At first not many settlers arrived at the islands. The high tides made settling and trading difficult. The islands started to see a population boom when valuable minerals were found on the islands
The Esse slaves and the Bybort Wars (2500-2754)
The city of Rel started exploiting the minerals by sending its criminals and war prisoners to the island to work in the mines as slaves. The created a socity ruled by a few wealthy Rel elite ruling over large masses of slaves.
The Rel independent islands (2754-2807)
After the fall of Rel, the islands are independent and harbor some animosity towards the newly forming Yenari Empire. However, without a supply of Esse slaves and with the Empire reluctant to trade with the islands. The islands go through a tough time.
The Islands join the Early Yenari Empire (2808-3123)
Darmsel Darmin offers the cities to join the empire. In exchange she would ensure that the Esse prisoners and slaves continue to come to the islands. Most of the cities join very quickly. The cities are part of the empire, but are fairly independent and don't involve themselves in the politics of the empire. They remained very neutral during the wars of the 5 emeperos.
In 3000 the islands suffer a series of crushing slave revolts. Eventually, this leads to the empero of barsaminism to declare that Esse slaves to be imoral and the Empire ends the practice. This creates huge tension with the upper class on the islands that rely on the slaves.

The jail the leader is held in is raided and the leader escapes, the movement comes back with a vengeance (4511-4517)
