Bennet
Among the wide open marketplace of Bennet one might find herds of goats, stalls filled with seasonal vegetables and rented by the day, bundles of wheat, kegs of fresh ale, and crates of fish caught in the Darsiac Ocean and salted for transport north. Among the small crowd of farmers and fishermen that make their way to market each day one will surprising find few mercenaries, instead seeing only drovers and merchants who carry everything north to Yaty in wide, flat wagons. This is as much because of the garrison of 300 soldiers that call Bennet home when they are not on patrol in the country-side north of the Damsu River, keeping the country free of brigand, monster, and beast, as it is a testament to how far out of the way Bennet really is. With little to fear from the scattered settlements along the frontier of the Kingdoms of Prydith, Bennet is quiet corner of Tarien, content to offer a peaceful country life to any willing to put in the hard work needed to feed the City on the Hill, some 60 leagues to the north.
The village itself is mostly its open market. Without walls, it has a few taverns and inns offering service to those that gather here sell their goods to the merchants. A few blacksmiths, carpenters, and wheelwrights ply their trades on the endless supply of wagons and horse hooves in need of repair, but other than these craftsmen, few live in the village proper. The fortifications - if one can call a horse fence with guards a fortification - that house the villages soldiers and stable their horses sits back from the main market, giving it ample room to expand in the busy fall harvest season. One structure, built of clay bricks and kept immaculately whitewashed, stands out in among the stalls. Home to the local chapter local chapter of the Merchant's Guild, it offers the countless honest merchants excellent rates on loans and insurance, something seemingly unneeded along this placid trade route.
