Kingdom of Karmis
This Kingdom grew up along the River Karm and spread across the productive agricultural lands of the Karmin Plain. The Kingdom's greatest population center is the city of Karmis, but a number of significant cities and towns are sperad along the length of the River Valley. The Kingdom's ruling family was overthrown by the Majaran's after allowing a Zalarite invasion of the Faroo through its territory. Several Karmin Barons and their troops joined the ill-fated invasion which collapsed at the Battle of the Arendar Pass. Karmis then became one of the domains of the Majaran Empire with Atheneis Majara as Empress and Queen Floret Majara-Salis being declared Queen of Karmis. Some ten Karmin Barons who had joined the invasion were exiled with their lands being redistributed to Peasant freeholders, a move that one the new Empress the loyalty the common people and scared the remaining nobles into line.
Military
The Kingdom of Karmis no longer had a formal military and its defense is the responsibility of the Imperial Army with the assistance of the Alyite Order and the Sect of Khanna. The remaining feudal lords are allowed to maintain an armed retinue of up to 50 knights, men-at-arms and guards. Freeholders provide a minmum of one family member for militia service with exemptions granted for those with no family members of suitable age or physical condition for service. Subsidies are paid for militia members that maintain a horse suitable for military service and serve in the militia cavalry.
Religion
The sect of Khanna domiantes the countryside of the Kingdom while a variety of religions are covertly and overtly practiced in the Kingdom's cities and towns. A number of religious organizations are proscribed within the Kingdom including the Zalarite Sisterhood, the Asmoreans and the Cult of Salya. The Sisterhood of Alya, the Gravewardens, Temple of Meleth and several other groups enjoy official backing.
Foreign Relations
The Kingdom is one of the regions of the Majaran Empire, which conducts all foreign policy on behalf of the Kingdom.
Agriculture & Industry
The Karmin Plain provides a highly suitable environment for the farming of grains and fruits. Cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry are all widely raised. Fishing is a major occupation along the Coast of the Windy Sea and the River Karm. In the region along the edges of the Forest of Tarlot and the Great North Wood forestry is widely practiced. Ship/boat building is a major occupation along the Coast of the Windy Sea and the Karm River Valley. Wool, and flax are the primary materials used for textiles in Karmis.
Trade & Transport
The Windy and the highly navigable River Karm are the main routes for bulk cargos, particularly the outbound trade in grain, lumber, and woolen cloth. Well maintained trade roads connect the major cities and towns and lead to the neighboring Kingdoms.
