"An industrial, mining, logging or other production settlement" - SC2021 Sponsored Prompt

This year, I sponsored a prompt for SC. The prompt was "Describe an industrial, mining, logging or other production settlement". To do that, I checked every article that was submitted as long as it was available and followed the rules. I kept a list of all the articles I liked and I figured other people may enjoy a selection of articles.
I have categorized them according to what sort of "thing" the settlement produces. I have also followed roughly Kitoypoy's own article on the prompt they sponsored: "A Coming of Age Ceremony".
Enjoy, and don't forget to let the author know if you enjoy their articles. It may be because it is one of the latest prompts, but most submissions had no likes or comments.

Mining

By far the most common type of production settlement that was submitted.

Ores

The writing makes the city spring into life. No magical ores or secret resources, just great writing of a mining city.
Rather than simply having a "miners' guild", the author fashioned the miners' association as a fraternity.

The author buried the lede on this one, but there's a great reason this town does not produce ore anymore.

I particularly enjoyed the description of the areas outside of this mining town.

Undead astronauts working in lunar mines, magic colleges trying to work out how to make living on the moon possible... Really fun stuff.
Definitely the "youngest" and "shortest-lived" town from this whole list. During its brief existence, some people did try to mine ores.

Smart mining town owners know that the mines eventually dry out and plan accordingly. Like the halflings of Uptown did.

An interesting dæmon mining city although the author left some things unexplained.

Gems

Forbidden mining, magic to transport gems... Neat and sound worldbuilding!

Save the life of an Earth spirit. Get wonderful gems in your mine!

This article makes great use of a monster's abilities and goals to write the town's background around it.

Stone

A town where the normal settlement distribution/planning is flipped because of the large heat emanated from the mined stone.

A nice mining town in between two big cities with a kind druid who gifts apples. It's the little details for this one.

Other

People in space need water. Why not mine it from planets covered in ice?

Lumber, ore, and fruits. This town has it all. Including being run by a slave and a bunch of hostage children.

Logging

The second most common type of production settlement were logging towns.

A seasonal logging town with some permanent inhabitants and as of recently, a hell gate.

This article answers the question "how hard will it reforesting Earth once we've fucked it over irreversibly" quite neatly.
An outsider town. A friendly forest spirit. A harrowing addendum... Make sure to read until the end.

How to keep your loggers captive without doing it explicitly? Make your own money and pay your loggers with it.

A sustainable underground mushroom harvesting town.

A neat temporary settlement that no one likes enough to settle in permanently (for some reason).

A real-world place which apparently has been logging wood for a long time.

Animal & non-timber plants

I've classified these articles on where are the things they are harvesting from.

Water

A town on top of a lake, harvesting algae, fish, and most importantly, pearls.
A nice fishing town with access to rainbow squids.

Fish oil for bard's instruments, harvested from a spikey fish. Awesome stuff.

Land

A hunting camp providing for a large city, working as a sort-of intermediary.

A marshland production town focused on hemp for paper production.

Underground

A bunch of goblins growing "porcelain flowers" in complete darkness!

Underground desert mushrooms, with a dwarven prison to run the harvesting.

Crafted items

I loved the small subsection of towns focused on production, rather than primary products.

A place renowned for its cheesecakes, need I say more?
A library snuck into some sort of demi-plane.

I loved the description of the people of this steel town.

This is a lovely town that creates a drug (both medicinal and recreational). It has very well thought out the side-effects of the creation of this product.

A lovely town with expertise in crafting beautiful ornate designs. Also, pay people what their products are worth!

When people in the region want good quality pottery, green clay pottery is the only answer.

A town specialized in dyes, with powerful protectors, and a town design influenced by a past natural disaster.

Others

A city built on dreams that bans all manner of oracles and augurs.

A city built in an area of conflict. What a great spot to harvest dead people for necromancers!

An area at the convergence of planes with few permanent souls in it, but with perpetual visitors.

Articles I did not consider

These articles were either edited after the deadline or their creation date was not reset. I realized after reading and enjoying them, so while I took them out of consideration for the prize, people will likely still enjoy reading them.

While the town is not explained, the locations within are great, with tons of details to help run a ttrpg session within.

Gotta love a town with a giant secret...

To be blessed with pure water and an inexhaustible mine can be a curse. And this article shows it nicely.
