Redstone Basin
The Redstone Basin cuts into the western coast of Azermathia, a deep blue expanse of water that thankfully separates the kingdoms of Drakkar and Warwick. With its floor raised several hundred along its narrowest portion, where it opens to the Darsiac Ocean, the Basin traps water like a jug. Here, in the deeper waters, anything cold sinks far to the bottom, pushing warm, nutrient rich water to the surface. The warmth and nutrients combine with the longer days of the southern latitudes to produce a red-green film on the surface of the water - food for dozens of pods of whales that spend their winters in its waters.
Despite its relatively small size, most sailors refuse to traverse the open waters of the Basin, instead hugging its shores in both directions. Many claim that the sea has no bottom here; those that find their deaths beneath its waves sink for eternity. Others claim that it bubbles up from the Abyss, something that scholars and priests from a half-dozen orders have vehemently denied. Regardless of the truth, few disagree that the depths of the Basin are home to a monstrous creature - squid-like and huge - that snacks on ships and that, without Anderi's protection, would surely demolish the puny settlements along its shore.
