Trader's Way

Spiraling up from the waterfront to the top of the hill, Trader's Way is the only true street in Yaty. Broad and lined by olive, fig, and almond trees, it is filled with people, animals, and businesses along its entire route, the quality of each steadily improving as one climbs. In the lower district the street circles the old city walls, tightening three times before passing beneath its the arches that mark the old city gate. Connecting these loops are series of alleys and side streets that run in a twisting maze that only the most streetwise locals truly understand. Here the street is filled with heat of humanity's press as people move through a throng of merchants, sailors, laborers and beasts of burden of all sorts. As the street moves into the middle city the refuse diminishes and the buildings that line it appear sturdier. Alleys continue to race away from the main thoroughfare and street vendors compete with storefronts for the attention of customers. As the street climbs, fewer and fewer stalls sit beneath its shady trees, replaced instead by the cafes that the city's wealthy frequent during the heat of the day. Refuse and beggars dwindle as the street continues to to climb until it arrives, spotless, at the Forum.
