Mousetrap
Located just up the hill from the harbor, the Mousetrap is a simple inn and tavern catering to visitors in Yaty looking for something a bit more upscale that the dockside dives without emptying their purse. As one of the first reputable inns one might pass when entering the city, it makes the most of Yaty’s aqueducts, boasting running water in every room on a large sign above the huge bay windows on the streetside of the building. Similar advertisements can be found tacked to walls throughout the lower city.
The narrow but deep inn has three stories with the main floor occupied by a large common room filled with round tables. It is clean and generally smells of baking bread, a key component in the Mousetrap’s signature dish – cheese curds melted over the top of toasted bread. The second and third floor are home to a dozen or so small but tidy rooms, each boasting a small basin and faucet that does indeed offer running water.
In general, the crowd is subdued and tends to be older, men and woman well past the exuberances of youth. Local laborers frequent its common room in the evenings for meals and a pint or two of ale. They mingle with mercenaries, porters, and other travelers that might have taken reasonable room.
