Southern Desert

The Southern Desert is the eastern part and largest region of the great desert which covers much of the central and southern Dragonían continent. It borders the Korrei Desert to the west, the Plain of Spirits and Þrihakía to the north, the Tærp Mountains to the south, Nep Peninsula to the southeast and the Narra'tonei Sea to the east.
The name comes from the Þrihaks who live near its northeastern border. The native Minotaurs call it Ööhrú and the Drints on the Nep Peninsula know it as Ragarkíra.

Geography

Sand dunes dominate the landscape, dotted with scattered oases, the one notable exception to this being Ymn Lake at the heart of the region.

Fauna & Flora

Only the hardiest of animals can survive out in the desert, most notably insects large and small, reptiles and rodents. The wildlife along the Narra'tonei Sea to the east is generally similar to that on the shores of Þrihakía or the Plain of Kings to the north, mostly consisting of reptilian Gírks, small flightless birds, crabs and mollusks.
The fauna is more diverse around Ymn Lake, and especially in the lake itself. Among the animals found there are monkeys, Mnóse Tortoises and Umúns, tiny antelopes which the Minotaurs often keep as pets.
Anma Cacti are common around oases, and have been semi-domesticated by semi-nomadic Minotaur tribes for their juice, which is fermented into a drink and traded for other goods from around Ymn Lake. Other plants grown by the Minotaurs are tubers known as Darg Roots, and Gúat. The latter is a flowering plant with very thick stalks, which the Minotaurs harvest for the sweet sap.

Natural Resources

Gold is found in the southern, rockier parts of the desert along with semiprecious stones, both of which are mined by the tribes living around nearby oases and traded for other goods.
