Kingdom of Wallen

This is a large feudal kingdom consisting of some 32 baronies. The Kingdom reaches into the Great North Wood at it most northerly extent, but it writ does not reach all the way to the northern Ocean. Its eastern boundary is marked by several independent border states that separate it from the Kingdom of Karmis. The Kingdom of Merras sits along the northwestern boundary of the Kingdom and Zareb sits to its south. The Kingdom is ruled by King Torrand kar Gilles. The King’s power is mainly based on the large central Barony of Gilles which his family has ruled for five centuries. Torrand has a large family and works to keep his position secure by marrying his numerous sons and daughter into the households of other Barons. Much of Wallen consists of rich farm lands worked by an overtaxed and generally downtrodden peasantry.

Structure

Wallen is a feudal kingdom made of 32 baronies of widely varying size. The barons have significant control over the administration of justice and taxation. The King has royal army of roughly 1,000 troops as will as the King's own feudal troops. Most military force is provided by barons, each of whom can field nights, men-at-arms and peasant levies.

Demography and Population

Wallen has a population of roughly 3 million, the majority of whom are human peasants living in rural villages. The nobility is a mixture of Corgerians and Northron Humans. The cities have larger minorities of Corgerians and much smaller communities of Danites.

Territories

The Kingdom primarily covers the Wallen Plain, the Bottom Lands of Pleska and portions of the Great North Wood.

Military

The King maintains a royal retinue of roughly 1,200 warriors. If he calls his barons to service he can raise several tens of thousands of troops. The major cities and towns of Wallen maintain professional watch companies of varying sizes. Most Barons keep a few dozen men under arms but can levy additional troops fairly quickly.

Agriculture & Industry

The plains of Wallen produce large amounts of grains. Animal husbandry supports considerable herds of sheep, cattle and swine. The feudal nobility demands considerable numbers of warhorses .
