Azermathian Subcontinent
Originally, this region Tarien refered to everything south of Isthmus of Geltamar and the Eldorian Sea. As the years passed and the explorations of those like Cedric Kanda mapped the region it became clear that the lands south of the Eldoria extended far beyond anyone's imagination and ought to be defined in smaller pieces. As Humanity began to settle around the region - particularly around the Gulf of Azermathia and the Redstone Basin, Azermathia itself took shape. Today scholars bound the region as south and west of the Grey Peaks and extending al l the way to the Salt River in the east and the Darsiac Ocean in the west.
Its southerly latitudes give the region a warmth beyond even that of the southern Prydith Peninsula. Surrounded by water, the air itself feels thick with moisture. The entire region sees plenty of rainfall encouraging coastal forests in the north as well along major rivers. The massive, smoldering peaks of Mount Varkin and the Firmont stand watch over the region, spewing smoke and on one occasion, death. At its center, the red earth of the Clay Steppes serves as a home for great herds of antelope. Further south, below the Jasper Mountains serve as a barrier to the flora and fauna alike. The twisted swamps of Ghana's Archipeligo and jungles of Kandar's Hook largely unlike anything on the northern half of the subcontinent and far less explored.
The past three centuries have seen a great influx of people into the region - primarily north of Jasper's Range. Shipfuls of settlers - mostly human - have settled along the coasts and begun to work their way into the interior. And while the original pioneers often came from Eldoria and Prydith, seeking their fame and fortune, later pilgrims came from all of the Inner Seas. A practical, mercentile work ethic pervades northern settlements in the region, particularly the Citystate of Rathgar and the Hinterlands. Further south, the twin kingdoms of Drakkar and Warwick were both founded as enclaves for Anderi fundamentalists, though religious fervor in both wanes the further one travels from the capital. Indeed, cities like Reizst remind on more of Rathgar and Bendarin is rivaled only by Sarnyan and Katzpütch for its wild reputation.
