Stagburn Dale Village
Originally founded by dwarves, it is now a mostly human settlement in the western mountains of the Commonwealth.
Government
Infrastructure
The Temple of Huvoi maintains the only official structure for worship in the village. Its head cleric is Themis. A few other shrines are scattered around the settlement including those to Balshora, Miklay, Vidur, and Krella.
The Constable oversees the Village Militia, made up of volunteer citizens who do light guard duty and keep the peace.
History
In the Fourth Age, dwarves built a settlement here and lived with fey creatures between two small hills. They planted a hearty oak as a friendship oak between dwarves and fey. Over time, the oak developed a consciousness that communicated with both people.
In the Fifth Age, an elvish kingdom conquered the area and destroyed the settlement. The dwarves fled into the western forests. The grand oak became dormant, frozen in autumnal mourning for the departure of the dwarves.
Humans probably took over the area in the Sixth Age and built the earliest structures here, including a stone wall that fenced in both hills. The first records of a settlement called Stagburn Dale, however, only date to the Seventh Age. It is thought the name came from the stream that bounds the hills and flows into the Wooded River.
In the Ninth Age, a Ward Duke named Vaughn settled here and planned to revitalize the village, turning it into a regional center. He recently died (under mysterious circumstances) and his replacement, the current Ward Duke, has taken residence somewhere else. Quite quickly, Stagburn has lost many of the nobles who moved here to be close to Vaughn.
The recent intensification of the war with Pezzlio has made any citizens with Pezzlian ancestry pariahs. Many have moved away from the town. This and the noble exodus means the village has a lot of empty properties.
