Wright Estate
Situated in central Rathgar, with canals on two sides and a tall, yet artful stone wall on the third, maps do not do the Wright Estate justice. The compound, with two larger buildings made of stone and timber, and a trio of small outbuildings around the water, looks more like a forest camp than a city estate. This effect comes form the spruce and firs that fill the spaces between the rustic looking structures, tightly packed into a stand of trees that looks as natural as one might find in the Grey Peaks. Years ago they even hauled in enough of the red dirt that fills the plains around the city to create a small hill on which sits a tree stand that any hunter would envy. Scattered throughout the small forest are sculptures of local fauna, including one of a huge brown bear, rearing back on its hind legs.
In recent years, as the crunch for space in the city tightens, the Wrights have received plenty of offers for their estate. Given their financial situation - not perilous but certainly not one that places them among the upper echelons of the oligarchy - many have wondered when they will sell. Instead, however, the family has steadfastly held onto their tiny forest a reminder of the wilderness from which Rathgar is carved.
