Malakar's Funnel

Broad and rocky, the Funnel runs between the towering Grey Peaks to the north and the more humble Jasper Mountains to the south, providing passage between Azermathia the Bertagin Savanah to the east. As such it has seen conflicts between the Kyushu and the people of the Hinterlands; the most famous being led by General Anton Malakar, for whom the pass was named.

If one were to travel the length of the pass, beginning in the southwest, one would find it broad - nearly 30 leagues across. The would be steep - thousands of feet in the first few leagues of travel. Eventually, the pass flattens into a dry, windswept grassland filled with broken boulders and sparsely littered with scraggly trees. As the pass continues to the northeast, it narrows, slowly descending, though never as far down as one began, into the Savannah.

A Rare Tree in Malakar's Funnel

With little water and shelter from the elements, it makes an inhospitable home. Few creatures beyond goats, marmots, hares, and those that feed upon them populate the pass. The mountains climb mercilessly to the north but more gently to the south and it is along this edge where one might encounter the great bears and cats wandering from their home in the Jasper Mountains as entertaining prizes for the brave Kyushu warriors who range this far from home.
