Ela'k

Ela'k is a culture hero of the Útels, often referred to as their common ancestor and widely worshipped via libations. Originally a chief of an ancient Alalarían tribe, he revolutionized his society by by emphasizing agriculture instead of hunting and gathering, and introduced a caste system, the basis of the 26 modern castes of the Útels.
Much of Útel folklore consists of stories of Ela'ks life, beliefs and customs, to the point that little is know about him with any certainty. Even his name is forgotten, since he's become synonymous with the title of Ela'k as later Útel chiefs have fallen into obscurity.

Personal history

Son of a Alalarían chief in the village of Nanaþ'alinei, near lake Erra around 8000 years ago. He alone passed the tribe's rite of passage as a child, where the children were sent to a clearing and approached by men disguised as spirits of the forest. While the others cried and cowered in fear, Ela'k greeted the 'spirits' and offered them some food as he had been taught to do.
He was known as a strict but fair ruler, venerated the nature spirits greatly with offerings of pigs and honey, and wandered around the woods early in the morning to listen to the spirits' whispers.
Ela'k had six children, but was killed by an Ölan Panther before announcing who would become the chief.
