Umúns

Umúns1 are small antelopes endemic to the shores of Ymn Lake, deep in the Southern Desert of southeastern Dragonía. They are the last surviving ones of several species of antelopes which once roamed southern and southeastern Dragonía, back when the region was a vast grassland, and spend most of their time in the reeds close to the lake's shore.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Umún bucks are slightly larger than the does, and sport a pair of tiny horns used to fight over them during mating season.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Umúns rarely drink water, as they get most of the fluids they need from various grasses, leaves, flowers, buds and shoots which grow around Ymn Lake. Domesticated umúns mostly eat Gúat flowers or leftover Darg Roots, lettuce, crushed gúat stalks and other vegetables.

Additional Information

Domestication

The Minotaurs who inhabit the area around Ymn Lake have kept umúns as pets for millennia, and the resulting domesticated variety is generally less shy and more diurnal than wild ones. Many are allowed to roam freely in towns and cities, where they are merely nudged aside if they get in the way, as harming an umún is taboo among Minotaurs.
