Muireall den Mhuir (Muriel)
The Witch of the Foreshore
Muireall den Mhuir (a.k.a. The Witch of the Foreshore, Marion of the Sea)
Born on a far northern isle, Muireall spent her young life dreaming of traveling and leaving her simplistic roots behind. However all that she can remember now is her own spite at neglecting those old days, the rest are grey fleeting dreams. All her young life is hidden behind the dark storm clouds, crashing lightning and roaring waves of the night that she died. What happened that night she plainly refuses to speak off, but she remembers the last breath leaving her lungs, the swirling blackness that tossed and turned her lifeless body about. And then the bright bolt that struck her heart. The sea had carried her far from her native shores. Bitter and in anguish she headed into the wide world she had once dreamed off, burying her fury and anger deep within together with the swirling essence that the storm had left behind. Since that cold awakening years have passed and on the verges of society she has nursed her bitter heart and never looked back.
Muireall is a Reborn Storm Sorceress that focuses heavily on embodying the violent forces that inhabit her. All her spell choices are focussed on making her a force of destructive nature and are all linked to her ability to control the storms. Which leaves most of her spells to be thunder, lightning or cold spells that are especially suited to dealing damage or controlling opponents, with little in the way of utility spells or abilities. Her personality and living condition mostly developed her social graces, or lack thereof, and her ability to keep herself alive in the wilds, on the roads and in the dark places of the world at the edge of society.
However despite her desperate desire to be left to herself, living in a society, even on the edge of it, does mean that she has had to find a place in it. Begrudgingly she began to use her new found talents and abilities to aid the town folks and earn her stay. She began in the earliest days after her recovery by helping the soul that had helped her recover, the medicine woman Saga who served as the Town’s chief physician and herbalist. Then as she spent more and more time on the foreshore watching the sun rise and set as the waves steadily crashed around her feet, she offered advice to fishermen and travelers about the weather. When the seas would be dangerous, when rogue storms were hiding beyond the horizon or whether black rain clouds were worth worrying about. While her advice was initially treated with some skepticism, her accurate estimates eventually earned her the respect of the fishermen. And soon all sorts of folk came to her to ask for advice. Farmers wanted to know when they should move their cattle indoors or protect their crops from heavy storms, merchants wanted to hear when it was advisable to set up their stalls and townsfolk asked eagerly if the next day would bring clear skies for a festival.
The more she was seen the more people enjoyed speculating and spreading rumours. To children, who often came to find her out of curiosity as she sat among the rocks, she introduced herself as Marion of the Sea. A form of her name that was more common among the locals and easier for them to pronounce. Yet despite her attempts to seem more plain, many people speculated that she was a Siren, a Sea Nymph or a Water Hag. It was how she eventually ended up with her nickname of Witch of the Foreshore and during her time there she would only ever grow close to a few people.
Relationships Apart from some brave children who tend to visit her to learn her fey secrets or watch her spark lightning between her fingertips, she mostly only talks to her dear friends. Perhaps most obvious amongst them is her fellow in the mysterious arts, Saga. She feels she owes her fellow Witch a debt of life as she was the one who treated her wounds and healed her body as well as her mind after her terrible incident. She has trusted Saga to help her figure out how her new found powers can be controlled, even if that was sometimes a bit out of her depth. And she helped Muireall make a living for herself in the community after her recovery. For all her help she considers Saga a close friend and colleague.
And of course there is Mister Radboud Eveningflow who quite literally caught her in his net and pulled her near lifeless body out of the sea. Such an experience is bound to form a bond between individuals. Since that peculiar day Muireall and Mister Eveningflow have begun to build an awkward but firm friendship. With Muireall often being there at sunrise when he leaves with the other Fisherman, able to give him advice if he wishes to hear it or simply to speed his boat along with a strong breeze in his sails. And slowly the two have become a bit more familial, playing pranks on each other or venting to each other about the annoyances of having to deal with other people.
The last and perhaps the most odd to become a companion of Muirreal was a young halfling woman that often snuck in among the group of children to come listen to her stories. She seemed fascinated by Muirreal’s stories and abilities and the local Witch was happy to accommodate this halfling lass who went by Arti (Artiana Sootfoot ). However it might have all stayed rather one sided if it hadn't been for the fact that Muirreal found out quickly that, while Arti was brilliant and creative, she was perhaps a bit naive and found it difficult to figure out the truth of one’s words. So perhaps rather selfishly Muirreal decided to make use of that. Her own hurt, dark thoughts and swirling memories of a lifetime wasted and the horrific night that snuffed out her life, if even for a mere moment, she took it all and wrapped it in stories. Replacing herself with a variety of different characters and figures she would tell Arti her story bit by bit. Safe, for now, in the knowledge that the young halfling was unlikely to find the truth in her stories for at least some time. As a result, Muirreal has grown rather fond of the wild young woman, perhaps aided by the fact that Muirreal lives quite far and safe from all the ruckus and explosions that happen in town.

Appearance
Muireall herself is a tall woman, seemingly in the middle of her thirties. With wild, thick and curling auburn hair that hangs often freely but just as often braided, to about the middle of her back. She is dressed seemingly perpetually in the same deep blue dress that probably once held a great elegance. Adorned with fine gilded stitching and stunning velvet lining, once upon a time it might have been fit for the greatest of festivities or celebrations. But the churning waters and her time on the edge of society have made it as worn as she is herself. Cuts and tears had to be stitched, sleeves removed during work in warm summers, it is clearly showing the signs of vigorous wear and tear. This appearance of faded nobility in combination with a set of sea-gray eyes that seem to reflect the endless breaking of the surf have started plenty of speculation as to the nature of her origins, aided by her refusal to speak of it often or indeed her general tendency to avoid any undue contact with townspeople that she isn't already familiar with.History
A lonely figure she makes, owing her name to where she can most often be found. Muireall arrived in town several years ago and since then she has become a recognisable if curious figure in the community. Everything from her appearance to the nature of her arrival has given the townsfolk plenty of cause for gossip and rumour, and that is discounting her peculiar gift. However despite her desperate desire to be left to herself, living in a society, even on the edge of it, does mean that she has had to find a place in it.
