Opening the Vault. What’s inside the Village Vaults?

Today we are sharing a bit more about From the Village Vaults (FtVV) in our article, Opening the Vault. If you followed along during Spooktober, you might have seen the first taste of these one-shot adventures. FtVVs started as a way to bring bite-sized, story-driven encounters to life, and after seeing the response, we’re excited to keep them going as a regular series.

Dragonguard Progress Report (DPR-3)

Issue 3 - Now more mobile friendly! And also, other spooky updates.
Follow the Legends of the Dragonguard for updates, challenges, and more!

Spooky month came with a World Anvil challenge: Spooktober! This time around, my submissions were stories told by pirates.   But now it's time for a whole new event for World Anvil: NovelEmber! Let's write 50k words! (Or whatever your goal is)
November is also the prep month for WorldEmber, so I gotta make a prep page for that.   I have decided to share my writing progress on my Substack and add to it as the days go by.     I created a word goal tracker, if anyone wants to use it. I've also made a list of character traits and put them in a sortable, searchable table!
Word Goal Tracker
Generic article | Nov 20, 2024

A tutorial on how to use the Word Goal Tracker; a simple tracker / log for a writing goal.

Character Traits
Generic article | Nov 20, 2024

A list of character traits and their description.

Also, I've been updating the site to make it more mobile friendly.
  • The sidebar menu is now hidden on mobile; you have to expand it with a trigger button. The TOC is still kind of in the sidebar, but there's a separate trigger button below the menu trigger that will expand the sidebar but only show the Table of Contents.
  • The navboxes at the bottom of pages are now displayed as a single column on mobile.
  • Event banner at the top changes to fit smaller screens.
  • Some specific pages got better mobile friendliness, too!
  • Rayhaven Dragonguard Academy instructor tables are now displayed as a single column.
  • The Characters page now has a tab for displaying the legend on mobile, kind of like another sidebar.

    End-of-October Update! +November Plans!

Hello everyone! I did a bunch of scrolling through community posts this month and it looks like people had fun with #Spooktober. It also looks like some people had a less-than-stellar month, so I'm hoping those of you who didn't have a great time will have a much better month coming up.
I had no concrete plans for October, I'd only sort of wanted to work on professions and organizations. Spooktober threw that off because my brother convinced me to write for it and of course that meant I would have to at least get the badge. So I wrote 14 articles. Here's the collection: Spooktober 2024 Collection. I also participated in Tyrdal's #unofficialchallenge Fires of Creation, which was super fun and was a great way to end the month right before I finished The CKGs today.
November plans! I'm going to participate in #NovelEmber, even if I've never done something like this before. My plan is to write a full novella as well as a specific article. I'm counting both of those for my goal. Here's the article with my plans: NovelEmber 2024.
I'm feeling pretty good about this month and I'm super excited for the upcoming month! I hope you all have a great week and I'll see you all soon!

    End of October....

    old Illustration by me.
October may have seemed quiet for me, I was busy writing and adding to my world, Work on the manuscript is still going. I have to pause and answer many questions about aspects I hadn't considered, such as larger world issues that my story should focus on outside of my characters, as well as how the magic system works. I did not have much time to work on #Spooktober I only completed two prompts. I debating on starting a world for just archiving stories I write about the characters I play in other games, or may releasing their stories in chapter format with a manuscript.
In my campaign, one guild of players accidentally—allegedly—released a demon into part of the world, which may or may not have eaten a few villages and destroyed half a keep in the Craglands. They are currently on their way to trial with the Dwarven Sun King Thorin Dankil. The other guild has just started the quest for the Thirteen Treasures to potentially cleanse the world of Umbral water. They received a guild building expansion.
Anyways, here's to Novelember coming, and working more! I hope you are doing fantastic, below are my entries and recent articles.

    October 28, 2024 (Bonus Update)

Hi there, everyone. I know that I have been absent for a minute. I updated the paid Introductory Interns and above, but I just thought that I should also address free followers, dollar patrons, one-time supporters, and others who would like to be in-the-know.   The past week was hectic because I was out of town helping my brother WildZooGuy film a production. Please do check him out and give him a follow. Cool content should be posted in the future and you may even see me in it!   I hope the trip was considered a productive success for him. Meanwhile, I was hardly able to work on any of my own projects at all, which left me with a lot of catching up to do when I finally made it home. This included some freelance gigs that were due along with my creative endeavors and things I owe to you all. I also now feel a bit under the weather, which is unfortunate. And I had to return to my weekend cashier job. And things are still quite turbulent on the financial side, but I've still just been trying to keep praying and keep going. Prayers are much appreciated.   Despite all that, as I returned, several things were wrapping up. I managed to draw a bit on the plane and at the hotel so I could post my Spooktober entry as soon as possible when I got home. I ended up finishing it the morning of the big red button being pressed on stream to end the challenge lol. You can check out The Pages Left Behind and even discover a new art trading platform that I’ve been part of for a bit called New Embers. It’s just ramping up and they’ve added some of my packs to collect! If you’d like to support indie artists without AI or NFTs, you can sign up for free. You get new free packs to open every day, and you can unlock the platform’s currency by completing achievements and interacting in the community! They also accept real-money payment to refill your currency, and the artists can cash out when they hit a certain amount in their bank. If you’d like, you can also become an artist on the platform yourself and submit your own packs to be traded. It’s so much fun and the creators and artists seem so kind. Please do check it out. If you sign up through my link, we’ll both get free currency!   Anyways, during that same stream where they closed the Spooktober challenge, it was announced that my article, Pumilla Academia actually WON the Institutions of Learning Challenge! I was absolutely shocked when I initially figured out that I’d been added to the shortlist. I thought it must have been due to pity or something. I never got added to any WorldAnvil shortlist, and I never won any article contest or anything like that on WorldAnvil ever before. Also, my CSS was a bit wonky and the page had too many gaps because I wanted it to fit on mobile but I didn’t have the time to make it actually right, so I added a lot of spaces from my phone on the day before that challenge was closed on stream lol. In addition, my mom pointed out that I literally had a spelling error in the first sentence on the whole page. In the word EDUCATION, for crying out loud. And this is an Institutions of Learning challenge. I facepalmed so much but couldn’t edit it. Even though I figured I wouldn’t win, I didn’t want to edit it until it was announced I hadn’t made the shortlist (which didn’t happen) so I waited until it was announced I didn’t win (which didn’t happen). Lol I am just so weirded out that I won and I want to thank everyone for congratulating me, reading the article, and all that. Much love. I still feel like an imposter though.   In addition to all this, spooky time is here! There is fun galore happening in the Infinite Imaginations discord server, including a Trick-Or-Treating event in which secrets are being discovered…   I also announced that tickets for the full Only the Haunting Nightmares audio movie (with some visual elements) are now on sale! Last year’s Spooktober project ended on a cliffhanger and I wasn’t able to complete it all, but I have tried hard to get the second half ready for everyone. If you’d like to attend, there are several showtimes. Please check the listing to see if there is a slot that aligns with your schedule.   If you don’t remember anything about it, you can head over to this page for a sampler. Here is the synopsis:

It’s the Thirty-First of October and strange things are happening. Despite the odd occurrences, Someone and Constance are sent on a dangerous mission to catch an elusive killer. However, all is not as it seems...

Much more is in store. Please stay tuned! I thank everyone for their ongoing support, be it in payment, reading, encouragement, likes, follows, subscriptions, or anything of the sort. God bless and much success to you all with your own endeavors. Sending prayers, love, and healing hugs always. <3   edit: I always forget to add hashtags #spooktober #spooktober2024 #institutionsoflearning #challenge

So I have my Spooktober article written. It's more dark than scary, but it fits. It still needs prettifying, and I still need to make the snippets for the prompts, but it's good for a read.
The Final Gauntlet is the trial Qira undertakes in the (NEW!) short story Falling Light. It's the final test for a Light-blessed, and if they succeed, they become the avatar of Light. That means, of course, it's a difficult and dangerous undertaking.

If you didn't catch it earlier, Oct. 20 was the 4th anniversary of Lapis of Nicodem! The first chapter of Lapis was the first ever serial chapter I'd written, so it was a milestone even in 2020.
Hopefully this gets me pumped to draw that portrait of Rin I've been meaning to create for the website. And maybe I'll get a khentauree drawn, too (I am not as good at combining horse/deer bodies with humanoid torsos as I am drawing portraits. They look funny).

Challenge accepted/Challenge completed! Spooktober wrap up and more <3

So, Spooktober's finale is just around the corner and I am very proud to say: I made it! All 21 prompts are now available and published and the adventure through the haunted "Twilight Macabre" awaits everyone who dares enter. The endeavor of building a text adventure was a true marathon; one that was super satisfying! What shocked me was I haven't even realized before today that I published the last article, that I have written more than 35,000 words in total for this adventure! I haven't written that much in a while and I have missed it a lot. If you have no clue what I'm talking about, all you need to do is visit my Spooktober hub in the bottom of this post and follow the instructions. I will be thrilled to see what you think of it if you do!
For those who have already embarked on the journey of the Twilight Macabre: Thank you! I really appreciate the support and your feedback

    What else is coming?

    1. I have already started working on Noel's Unofficial challenge on Family History. You can find the link to the challenge on the bottom of this post as well. Make sure to enter this. The theme is awesome and the rewards will blow your mind! Submission period is open until October 31, so hurry!

    2. Also, don't forget to check Tyrdal's challenge of the Longest Journey. I think Chapter 2 (link on the bottom of the post again) will run for two more weeks. But this is not all from Tyrdal. I'm very curious to see what the challenge called "Flashfire" will be about!

    3. I'm not sure if I will participate in Noverlember since Spooktober drained me a bit, but I will sure try to publish some short stories for my new world, called "Chronicles of blood". We shall see where this will lead me :D

    4. Last but not least, I urge you to stay tuned because sometime around the end of the month something Grand and Spectacular is coming. A new unofficial challenge will be released; a collaborative work of me and the amazing CoolG. I think you' ll love this one <3

That's all for now! Until we speak again, I wish your days be full of inspiration, joy and happiness! And as always, don't forget to #SharetheLove

    October Progress!

Hello everyone! Some of you may have noticed I haven't been uploading as much this month. That was because I was very busy with uni, so haven't had a lot of time to write or polish my articles here. I had planned to complete Spooktober this year, like I did last year, but I realise that is now impossible.
For #Spooktober2024, I've made three articles this month, and I'm hoping to make another two today and tomorrow! But I'm still happy with the progress I've made because I started to expand on a previously unknown continent, and over the next few months, I will hopefully be adding some more lore to the Old World. I also think I've found my writer's/worldbuilder's voice, which I'm really happy about, because now my articles look less like Wikipedia entries!
Another thing I've thought about doing is modelling! In my studies, I use CAD a lot, and an idea I had for Spooktober sparked a desire to model some items in CAD. I'm not sure how well this will go, because I've never modelled my own designs before. But I'll probably start posting completed models or add them to my articles!
For now, you can read my articles in the Spooktober hub I've made. I hope you enjoy! Happy worldbuilding!

    September ends & Spooktober starts

    September

Sweet, sweet vacation in the rocky Tatra mountains... I managed to get some rest and go on an adventure or two. It was my first time climbing the Świnica (2302 m a.s.l.) while passing by numerous crystal clear colourful lakes. Several days later, however, me and my partner decided to finish the trip strong and climb one of the Red Peaks. Never before had I the pleasure to be almost swept by the tumultous winds. Well I was, in the Lowlands, close home, but never high in the mountains with half a day to go, cold to the bone and having difficulty standing. It later turned out that after descending the first peak we had to climb another one to get down, which was a blast. The number of ideas I got for future stories... the adrenaline that will make for a wonderful tab in the memory... superb.

    Spooktober (& NovelEmber)

#Spooktober is here and as in the last year I plan on writing a handful of poems. In line with the theme I will prepare for #novelember with my spooky short story. The preparations began in spring, so I have a good deal of chunks to bounce from.

So here, from the coziness of my couch I wish you good luck with the upcoming stuff. Double to the students, to which the new semester just started.

    Stormwatch Forecast: October Onward

wait no stop where did september go I still had stuff to do D:
Well, it's been a busy start to the school year -- shocker, I know! Mixed emotions with that, to be honest. I've gotten a lot done: my institutions article, Tatete redesigned, Sage seminar given, and even got a nice start on some Spooktober prompts. I have been keeping up with classes, started working for my professor again, and managed to stay more social than I've been in the last 2 years!
But one thing I didn't get to do, that I was determined to do (and so I'm pretty disappointed I haven't) is start my novel. I was so sure I'd at least get one chapter done in September. For some reason, it feels both like the easiest thing to start, and yet an insurmountable task. The closer I get myself to starting it, the harder it feels to actually write the first word. I am so nervous about it, for some reason? I'm not trying to write literary gold on my first try, but I just want to get a story down so that I can fiddle with and edit it into something I'm proud of. I just need to get that start D:
Spooktober has helped a bit, I think. I did write 2k words of prose for a spooktober prompt of Aberration! A tiny short horror story that I've been told is "disturbingly beautiful" and "the most messed up thing you've ever written", which feels GREAT to hear >:)
    Genesistial Aberrance
    Generic article | Dec 7, 2024

Genesist Catalurgists use the blood of dead gods to fuel their magic of creation. However, a rare sickness afflicts these powerful individuals, and sometimes they wind up creating their own worst nightmares.

I dunno, maybe this will help? Bit of "prose warmup" or something, haha.
Have any of you managed to get around this sort of block? The ideas exist, the will exists, but as soon as I have time to write this story, my brain wants to do absolutely anything else but that. How have you managed to convince yourself to start writing in a healthy way that doesn't feel forced? I want to enjoy the process because the work of mine that I like best is work that I make for myself first and foremost. I need to write this story for me, because it's going to be a long process, and I want to enjoy that process!
In the meantime, I've still been doing this and that here and there. Added a Snippets subscriber role (visible on all Snippet articles on Cathedris) for people that want to see short micro-content. Been drawing some spooky Rendlings, and I've just started the Farad redesign too (he looks so much more interesting now). The other project I keep putting off is finishing the theme for Asundris (future Cathedris), and I'm worried I won't get that done in time for WorldEmber. But I'm trying to tell myself that's okay too -- I've got a lot on my plate.
I hope y'all have a good week ahead! And if you're a fellow Canadian, have a great thanksgiving this weekend.

The rest of the Novella will be released at the same time I get done with the Main first book, Soft and Subtle Wind. I need to finish up some artwork and editing, but I think I'll actually be publishing both sooner rather than later. Like, actually publishing, physical copies and all ;P

    Spooktober in Progress!

After disappearing off the face of the Earth for two months (well, one but the thing I was working on in September isn't live yet), I am... going to try to do #Spooktober! But first things first.

    Great Beasts
    Generic article | Jan 8, 2025

The general name for a group of (not necessarily actually connected) exceptionally dangerous and powerful unique monsters.

The Great Beasts is my entry for the unofficial #Mystember challenge, which I just learned about by lurking on the Discord yesterday. The cool thing is that this gave me an opportunity to do an article that will now be the fodder for Spooktober, because....
I'm going with a theme of Bestiary Entries and Antagonists, including fleshing out (hopefully) all 9 of the Great Beasts that I just put in that article.

So, how is Spooktober going for you?

I am super excited about this challenge! It is so immersive and inspiring, so I decided to go a little wild. I'm trying to make a text adventure out of it. All of the articles for the prompts will be connected and your decisions will lead from one to another! It is still in development, but I have already released the first two articles (and a bonus one if you happen to take the route that leads to it)! Not all the choices are ready, but once it is completed I think it will be fun! So what do you think of this approach? Is it something you would enjoy? If you want to check it out, the journey starts from the "Lair", a mysterious circus that appears only once a year somewhere in Kena'an. Check it out below and tell me what you think!

    SPOOKY SEASON IS HERE

Well, I ran through the list for spooktober, and saw one that caught my eye right away. OH BOY, have I decided the vast majority of these are going to be about The Shadows. Now, as of right now, The Shadows have only been talked about in all of about 3 articles. I haven't really gotten around to them, though I have an enormous amount of canon about them, just unpublished.

Either way, whether anyone knows it or not, the Shadows are not... pleasant. Nor do I actually want anyone, including my own characters, to learn all that much about them. The only ones that do, are here in the world, but being here is rather a vague term, isn't it? Those that are gone, but not lost. Here, but also not.
So, why not get started in my usual way. Let us throw it in the deep end.

    The End of Spooktober

Thanks to everyone who read, liked, or commented on my #Spooktober articles! I wasn't sure if I would earn my badge, as this month I was working full-time, taking front-end dev classes, and moving to another time zone. It was a hectic month, but I am pleased with the 13 articles I wrote.   My favorite article was about Ambroze, our vampire villain: Ambroze, The Vampire   Here's my Spooktober Page if you missed it: Spooktober - 2023   (First time posting globally, using an image, and trying out hashtags. Let's hope it all works!)

    River Rush - October Edition

With the new hashtags and all the updates to the global feed, I figured it was about time to start (attempting) monthly updates about the state of Isekai and what Shiftrex and I are up to in the Anvilspace.

    Spooktober

Once again, I attempted #Spooktober and actually succeeded! While I didn't reach the 20 squashed stubs that I wanted, I still finished 13 great articles that added a little more life to Isekai with species. Super happy with what I did accomplish and am excited to continue forward.

    More Countries

If you've been following Isekai for a while, you've probably seen the massive country articles that have been published. My husband is the brains behind those and we are still working through the larger countries on the Northern Continent. This month, he finished the Elven Kingdom which has been a hit!

    Elven Kingdom
    Organization | Jul 3, 2024

The Elven Kingdom is a vast territory that encompasses thousands of miles of forest and is said to be the oldest in the world, the birthplace of life for both animals and plants. In this land, the many types of Elves stand as guardians of the forest.

    Future Plans

#WorldEmber Prep month is upon us (tomorrow)! I will be participating in the homework that will be put out on stream and prepping myself for the big event. Overall, my plans are to finish many of the partially complete articles that I made during Summer Camp and do some more cleanup on Isekai as well.
Shiftrex may or may not be participating in WorldEmber, but you can expect to see more countries and even possibly some Storybook content from him over the next couple of months.

    First Comic in 20+ Years

I've just published my first completed comic book in 20+ years, which I created with #Spooktober2023 prompts. I hope you enjoy it.

    Prose | Nov 16, 2024

Join the mischievous Cheshire Cat, the world's worst scarecrow, and the gifted Granny Goose for a prologue to THE BLOOD OF SEVEN QUEENS.

I learned a lot that I hope to apply on future projects, including art for #WorldEmber. I heard it's coming, after all.

    Happy Spooktober to All!

Happy Spooktober! I'm very happy that I was able to submit articles for all the prompts this year - I've only recently started getting involved in Challenges, and I've found the prompts have really helped me to keep to my goal of writing at least 300 words per day. I've adopted this goal as a mental health practice, and making sure that I write daily is important to my emotional well-being and ability to stay sane, so I'm very grateful for anything that helps me achieve that goal. I've collected my Spooktober articles in a single page, should anyone care to look through them - I welcome any comments, particularly any constructive criticism you may have. I hope you are all having a wonderful Spooktober!

    Lucky 13 for Spooktober

I've had a fun time with Spooktober, and today I reached my target for the badge milestone. This has been really fun focussing each prompt on in-world story-telling, with each of the prompts tying together a few parts of the lore I have built over the last fe years.   The last batch have covered some of the deepest lore of Shadowfire, from aeons before the Destruction with the myths and legacy of the Elder Gods themselves. I've also explored the impact of time quakes, the struggles of an assassin ghost and opened up an as yet unexplored region underneath the frozen expanse of Sea of Black Ice.   I'm going to finish up the month reading other people's work, there's a lot of inspiring nuggets of spookiness around. Great work everybody!

    #Spooktober prompt: Despair

Okay, let's try this. Here's one I haven't posted about yet. My article for the #Spooktober 'Despair' prompt is "The Bloodletter's Cult of Redfall Reach." Believing that damnation after death is inevitable, they violently cling to the Everliving's promise that it is possible to never die. They've got no qualms about killing people outside the faith, of course. In fact, it's pretty much mandatory.

    Full Spooktober Spookiness Done

Have got all Spooktober entries done. Putting up the page here, and when in have a click on any that tickles your fancy, and have a good read.   "Spooky Spooktober Here, Get Your Spookiness Here, Just A Click Away"   World Ember next and will see what I can get done there. Ought to be interesting. Maybe expand some of the Spooktober stuff, or may look at the SF stuff I have. Been there a long while and always thought it would make a good companion setting overall.   #spooktober

    Spooktober 2023 First Pics

So I'm using #Spooktober as a means to create images for a video I plan to make as an intro to the Evenacht serial book site (here at WA!)
I'll be presenting it as sorta picture-heavy story for Spooktober. It's a WIP with more to come since I haven't reached 13 yet, but I'm happy with what I've done so far (still need to enter the relevant pics into the Spooktober categories).

    Stormwatch Forecast: Spooktober Snippets!

Surprise surprise but school is demanding 99.9% of all my time again :D
But thankfully I'm still able to find a tiny bit of time to write! Thankfully, I've been inspired by everyone doing "stubtober" for this #Spooktober event, and I've been having a really fun time keeping my entries at 50 words or less. It's surprisingly difficult yet rewarding to do so, and it feels fresh and helps me to keep creating.
It also helps that I've made a new CSS presentation for my snippets in particular, making them visually distinct! Let me know what you think of them :D
In fact, here's a couple to see here:

    Spooktober2023: in sight!

For those who want to see the whole thing, I've created a catch-all article.

Fair warning: Peanuts characters are aged up, and I do not consider adult content out of reach, although, at least for now, I'm leaving it off the page. I'll mark the relevant articles adult-only, when that changes. But for now, my page says 25 of 27 submitted, and that's exciting, although I do need to work on a few articles, who ended up being hypershort ideas for now. Thankfully, I got two weeks to do that.

    Who is ready for #TuesdayFiction?

Shall we once more blast our creations unto the world? Join me today in tweeting about a recent short story, worldbuilding article, piece of art, or other creative thing you have done. Add the #tuesdayfiction hashtag and we can boost each other. Don't forget the #spooktober hashtag if it applies and let everyone know more about World Anvil! Here is my tweet as a sample. I used 12 prompt words to make an introduction to my article:
A fountain's Venus statue spilt water as we bobbed and weaved. Sly delusions tried to deposit their malicious intent and box me in like my sisters. Chilling air whipped about us but my turban kept my mind clean. Our task's enormity loomed as we swooped over Merino. Crystal of Eylium #tuesdayfiction
