Miles Ravenwood

Founder of Rathgar

Portraits of Miles show a thin man with a dark handlebar mustache. He is described, in Azermathian Memoires, by his peers as "stern and industrious" and even, on one occasion, "joyless". The lack of a smile in any of three remaining portraits, all owned by different, wealthy Rathgaran seem to corroborate these descriptors. Without him, however, it is unlikely that the fledgling settlement would have survived, let alone flourished.

Miles was both the financial backer for the expedition that sought to resettle Rathgar Bay and the great organizer, meticulously accounting for seeds, weapons, plows, salt, and other essentials before they set sail. Once they arrived, it is said that organized the work required to build the first village wells, walls, and other shelters that enabled them to survive in Azermathia. He also used his experiences in the Eldorian fishing industry to architect a facility where fish could be processed and smoked, salted, or pickled to preserve it for the long journey to the markets of the Inner Seas. By breaking these efforts down in distinct steps, he was able to divide the work up amongst groups of workers who could efficiently preserve entire catches in a single afternoon. These measures dramatically increased profits which he scrupulously reinvested in the settlement. By his death, heirless of course, he was able to leave a substantial sum of gold to the city treasury which they used to continue its expansion.
