of Healing she has for sale for 50 gold pieces each.
The party spends some time taking stock of their coin and inventory, and decide to purchase only two Healing Potions. Ceona approaches Zelrila and begins to attempt to sell her the fancy cooking pot and ladle she acquired from Lord Andel Caldel's kitchen. Thinking she was going to be asked something else, Zelrila had begun to blush. Ceona notices and offers to join her for a drink later, but then remembers they plan on meeting with the King and Queen later that evening, and withdraws her offer. Zelrila looks somewhat crestfallen, and tells Ceona that unfortunately she isn't interested in the pot and ladle. The remaining group members give Ceona some ribbing for dashing Zelrila's hopes.
Feadog looks around the shop, and notices Zelrila acting a bit nervous and asks if Zelrila is okay. She looks confused at the question and says that she's fine. Kasek mentions that she seems a bit nervous, and she begins to explain that she is somewhat socially awkward and tends to only enjoy the company of her cats. Feadog is somewhat confused, and states that she owns a shop so surely she deals with customers on a regular basis. Zelrila admits that she doesn't get many visitors, or has many friends, and that she spends most of her time devoted to research and study at the request of members of the Memorial Atheneum and the Temple of Persuance. Celindriel asks if Zelrila herself is a follower of Mystra, and Zelrila says that while she likes Mystra just fine, she hasn't been admitted into the Temple of the Memorial Atheneum.
Ceona and Feadog begin looking along the shelves for anything interesting. Most of what they find are fossils, animal parts, skeletons, some rolled parchment containing research notes. Feadog finds one drawer full of different varieties of teeth, and asks Zelrila why in the world is she collecting teeth. Zelrila admits that, while it makes her somewhat uncomfortable, there are people that use them for spell components and various other experiments. Celindriel begins looking around the shop for any components needed for the Midnight Tears antidote. As she searches, she finds a few rolled scrolls that have arcane inscriptions on them. As she continues searching, she dodges a cat running in front of her leg and knocks over a small wooden box that opens, and a small jagged-wooden branch with a desiccated tongue lashed to the end falls out. She continues to find other interesting items such as a pearl ring and a small vial of fine-grain sugar-white sand. Celindriel eventually finds a pile of Birch Bark (one of the components for the antidote), but decides to examine the pearl ring more closely. The ring is made of a golden band that is designed to capture-hold the pearl at the apex, with the gold designed to look like two waves crashing on either side of the pearl. Looking deeper into the pearl, the pearl swirls giving the impression of liquid water ebbing and flowing within. Mesmerized, Celindriel asks Zelrila for more information about it, and she reveals it to be a Ring of Swimming for 395 gold pieces. Celindriel asks about the sand, and Zelrila tells her it is Dust of Disappearance which can be used to sprinkle in an area and causes everything to disappear. It is a one-time use item, and costs 425 gold pieces. Celindriel asks about the branch with a tongue lashed to it, and Zelrila indicates that it is a Wand of Secrets. She explains that it can be used to locate traps, secret entrances, secret latches, etc. It will pulse and then point at the closest one of those items, and it regains charges over time. It is for sale for 500 gold pieces. Feadog insists that they try it out, and Zelrila tells them that nothing would appear since she doesn't have anything 'secret' within her store that it would detect. Kasek is unconvinced, and says maybe a secret could be that she might have a 14th cat. She admits that she might, and begins counting her cats saying their names out loud and is satisfied only thirteen are there.
Ceona, being careful not to get Zelrila's hopes up again, carefully offers to sell her some Holy Water for trade or purchase. Zelrila admits that Holy Water is somewhat easy to get since there are several temples around. Kasek produces a 'mysterious scroll' from his inventory that he obtained and offers it to her for identification and possible purchase. She examines it, and states that it is a spell scroll enchanted with the spell Unseen Servant. She says she'd be willing to purchase it for 100 gold pieces. Kasek inquires about the spell scrolls that Celindriel had found earlier, and Zelrila tells him that she has a scroll called Zone of Truth, and one called Tiny Servant. Kasek decides to sell the Unseen Servant scroll and collects his 100 gold pieces.

Kasek Speaks with Cats (Audio 01:49:55)

Kasek strikes up conversation with Zelrila, and says that it appears that she is a pet person. Zelrila corrects him and states that she is a 'cat' person. Kasek is somewhat unsure what the difference is, but continues to ask if she has ever 'spoken' to her cats before. She thinks about it a moment, and states that they all talk to her in their own way either by meowing and by their body language. Kasek asks if she's ever heard of anyone ever being able to just speak with an animal in a magical way. Zelrila states that there are people that can 'Speak with Animals'...there are spells that allow such communication. Ceona asks if it's something that has to be learned or do people suddenly just gain the ability. Zelrila states that most people do have to spend some time 'learning' the ability, and learning the spell process, but there are cases of people having an innate ability to speak with animals that they discover accidentally, or during moments of extreme stress. Feadog suggests that Kasek speaks with the cats in order to see if it's something he knows how to do naturally or not. Ceona tells Zelrila that Kasek has apparently exhibited the ability to speak with animals, and if he does speak with her cats, is there anything she would like to know. Zelrila thinks a moment and then shyly asks if Kasek can find out whether or not the cats like her. Kasek looks sheepishly at everyone and states that this 'is stupid', and the others encourage him by stating they are very, very curious about what the cats have to say.
Kasek looks at a cross-eyed black cat lounging on Zelrila's counter and begins to concentrate. He begins to talk, but his voice is heard as mews from the others nearby. He asks "Hey, you!", and the lounging cross-eyed cat immediately responds "Oh hi". Kasek asks the cat for it's name, and it responds "Licorice, what's yours?" Kasek tells the cat his name, and the cat says "Hi Kasek", and Kasek tells the cat "Well met". The cat responds with a half-interested "yeah", and they continue bantering back and forth for a moment. Kasek asks if the cat likes living with Zelrila, and she says yes and that Zelrila is a good pet. Kasek asks what is the favorite thing about Zelrila that she likes, and Licorice responds that she feeds her and gives her scritches on her belly. Kasek begins to scratch Licorice on the belly, and Licorice bats at him and states "Not you!". Kasek begins to translate for the cat, and tells Zelrila her name is Licorice and the cat thinks Zelrila is the best owner ever. Zelrila excitedly picks up Licorice and begins loving on her, and Licorice asks Kasek to tell Zelrila to put her down. Zelrila does, and as soon as Licorice's feet touch the ground, she sprints off. Kasek begins looking around the room and spots another cat and calls out "Hey you!". The cat turns to Kasek and says "What?" in a rather uninterested way. Kasek is freaked out at this point, thanks Zelrila for her time and decides to leave the shop. As he walks to the exit, several more cats begin speaking to him saying "Hi" and "Hey" as he walks by. He gets to the door and sees Levkaria lying on the ground allowing some of the cats to cuddle and crawl on her. Kasek steps over Levkaria to get outside, and hears the cats just saying "Nice....this is nice" as Levkaria pets them. He exits hurriedly and closes the door behind him. Zelrila smiles at everyone else and comments that that was pretty neat. Ceona asks if she has any friends or knows anyone that may sell hand crossbows, and Zelrila directs them to check Perseverance Plaza, where they normally sell weapons. The group thanks Zelrila for her time and exit the shop.

4:35 PM - 13th of Vlaihr, 2272 (Audio 02:01:00)

Kasek approaches Levkaria and tells her that he got something for her earlier, and hands her a suit of studded armor. He tells her it should protect her in case anyone stabs at her, or shoots at her, etc. She nervously asks if that is something that is going to happen a lot, and Kasek says that he hopes not but it's always good to be protected. Levkaria thanks Kasek, and then he asks if she has any money. Levkaria tries to tell the group that she doesn't need any money, but they all agree she should have a little bit on her. Levkaria is worried that someone will only take it from her if she has any, and they give her pointers on how to conceal it. The group gives her 10 gold pieces of spending money, and they all begin to make their way back to Perseverance Plaza to look for some weapons. They find a booth selling various crossbows, and Feadog inquires about a hand crossbow. The salesman tells him 75 gold pieces is the going price, and Feadog sheepishly thanks him for his time but he would not be able to afford the weapon. Discouraged, the group decides to head back to the Crescent Dream Inn.

Celindriel Prays to Sehanine Moonbow (Audio 02:06:30)

Celindriel peels off from the group telling them she wants to head to the Sanctum of Corellon Larethian in the Elvish District, and she'll catch up with them later. The group proceeds, but Kasek decides to follow her keeping to the shadows. Celindriel is unaware of Kasek's presence and proceeds to walk inside the Sanctum. She finds the room to be of elvish construction with a high-domed ceiling that has an opening to allow light to fall upon a natural grove inside. The room is circular, and a second level is visible with a banister that allows guests on the second level to peer down into the grove. Several robed attendants stand around the grove as individuals pray quietly. Celindriel finds a secluded spot, kneels, and concentrates by praying to Sehanine Moonbow asking for her guidance, and whether she is on the right path. Kasek walks in and stands to the side of the front entrance as the Elven attendants keep an eye on him as he waits. He watches Celindriel for a moment, and then departs in front of her before she spots him.

Crescent Dream Inn (Audio 02:09:35)

Ceona, Levkaria and Feadog enter the Crescent Dream Inn and find Xalyth T'arr at her counter alone. She merely watches them enter and doesn't interact with them as they pass her by and walk upstairs. As Ceona and Feadog reach their room, they don't find any package from Lord & Tailor as they expected. Ceona heads back downstairs and tells Xalyth that she is here to pick up a package for Celindriel. Xalyth looks at her and asks "Are you Celindriel?" Ceona states that she is, in this instance since the package is to be delivered for all of them. Xalyth states that she "Has a package for Celindriel, and when Celindriel arrives, she'll be more than happy to give it to her". Ceona starts to get a little annoyed, and tells Xalyth that the package was supposed to be delivered to their rooms, and since it's not in their rooms, she feels like there is a problem here. Xalyth says "Really?", she leans in and lowers her brow at Ceona and says "I think you better reconsider you words, and consider your next words very, very carefully." Ceona says "Fine! I'll just wait right here, in the door, where everyone can see me, and wait until Celindriel gets her." Both Xalyth and Ceona continue to stare at one another with daggers in their eyes until Celindriel arrives.
Celindriel enters the Inn to find Ceona and Xalyth staring each other down. Xalyth sees Celindriel, and sarcastically says to Ceona "See, there's Celindriel", and hands Celindriel the package from Lord & Tailor. Celindriel thanks her for delivering the package, and Celindriel motions Ceona to head upstairs with her. As they ascend the stairs, Kasek walks in and sits at one of the stools at Xalyth's counter. Xalyth rolls her eyes slightly at Ceona and Celindriel as they leave and then turns to Kasek. He tells her "I need a drink...something stiff". She reaches below her counter and pulls out two goblets, along with a dark, unmarked bottle of wine and begins to pour a drink for each of them. She hands one goblet to Kasek, and palms the other for herself. Kasek smells the liquid and detects it to be an extremely unusual wine. He raises the glass and takes a drink. It tastes like the moldiest cheese he's ever tasted with a strange fruit aftertaste, and the liquid burns as the drink goes down. The room slightly tilts for Kasek for a moment, but he regains his composure in a relatively short amount of time. Kasek asks "What is that?", and she merely states "It's a strong wine that we like to brew". Kasek tells her it's a lot better than he thought it would be, and she tells him he's being too generous. She finishes her whole goblet, and Kasek asks "What do I owe you?". She says "I don't know if you have enough, to be honest" under her breath, and then states "Two silver". Confused, Kasek begins asking why she thinks he couldn't afford two silver, and she tells him to forget she said anything -- it was merely a comment. Kasek thanks her for the drink and heads upstairs.

Primping and Grooming (Audio 02:18:42)

The group spends some time preparing themselves for the evening's Royal Dinner. They find the water closet to be disgusting -- brown water, unclean and unkempt. The group does manage to clean themselves up, however, and get into their fine dress clothes. Tarathiel Gensys was kind enough to send footwear and costume jewelry for the party to wear, and the group looks appropriately regal. Ceona puts most of her and Levkaria's possessions into their bags and decides to tote them along to the dinner. The group then decides what to bring and what not to bring to the party, and are left leaving most of their possessions behind, including weapons and armor. Kasek attempts to conceal two daggers in the folds of his kilt, meanwhile Ceona is letting everyone know she's suspicious of the Moon Elves making off with their possessions while they're away. Kasek tries to calm her nervousness by telling her Xalyth doesn't want to have anything to do with them, so he doubts she would go through their possessions. He also mentions that Xalyth apparently likes him because she served him some sort of Moon Elf Wine. Celindriel decides to perform a medicine check on Kasek, just in case, but doesn't find anything wrong.
Feadog decides to bring his pan flute, and Kasek brings two daggers and a healing potion (as well as removing the Midnight Tears poison he had hidden in his beard to be left behind). Celindriel removes the boning from her corset and inserts her thieve's tools and places caltrops in her hair as she wears it up, and Ceona keeps her hammer, shield, and chainmail in a sack close to her. Levkaria decides not to take anything with her. The group checks one another over, and decides to head downstairs.

8:30 PM - 13th of Vlaihr, 2272 (Audio 02:25:40)

As they descend the stairs, they see Xalyth standing behind her counter, and she merely watches them as they walk by. Ceona drops a silver on the counter and says "Thanks for watching our packages for us". Xalyth ignores the coin and continues watching them as they leave. As they exit, they are surprised to see a carriage waiting for them. An attendant approaches them and asks if they are the guests on his list. Feadog states they are "The Heroes of Hirane!", and the attendant is genuinely impressed and shows them to the carriage. They all climb onto the carriage and begin to make their way to the Temple of Torm's Coming. Levkaria looks someone nervous, and Ceona attempts to calm her nerves. Meanwhile, Feadog is enjoying the feeling that he is finally getting the proper respect he knows he was always worthy of.
They pass through the front gates of the Temple and the carriage stops at the base of the main entrance steps. Nearby, several other carriages can be seen parked, presumably for the other guests in attendance. The party exits the carriage and begins to ascend the stairs, making note that the Sestatrean Guards are still in their spots on either side of the large doors with a servant standing in the center. As they approach, the servant opens the doors and the guards render a salute to the group as they pass inside. In the hallway, they meet Chamberlain Bram Denskem. He asks that they follow him as he'll lead them to the throne room and announce their presence to the rest of the guests in attendance.
As they walk down the hallway, Bram eventually turns to the left where a staircase leads up to the second level with large wood doors at the top. He opens the doors and the group is led into the Kingdom of Laskea Throne Room constructed of white marble, ornate statues of Lions, and blue tapestries. Off to the party's right are three thrones with a door on either end, in the center of the room is large table with fine dinnerware and center pieces, and on the left is a large flower-shaped window that overlooks the entire city. Bram turns to the party and asks how each would like to be announced. The party tells Bram and he proceeds to announce each member: Kasek Bonebrewer of Mossband, Lady Celindriel Bryleth of Aennamar, Ceona, Ambassador of Verchei, and Feadog Mhor, Pan-flute Entertainer Extraordinaire. Bram turns and exits the room, closing the door behind him. A few individuals can be seen loitering around the room, but one human approaches and introduces himself to the group.
Morrice Barrett: "Good evening. My name is Morrice Barrett. I am the Principle Secretary of his majesty King Alwyn Nede. We heard some adventurers would be joining us this evening, and I'm assuming you're them." He motions for a servant who approaches each of you offering you a glass of wine. "Please, make yourself comfortable. Part of my duty is to help individuals unfamiliar with court functions become informed. Judging by your demeanor, each of you seem a little out of place, so allow me the opportunity to bring you up to speed." Morrice then begins to point out various individuals engaged in conversation throughout the room. "Over there is the Gentleman Mayor of Sestatrea, The Right Honorable Jellrich Crouse and his wife Cristyne Crouse seen talking with the owner of the Ore Else Blacksmithy, Urmmir Sundergrass and his wife Brytdora Sundergrass." Morrice Barrett then points over to some individuals engaged in conversation near the large window overlooking the courtyard to the keep. "Over there we have Firen Korsk, a prominent businessman that has business ventures throughout the northern kingdoms and his wife Tosra Korsk currently engaged in conversation with Baron Lutjen Semanis, the son of Earl Goldywn Semanis of Ula'ree and his wife Avelyn Semanis." Morrice points to a single individual standing near a side door that the wait staff have been using. "And that man over there is Hadrian Feldhan, our Cupbearer and Royal Food Taster." Morrice will then turn his attention back to the group. "Not all of the guests have arrived, but when they do, they will be announced by his majesty's chamberlain. In the meantime, make yourselves comfortable and if you have any questions or need anything, please don't hesitate to ask." The party notices Morrice being overly animated with his hands while giving his closing remarks to the group. Celindriel recognizes him using Thieves' Cant and receives the message "I know your talents and who it is you serve. I will try to offer you insight to those in attendance." Feadog asks, if they are only announced now, how will the guests showing up afterwards know who it is that they are? Morrice explains that it is his responsibility to inform arriving guests of those already in attendance. Celindriel thanks him, as well as thanks him in Thieves' Cant, and Morrice bows and makes his way over to join Jellrich Crouse and Urmmir Sundergrass.
Celindriel informs Feadog that typically lower-status individuals arrive first, and then those of higher status arrive later. Feadog muses that they obviously should have arrived much later than they did, if that is the case. At this time, Bram Densken announces Barriltar Bhandraddon as he walks into the throne room. Barriltar sees the group and approaches them. He compliments them on their attire, and the group makes small talk with him as the remaining guests arrive:
  • Sir Evios Ruel, Knight of Laskea and Lady Ruel
  • Dame Ivoire de Montauban of The Order of the Golden Lion
  • Nobleman Padion Cûnor of Estia and his wife Calendis
  • Lady Droverson of the Temple of Pursuance
  • Halfaelor Simms, Master Brewer and Lord of James' Gate Brewery
  • Marquess Elmorn Renan, Son of Duke Harman Renan of Braedon and his betrothed Lady Molara Starspell of Daemarrel

The King and Queen of Laskea (Audio 02:48:45)

After the last guests arrive, Bram Denskem makes an announcement to the room, "Lords and Ladies, please take your places at the table." The guests finish their conversations quickly and all begin to make their way to the table, each searching the place cards for their names and taking their seats after doing so (See Seating Arrangement). The Lord Chamberlain waits until most of the guests have found their positions, then speaks up in a raised voice "Lord and Ladies, please stand for his Majesty, by the Grace of Torm, King of this Realm, Alwyn Nede of Laskea and her Majesty, by the Grace of Torm and Sehanine Moonbow, Queen of this Realm, Yevidri Aerilaya of Laskea and Lady of the Moon to the Kingdom of Aennamar." The King and Queen enter the room with their hands joined, smiling at the guests as they walk. The group immediately recognizes that the Queen is roughly 7-months pregnant. Behind the Queen, a Half-elf female follows at a respectable distance. The King and Queen take their positions at the head of the table and sit, and the other guests all follow suit. The young female half-elf walks to the other end of the table and sits beside Halfaelor Simms and Levkaria. Once everyone is seated, the wait staff emerge from the side room and begin dinner service, bringing it several covered trays of food for each guest. Behind the King, both the Cupbearer and the Chamberlain stand ready to assist the Royal Family if need be.
As soon as the King and Queen sit down, Urmmir Sundergrass begins chatting Kasek up by making small talk and asking about where he's from and his background. Kasek reveals that he's from Mossband, and Urmmir immediately states that it's a piece-of-shit town. Kasek agrees with him, seemingly not offended by the remark. Urmmir asks what he's doing in Sestatrea, and Kasek informs him that he's a hunter by trade. Urmmir respects that profession, and suggests he travel to Breghdel in the Territory of Estrya as they're having problems clearing out the north woods and are in search of adventurers to help. Urmmir admits that he's not really interested in Breghdel as they also have to deal with Druids, and Kasek says "Say no more about that!" Urmmir looks at him and says "I like you, here..." and pours him a glass of alcohol from his own personal stash. Urmmir and Kasek begin to make small talk about brewing, with Kasek telling him he wants to establish the Bonebrewer name in this area. Urmmir muses a moment, attempting to place the surname Bonebrewer, but is unable. They continue to talk, and Kasek gets the feeling Urmmir is somewhat 'buddying-up' to Kasek, and Kasek just goes along with it.
Ivoire de Montauban turns and asks Ceona where she's from, and Ceona responds that she's from Verchei. Ivoire is impressed, and Ceona states she came the 'long' way around. Ivoire is curious if there is another way, and Ceona tells her in the summer, one could travel westward across the northern reach of the Abian continent. Ceona begins to tell her all about Verchei and the people, as well as with their pirate problem. Ivoire is genuinely interested in Ceona's plight, and states that the followers of Torm would certainly be interested in helping, but given the logistics because of the location of Verchei, it would be quite difficult to be able to render any substantial aid. Ceona tells her that she's interested in forming a more long-lasting bond or alliance, such as sister-cities or the like -- a mutual defensive alliance as it were. Ivoire asks how Ceona proposes to form this connection, and Ceona mentions either by sea or land. Ivoire informs her that her best bet would be to secure friendship with the Dwarvish Kingdoms and with the Halfling Kingdom. Ceona makes mental notes and her conversation with Ivoire moves more towards small talk.
Morrice leans in to Celindriel and tells her that if she needs help in getting information on anyone at the table, he's more than happy to assist. Celindriel informs Morrice that she has a letter addressed to the Queen, and she's been instructed to deliver it into her hands only. Morrice nods and tells her that he could certainly arrange a private meeting with her later after the dinner.

The Party Hears the Guests' Problems (Audio 02:59:45)

Feadog is sitting beside the human female Tosra Korsk who is keeping to herself and interested more in listening to the other conversations at the table. Feadog spends his time also remaining quiet and listening to everyone else's conversations as well. The dinner begins to wind down, and everyone is left enjoying a light dessert and drinks as the various individuals begin talking about the various goings-on in the world. Firen Korsk begins talking to Morrice Barrett over being concerned about some troubles he's heard going on in Braedon involving a turf war between to rival groups, as well as some recent murders occurring in Ula'ree. He's also concerned that his shipments of food and crops are being waylaid and intercepted by brigands while traveling throughout Laskea. Morrice offers him platitudes and tries to calm his concerns. Kasek speaks up, asking if Firen is talking about shipments being intercepted. Firen repeats himself that yes, his shipments are disappearing and it's causing him financial discomfort. Kasek asks if it is because of the turf battles going on in Braedon or something else. Firen reveals that his caravans are simply not arriving at their intended destinations, and he assumes they're being intercepted on the roads while enroute. Firen also mentions that he's had to close several businesses as of late, and people are spreading rumors that Firen is closing them on purpose -- which of course is not true. Both Kasek and Celindriel attempt an insight check, but are unable to detect anything out of sorts. Kasek asks which towns is it that these caravans are not arriving into, and Firen tells Kasek he's lost shipments from almost every town including Sestatrea. He admits that if things don't get better soon, he will have to close his businesses entirely. Celindriel asks Firen if he's tried varying his schedule with the shipments, and Firen informs her that he's tried but it's difficult to vary schedules on caravans that run three times a day. Celindriel nods, and the conversation peters out.
Padion Cûnor listens to Firen's conversation and then speaks to Morrice Barrett after Firen ends and states that they too have been having trouble as of late. He states that he's heard from caravans traveling between Laskea and Estia that they've spotted a Green Dragon flying over the roads and around the Feyborn Mountains, as well as some spotting Drow near the base of the Shaded Basin. Padion states that no caravans have been lost yet, but people are beginning to become frightened and are unwilling to travel the roads between Estia, Daemarrel and Ula'ree. Morrice begins to also attempt to reassure him that they're doing everything in their power to resolve some of these issues, but Padion begins to grow agitated. Queen Yevidri then speaks to Padion in Elvish saying "Eller naa ner ie' moota sinome than mani naa beien karne", which Celindriel and Feadog both recognize as translating to "Calm yourself. There is more at work here than what is being made known. Patience." Padion calms down, nods to the Queen and apologizes.
Urmmir, who is leaning on Kasek, asks Kasek what the hell the Elves are talking about, to which Kasek merely responds "Just a bunch of Elf nonsense". Urmmir speaks up and asks if everyone is talking about stuff getting stolen. Morrice, somewhat exasperated, says "Yes, Urmmir". Urmmir tells everyone that his ore caravans are also being sacked, and he's missing shipments as well. Urmmir also states that this market is starting to become nonviable. Kasek gets worked up by Urmmir and feeds into Urmmir's excitement -- possibly the booze talking. Morrice, again, begins to offer platitudes and reassurance. The King begins taking note of everyone talking about the same thing and begins speaking quietly with Barriltar Bhandraddon and Jellrich Crouse. Halfaelor Simms speaks up from the far end of the table and says "Y'know, I've been having problems too!". Morrice looks extremely exasperated at this point, but Halfaelor continues stating his shipments of Hops and Barley via ship sailing around the southern part of Abios and headed north to Sestatrea have been getting raided. The group looks at each other and realize they have rectified that situation by dealing with the crew of the Waterwitch. Ceona speaks up and tells Halfaelor about their adventures in Hirane, and as a result of dealing with Lord Andel Caldel, Halfaelor's shipments should no longer be a problem. Both Morrice and Barriltar confer with one another a moment, and speak quietly with the King. After a moment, Morrice nods his head in agreement with Ceona's statement. Halfaelor looks a little puzzled, but says "All right, I guess we'll just have to wait and see, then, if the problem is fixed or not". Ceona also tells him he can head to Hirane, where some of his shipment resides in a Warehouse that Berny Page is watching over. Halfaelor nods at the statement and then proceeds to engage in conversation with Levkaria sitting beside him.
Celindriel begins to feel a sensation like she's being watched, and notices Tosra Korsk watching her, but when Celindriel turns her attention to her, Tosra tries her best not to be noticeable about it. Celindriel squints her eyes and tries to remain alert to her when Molara Starspell engages Celindriel in conversation. She says "It's so nice to see a Moon Elf here at court. At the Lady's College in Daemarrel, we're starting to see a lot more Moon Elves enroll in studies. It's nice to see more of your people getting out into the world, and we're looking forward to seeing more." Celindriel states that Moon Elves getting out into the world seems to be in the best interests of her people. Molara inquires if many Moon Elves are spellcasters naturally, or worshipers of Mystra, and Celindriel says that though she herself doesn't have any such abilities, there are a number of her brethren that engage in the magical arts. Molara asks what schools of magic they tend to study, and Celindriel answers Illusion just by nature of being worshipers of Sehanine Moonbow. Molara then asks if it's normal for Moon Elves to study Necromancy, and Celindriel is somewhat appalled and adamantly states that it is not normal. Molara muses on that a moment, and then continues by saying that it's not something she's interested in and frankly it makes her a bit uncomfortable -- but to each their own. Molara then becomes engaged in conversation with Elmorn Renan.

Intelligence Report (Audio 03:17:22)

At this time, the King speaks up and asks Morrice if he has any news from Tiradryn or from Aredar. Morrice clears his throat, and conversations around the table die down as he begins. Morrice briefs the members at the table of the recent events involving an army loyal to Hoar, having previously merged with an army of mercenaries from Aredar, have now arrived in the town of Northsilver in northern Aredar where their numbers have been bolstered by Garagos fighters. He indicates, according to intelligence sources, that the combined armies are preparing to march en masse to the west, possibly planning an invasion of Tiradryn. This is speculation at this time as there are other developments which may suggest the army is amassing for a different purpose. Intelligence also reports that the Pirate forces of The Savage Isles are assembling a massive fleet of ships after having been funded by an unknown player within the region -- but it is highly probable it is through the Zhentarim. The fleet is nearing completion, and preparations appear to be underway to prepare the fleet to sail. Where they will be going is unclear, but there is a possibility the fleet could be used to transport the amassed army in Northsilver. Northsilver is incapable of handling the number of ships or the logistics of loading a military force onto said ships, but Drova to the west of Northsilver would certainly be capable. The possibility of the army invading both Tiradryn and Lyetia needs to be considered.
Kasek asks if either of those nations are allied with Laskea. Morrice reveals that Tiradryn and Lyetia are seen as friends, but no formal alliance is in place. They are friends because they hold similar values as Laskea. The nation of Aredar, however, is not considered friendly, and Laskea has no current agreement with them, nor is Laskea seeking any relationship with them.
