Janney

Written by Esau Dm

Janney is a reasonable sized coastal town of two halves, on the Bold Strait, located on the Northern Isle of Esau.
As it rains frequently in Janney so nicknamed "Rainy Janney".

One half, the West side, holds the pit entrance to the Northern Silver Mine located on the North-East side of the town. They employ miners and related professions. While the other half, the east side, is financed by the Scholars Assembly and the Church of Ioun, who jointly own the library - The Sanctorium which is located on the East side of the town.

There is plenty of fish, fighting, mining, reading, and fresh sea air.

There are pots and pans of mixtures that have already spilt over crowding the desk, with potions that are currently brewing strewn around the floor. Scrolls and scribbled notes are safely up on higher shelves.
There will be little hope to walk through the shop without stepping in something that looks sticky or smells vile.
If you stand looking in, you hear the distinct sound of "welcome! Come on in!" - there is a white Dragonborn behind the shop counter currently pouring ingredients into a tube.

Industry & Trade

The town was first built in 1009AG, to the south-east pit of the Northern Silver Mine - coal, silver and more recently diamonds, are found by the miners.

In 1026AG, the Impressive library of The Sanctorium in the East side of the town, was built eighteen years after the mine pit, by the Church of Ioun along with the Scholars Assembly. It has grown in granduar and size over the decades - it is a major drawcard for scholars and mages.

History

1009AG: the town was first built.

1026AG: construction of The Sanctorium started. It was financed by the Church of Ioun. It was completed within only eight months - Janney grew larger around it.

1068AG: A large band of pirates arrived on five ships. They were seen by a small boy who was not where he was meant to be. Within an hour, the townsfolk rallied. The pirates were fought off by a small number of local militia and the dozens of fishermen of Janney. They managed to hold back the pirate raid from the Fish Docks.

1199AG: A horrendous fire in the East side of Janney was caused by an army of Orcs and Bugbears, who sailed from somewhere on Fogi Island, landing in Janney. The whole town was ramsacked and set on fire.
In The Sanctorium, only those tomes and scrolls protected by various Types of Magic remained undamaged. Most of the rest of the tomes, books and scrolls were never recovered. The Scholars Assembly joined with the Church of Ioun to finace the rebuilding. The Librarians are known to travel all across the known parts of Esau collecting tomes, books and scrolls.
