Erra Lake

Þóvarían: Þójek
Erra Lake1 is the largest one in Jarrak Forest and third largest in the western temperate woodlands of Dragonía in general, and the main source of that part of the woods along with Húrr River to the west.
The area around the lake was once inhabited by the ancient Alalaríans, and is the cradle of Útel civilization which now rules Ela'k Forest to the north, but was abandoned nearly 7000 years ago after the population was decimated by a plague.
Today, Erra Lake's shore is home to þrójarrans, bipedal wolves closely related to the Þóvaríans found along the Húrr River, though Útels have been known to travel there on a pilgrimage to the site of Nanaþ'alinei -center of the city-state which ruled the lake so long ago- to pay respects to Ela'k, their main culture hero.
A few have braved the wilds in search of the Amulet of Ela'k, an object of great power in Útel folklore, which some believe to have hidden near Nanaþ'alinei, though all have returned empty-handed.

Geography

Erra Lake, now roughly oval-shaped, is only a third of the size it was when Ela'k ruled the region, during which it had a shape similar to a butterfly, but has since partially dried up as Dragonía's climate became warmer and more arid. As a result, the lake is mostly surrounded by wetlands -bogs and marshes in particular- which are teeming with life, but difficult for visitors to traverse.

Fauna & Flora

Þap'orlan salamanders, ancestors of the semi-domesticated giant salamanders raised by the Útels, are endemic to Erra Lake, as are several species of fish and smaller amphibians found there. Around the lake, one can find Ykan Birds, Marsh Boars and other common woodland creatures, some of which are descendants of livestock that escaped as the place was depopulated.
