I'm going to start off by saying I was writing names down as we went, so I am sorry for any spelling errors. Please correct me as we go and I can update the journal article. Also, any insight into characters met and small asides are done by Kepharel. If something is said that may insult or disparage, I want to make sure it is done as Keph and not as me and they are thoughts taken in the moment.
Logistics:
Map in barracks owned by the traveler's guild
We can come and sketch regions of interest for map generation. This could help with future work.
Regions that are unexplored can be updated by the party if they have a cartographer's kit.
Fiddletown Explorer's Guild:
20-22 People
2-4 People per room with bunks and chests for objects
Armory on ground floor
Kitchen but no cook
Though food is commonly made by Georg (Half-Orc)
Everyone described themselves, and we all got to meet each other. I will skip that, as it was done in character.
Sprig was told to bathe, which wasn't a bad idea. I try to not bring it up often, but she really really smelled this morning. While she was gone I cleaned her armor. I hope that didn't anger her.
We met Giella? (Tiefling) at the barracks who was pretty tired of Jean's shit.
Formikus- Older elf (well over 100 years old), grouchy and a hard-ass. He negotiates the contracts for the guild. He was once one of the original members to help clear some of the rain forest. Has been in Fiddletown for over 10 years, because of that he has seen a lot of death and it is a good chance that his harsh tone is because he doesn't want to get close and lose allies. Also we learned he HATES renegotiation. So it appears his word is bond, which is great for us because it is someone we can trust and it appears his has best interest of the guild in mind. We report all information to him, and there does not seem to be a reason to distrust him.
Formikus gave us a contract that described as finding and saving Kygen's daughter Persephone. Kygen and his daughter were at a campsite, Seph was out looking for wood and disappeared. The fear was that merfolk may have taken her by force which could lead to potential political issues. At the time, it felt like we were supposed to downplay this fact.
After finishing breakfast we left the guild barracks and went to find Kygen.
We found him in town. He is a middle age drow and hunter of exotic game. Sprig has hunted with him in the past. We spoke with Kygen about the contract and he shared more detail of where they set up camp. Kygen provided Sprig with a blanket owned by Seph. Our goal was to secure her, hopefully alive, if not alive bring back her body. (55 gold contract)
We left the city heading north. Outside the city we met a Shifter named Frang.
Frang- Shifter who works for the Baron. Has almost a leopard look to him and is covered in fur and leather armor. Was really looking to keep any merfolk related details a secret. It appears that there is some kind of political relationship that we are not privy to, and it seems as if the baron does not want that relationship to be damaged within the city. Basically, if people began to mistrust the merfolk that could cause issues with trading and other economic and political strategy. I wonder what a merfolk government looks like? How do they organize it? Interesting, I will have to find documents related to this information.
Nevertheless, we continued on for a day, sleeping at night. It is nice to travel with elves, they make for great sentries at night. I am used to having to take a watch, but I get an entire night sleep without issue. I was surprised to not hear any divine voice out in the wilderness. Sometimes she is quite in town, but I almost always hear her while out on a mission. Though, I have to say, it was great to have an unimpaired sleep.
We continued on to the campsite and found tracks near the river. Crestin, Franklin, Ostra, and Sprig investigated the area and learned more. I hung back with Jean as we kept watch. The team found that merfolk group was using the stream as a road and that Seph followed a small merfolk boy. These tracks went on for hours as we cautiously followed the stream. Eventually, the tracks left the stream and went towards a downed large branch. Again, the team investigated the area and found what appeared to be Kruthik tracks and a large amount of blood. There must have been a fight that led to the merfolk and Seph being taken back to the kruthiks' layer. We followed the tracks to the burrowed out cave.
Once in the cave, Sprig was able to follow Seph's sent using the blanket. We walked for a couple minutes until the group was ambushed by oozes.
COMBAT!
One of the oozes had Seph inside of it. It also appeared that it was slowly eating her. Good news, she wasn't dead, bad news she was losing her leg. Thank god it started leg first instead of head first. I guess, a bit of luck for us.
Jean shot a fucking hole in it right off the bat. God damn that gun was loud in the cave, I think my ears are still ringing.
Ostra has a double bladed weapon and cleaved into the large ooze. This caused it to split into two. Annoying... this must not be a normal ooze.
Sprig did her wildshape stuff and chewed on the ooze. I wonder if the ooze tastes like acid jelly. Are the flavored? I'll have to ask Sprig.
I tried my frostbite. Though it doesn't seem to damage this ooze as much as I thought it would. Damn! Must have resistance.
Crestin was able to pull Seph out of the ooze, but there was a lot of damage done to her. She was alive, but in rough shape.
The 1/2 ooze hit Franklin really... really hard. With a lot of acid damage. He dropped instantly, and I doubt anyone beside Crestin would have survived that blow.
The second ooze fell down from above. Which shows that we suck at tracking these things. If we come back we need to make sure we know where they hide, because they can really catch us off guard.
Jean stepped in between this new ooze and me, which was nice. I will have to thank Jean later.
Jean then fired into the ooze and destroyed it in a single turn. Which was amazing. Jean also healed Franklin. Got him back on his feet. I didn't realize Jean was some kind of cleric. Combat really teaches you a lot about people.
Ostra hit the ooze and it split the 1/2 into 1/4.
Sprig bit one of the 1/4 ooze really hard.
I got to show off a little and use two spells in a single turn, the first was mind sliver, but it didn't do much. The second was magic missile. I put a little more magic sauce into the spell and got a 4th missile fired off. Did alright damage.
Crestin stabbed the 1/4 ooze with his javelin.
Franklin summoned his spiritual weapon, which was pretty cool to watch. This is the first time I've actually seen a man of the cloth in combat, it was certainly entertaining.
The 1/4 ooze came after Jean and hit her.
Jean Cast a spell, then tried to get away from the ooze and went down. I completely forgot I am able to heal. Maybe if her voice would have came to me the night before, I would have remembered!!!!
Ostra stabbed the ooze hitting both 1/2 and 1/4 size. Killing both.
Ostra stabilized Jean.
Sprig gave jean some good berries to revive.
I would have to imagine at this point we had made a lot of noise. It is tough in the moment to realize how loud we all were, but I imagine that our commotion was attracting the Kruthiks. We needed to get out. As we attempted to leave Franklin tried to stop us. I realize his heart is in the right place, but we had to make sure Seph was going to get out alive. That was our contract and we need to do our damnedest to fulfill it. I can't imagine having to explain to Kygen that his daughter died because we wanted to act like heroes. Or even worse, tell Formikus that we didn't stop when we could have and regrouped.
With that knowledge, and at what I thought was best for the group. I cast suggestion on Franklin telling him to follow me and to not speak for the day. I don't like doing that to the party, but I didn't see a way at the time around it.
We left the cave. Hid outside as a couple adult Kruthiks came out. I am really glad now we didn't fight them. Some in the party were a bit hurt.
We traveled until nightfall and made camp. From there Sprig healed Seph (5 hp). Seph awoke in major pain. Franklin cast two spells healing Seph more (7 and 11 hp). This helped reduce the pain.
We were reminded of a temple in Fiddletown that had a healer who could bring back Seph's leg for free.
The group brought Seph back to the town and straight to the healer.
Kygen spotted us and followed us into the temple. I rather dislike temples. The idea that other mortals get to have a choice in who they serve eats at my insides. What the place represents is an abomination to me. I had to leave, as staying any longer would give me an ulcer.
We did meet a gnome healer name Judacus?
Judacus restored Seph's leg.
Most of the Party got high.
Kygen came out and thanked everyone. Seph was also thankful.
Sprig gave back the blanket.
We went back to the guild barrack and spoke with Formikus. We told him the truth, even though people in the party didn't want to for some reason. Which seemed odd. Why would we lie to the person that at times holds our fates?
We got our gold. (55 gp).
After that the group went out and got drinks at ( I forgot to write the tavern down)...
