Theridon Forests
With growth fueled by mists and rains that blow in from the Darsiac Ocean, the Theridon Forests are home to magnificent hardwoods of oak and elm; maple and black walnut. Even with the seemingly voracious appetites of Yatian shipwrights, who log the forests for the tallest and straightest trees as masts for schooners and have thinned the eastern edges, the central and western parts of the forest remain thick with trees. In the oldest parts of the forest, toward the north and west, the canopy is so dense that the forest floor - devoid of other plant life, remains dark even at high noon.
Within the forests a number of creatures common the western side of the Wind Wall Mountains on the Prydith Peninsula can be found including mighty elk, fleet deer, and reclusive red foxes. Black bears, with strange white V's on their bellies enjoy the long spring and summer months to grow fat on the nuts and berries produced by the forest. Leopards prowl the trees, feasting on the troops of short-tailed monkeys that move in large groups, hooting and howling throughout the day. Magnificent birds, their green and blue feathers broader than a man's arm span, parade beneath the trees, feasting on grubs and worms.
Few have travelled too deep into the forest as its fringes have provided plenty of bounty to local farmers and loggers. Those that have find it difficult to maintain their bearings in the darkness beneath the massive trees. Some swear that the trees themselves shift subtly, distorting landmarks so that travelers circle back to the forest's edge.
