The Majaran Empire

This is a very new Empire primary created by the military and political successes of Empress Atheneis Majara. The Empire currently combines three Kingdoms: Atheneis' original domain the Faroo, the Kingdom of Karmis and the Kingdom of Zareb. The capital of the Kingdom is Landor, but it economic center is the seaport city of Karmis.

Military

Troops the Majaran Empire The Royal Guards – A professional fighting force of over two hundred warriors commanded by Lady Klonna Thuskos. The largest contingent of the Guard is the Empress’ Bodyguard, a mixed company of over one hundred foot and horse. Each of the Empress’ four spouses have their own contingent of twenty mounted warriors. Princesses Tonya, Malana and Atheneis Shandie all have their contingents of a dozen horse guards each. Other members of the Royal Family draw from the Empress’ guard as needed. Guard members wear azure surcoats and silver plate or mail armor. The members of the Queens’ or Princesses’ guards additionally wear the badge of their liege. The Green Troop – A group of twenty horse archers assigned to protect the Royal Coven in battle. They wear green surcoats over mail and use composite bows as their primary weapons. They carry longswords and daggers for close combat. They wear open faced helmets with a nose guard and lobster back. The troop acts as the guard at Morja Annannara. Heavy Squadrons – These are traditionally equipped heavy cavalry raised from the nobility of the Faroo and Karmis. Each squadron consists of approximately 150 soldiers. These highly trained horse soldiers wear plate armor. Their weapons include lances, battle axes, maces and swords. They ride heavy warhorses equipped with protective barding. The army has five heavy squadrons. Medium Squadrons – These are units of lancers armed with lances and sabers. They wear three quarters plate and carry large shields. Their horses are protected by leather barding. Their armor is silver and their helmets are topped by horsehair crests. The army had 15 of these squadrons. Light Squadrons – These are units of light cavalry that fight primarily with the bow and the sabre. They wear studded leather armor, carry round shields and open faced helmets with a nose guard and lobster back. These units will work as both scouts and horse archers. This force totals some 20 squadrons. The Army of the Northern Frontier – This force typically consists of 10-20 companies of infantry and cavalry that police the northern frontier. Troops are frequently rotated in and out of this force as it is seen as a good way for them to gain experience in an environment where low-level combat is frequent. It is just as much a recognition that frontier duty is unpleasant so no one should remain their too long. The army of the northern frontier is posted in frontier settlements and fortified encampments. The encampments are built on a standard formula with a protective ditch, a dirt rampart protected by stakes with a wooden stockade topping it. The stockade will have fighting platforms running its length with larger platforms for artillery weapons at the corners and two to four gates flanked by wooden blockhouses. Companies of the Royal Garrison Infantry – These are large mixed companies of crossbowmen and heavy foot usually numbering about 200 troops. These units often have a large share of older soldiers who are nearing retirement or for other reasons are not suitable for the rigors of field service. Large cities typically have several companies of garrison infantry while important towns will be protected by a single company. Companies of Heavy Foot – These companies typically consist of 200 men including 160 spearmen and 40 heavy crossbow men. The spearmen carry 12’ spears, large kite shields, a short sword and a dagger. They typically have a helmet with a lobster back and nose guard. They wear breast plates with chain mail skirts and leg guards over high sturdy boots. The crossbowmen carry a crossbow, a quiver of 20 bolts, short sword and a dagger. For armor they wear a long coat of studded leather armor and the same helmets as the spearmen. Companies of Medium Foot – These soldiers wear chain main coats, the same helmets as the heavies and medium shields. They are armed with battle axes and broad swords. Companies of Light Foot – These soldiers wear studded leather armor, leather helmets, carry long swords and daggers. They are armed with short bows and typically carry a quiver of 20 arrows. Royal Companies of Marines –These are four companies of professional marines based at Karmis and Port Kofar. They are light infantry using a variety of weapons, generally it is the individual soldier’s choice. Short swords, axes, spears, scimitars, crossbows and short bows are the favored weapons.

Imperial Parliament filled by a mix of imperial appointees, local notables and nobility the parliament both advises the Empress and legislates. The Empress however retains a veto over any law the Parliament might pass. The Parliament typically meets one a year for a month, although session can be extended and additional sessions can be called by the Empress.
