Raiznith Forests
Filling the southern spoke of the Prydith Peninsula and stretching for 125 leagues are the mysterious Raiznith Forests. With warm summers and temperate winters, the flora and fauna almost never sees a frost yet the constant breezes and influx of storms from the Sea of Storms and the Darsiac Ocean keep it cool and wet. The trees here - oaks, elms, and ash - have responded by achieving massive size, many topping two hundred feet at their crowns. Beneath their dark canopy the forest floor is a mostly open space filled with patches of ferns and a deep layer rotting leavings that gives the forest a distinctly loamy aroma. Troops of monkeys chatter in the trees while strange deer - striped in the front and spotted in the back - live side by side with wild boar and rodents of various sizes along the forest floor. Rumors of terrifying creatures, however, abound. These fantastic tales include bears with the heads of an owl, panthers with tentacles sprouting from their abdomens and frilled lizards the size of horses. They are, of course, mere rumors. Experts from the University of Karradone in the natural world know that these are merely leopards with coats of black instead of spots and black bears with white patches around their eyes. As for the lizards, the brackish waters surrounding the coastline and filled with cypress trees are home to a cousin of the crocodiles so common in Azermathia. The forest, they will assure, is no more dangerous than other on Tarien. Though these same experts would advise, its best not to stray close to the strangely striped Tower of Fire and Ice found deep in the forest. Ancient magics are simply too unpredictable to be safe, even those dormant for centuries.
