Wright Family
One of the older families in Rathgar, the Wrights have been a fixture in the city for over a century, the first of there kind arriving with Miles Ravenwood and Theo du Marche. Originally brought along for his skill with the lathe - the first Wright was indeed a wheelwright - the business of shipbuilding soon overtook that of wagon making and the Wrights capitalized. Today they operate a sawmill just outside of town. Powered by the Blue Spruce River, they purchase lumber from a dozen small outfits working in the nearby forests and cut them into planks and masts for ships as well as a timbers for the constant construction that occurs in the city.
Certainly not the wealthiest of the city's the elite, the Wrights were able to purchase their seat on the Rathgar City Council two decades ago and have held it continuously ever since. Mindful that they do not have the might of the greatest fishing or shipping families, they tend to keep their heads down in local politics, avoiding the more public squabbles that have brought down so many. That is not to say the Wrights will not leap at an opportunity to further their cause should one arise. They will simple exercise great caution when doing so.
The family has a small estate inside the city walls, complete with a tiny orchard. Given the land crunch in the city, a number of offers have been made on their land, but to date, all have been refused. The gold that such a sale would bring might easily furnish a fashionable apartment and the Wrights do already have a country house near their mill, but they have always believed it important to maintain a bit of green space in the city, both for society as a whole and as a reminder of their source of income.
