Delorme Settlement in Tarien | World Anvil

Delorme

Ostensibly part of the Citystate of Rathgar, as it was included in the treaty between Eldoria and Yaty that established it as a free territory, no one in Delorme would consider themselves Rathgaran. Few even consider themselves a member of the walled enclosure that looks more like a frontier fort than a village. With sharpened, vertical timbers surrounding it, the scattered buildings in the village are mostly log cabins haphazardly erected between the wall and the picturesque Delorme Bay upon the which the settlement rests. Here, far from any civilization but close the Goblin tribes of the Grey Peaks, the independent minded Delormans speak little of their scattered pasts, focusing instead upon trying to eek out an existence either trapping furs and hunting deer in the surrounding forests or fishing in the rocky and coral-strewn bay. Outsiders are always obvious and generally unwelcome in this close knit community. "They looked at me through narrow eyes, standing off as if we had the Great Plague" one captain noted after rowing across the treacherous bay to come ashore. This warm welcome and reticence to talk about their past has led many to believe that Delorme harbors a dark secret - perhaps as a cult of Zardula or haven for smugglers and thieves.
