Wasser Fólk

The Water People have a long history of overcoming adversity. When Lake Eternal was colonized, it was populated by disenfranchised groups from all over that had been neglected or oppressed by different authorities. Even once the town was settled, there was the day the earth shook and destroyed most houses. Only the lake was left undisrupted. Cycles later, there was the great fire that ravaged the vegetation around the lake.

Instead of fighting the gods, the Water Folk adapted. Since most of the industry the town is involved with is water-based, the decision was made to modify the boats to accommodate day to day living for full families. Surprisingly enough, the change from land living to water living was easier than anyone thought. The families who decided to remain landlocked, built houses on stilts at the edge of the lake, just in case the earth shook again. For the rest, they were spending so much time on the water already, that a number of families were already living full time on the water.

Every morning, just before the sun rises, a water ballet begins as each boat raises anchor and detaches from the neighbor, to slowly make its way towards work: Fishing, harvesting lake plants or pearl mining. All boats moving in unison without collisions. After a long day of work, the reverse water dance can be observed.

Every decision the Water Folk make is for the betterment of the whole village. No matter if a family is asked to fish for sustenance or farm lake plants for medicine or mine pearls for lucrative trades, every coin and negotiation is divided equally among every familiy.

If you have ever purchased eternal dried fish or herbs to soothe your aches and pains or even splurged to by pearls for yourself or a loved one, you hard earned money made its way to the coffers of the most unassuming village in Steeghan. What could they be doing with all this wealth?

Industry & Trade

Once Lake Eternal started to be explored, the numerous types of algae were dried and made into different powders and teas. Some algae were found to help with digestion issues while other were identified to to help alleviate from fevers.     The undeniable revenue of the Water Folk has to be the pearl cultivation.  Once the pearl is picked, then the industry part begins.  Pearls are gathered and transformed into different jewels: necklaces, earrings, combs, embroidery and more.
