Bennet Merchants' Guild Chapter
Why on Tarien the Merchant's Guild keeps a chapterhouse in the tiny village of Bennet has many a caravanner scratching their beards in wonder. Indeed, the chapterhouse is also a spotless two story, whitewashed building located directly in the center of the open market that Bennett calls its "town square". Established over fifty years ago by an enterprising Nerrid named Gustaff Samualsonsonsonson, the chapter began by financing local entrepreneurs that sought purchase wagons and mules to transport goods north to Yaty. Indeed, such ventures were difficult to fund before Gustaff's arrival for local farmers and fishermen demanded payment up front for all of their goods, meaning that despite the safe route to Yaty and its almost guaranteed market, they were forced to tie up substantial gold in inventory. For a minor fee, however, Gustoff allows almost anyone to jump into the business and has flooded the route north with small wagons, their owners plodding their way to a mediocre existence along the well worn path between Bennet and the City on the Hill. Gustoff further ensures the flow of income into the local chapterhouse by selling insurance against the unlikely event of disaster along the road. While many merchants eschew such protections, the Nerrid insists on the purchase of a policy for any shipment the Chapter underwrites.
