Kyayn Forests

Tucked between the Wind Wall Mountains and the Darsiac Ocean on the western coast of the Prydith Peninsula, the Kyayn Forests run for more than fifty leagues, varying in density from lone sycamores to loose stands of oak and thickets flush with cedars, alders, and firs. Tall grasses and wildflower meadows fill any space left open by the trees with the occasional willow lined marsh in low lying areas, especially along the River Narmouth. Its location - far south of Yaty and north of Mathe on what is often considered the frontier of Human civilization means that the forest sees little traffic. There are no roads that cut through its meadows or beneath its boughs and the only real settlement is Danbury, a small village along the river that mostly keeps to itself and lives off the land.

As the forest offers a range of habitats, its non-human residents draw from a wide range across the natural world. Creatures range in size from massive antlered elk and foul tempered buffalo to the smallest of mice and voles. Deer, wild boar, and at higher elevations sheep take advantage of the vegetative buffet while wolves, leopards, and tigers can all be found dining upon them. Smaller predators include a variety of weasels and racoons which are so plentiful that trapping them for fur has become one of the main sources of income in Danbury.

There are also rumors that in the thickest parts of the forest - particularly in the foothills of the Mountains where its slopes add to the shade offered by the tallest trees - that unnatural creatures of shadow and darkness dwell. With little civilized exploration or research in the area, these may just be rumors started by locals who enjoy the solitude of their forest home as a means of discouraging visitors.
