Barony of Korliss

Barony of Korliss - A small independent barony that serves as a buffer state on Karmis’ western border. It consists of the baronial seat (the fortified town of Korliss), and five smaller villages. Unusually the barony is ruled by a Danite family, the Girana. Baroness Arlanna Girana is the ruler of this small domain. Arlanna and most of her extended family are trained as sorcerers and their magical power has served as a considerable deterrent against the neighbors. Korliss is located on a grassy plain with occasional small woods. It is prime country for raising horses and cattle.

Demography and Population

The Barony's overall population is 14,000 with a large Danite minority. Some 2,000 of the areas inhabitants are Danite with a perhaps another 1,000 being Northron Corgerians. The remainder of the population is made up of Northron humans.

Territories

The Barony controls perhaps 200 square miles of land on the Karmin plain centered around the town of Korliss. Most of the Barony is gently rolling farmland and pasture.

Military

The Barony has a small military force of perhaps 250 troops, of whom 100 are mounted troops. Another three hundred trained militia can be mobilized to supplement the regular forces. The Barony's true military power comes from the numerous spell-casters in the ruling family. The ruling family can easily put thirty sorcerers into the field and in a pinch might be able to come up with a few more. If a major threat is anticipated the Barony will hire mercenary troops to supplement its small army.

Agriculture & Industry

The Barony's agricultural hinterland is known for breeding quality horses and cattle. Grain and extensive orchards cover much of the available land. The Baronial seat, Korliss is a center for glass making, jewelry and ceramic production.
