We took some time to heal up and then searched the ship, hoping to avoid any nasty surprises. We did not find any surprises, but we did find a couple of crates. Stirling started bashing on one of them, making slow headway. In the meantime, Taleih found some sort of crystal on the top of the other crate. Sir Arathur had their prisoner go over and press his thumb against it. He reluctantly did so, opening the crate. Inside were some heavy metal bars of various shapes. Stirling managed to crack his open enough to see that it also held similar bars of metal. Further into the ship we found an alcove where the large Automaton had come from. There was also a ramp leading further down that held many boxes. These looked like the boxes we had seen loaded onto the ship all day. However, as we were checking these out another of the hammer-wielding Automatons appeared. He lowered his hammer to the ground and attempted to deliver a message to us. Sir Arathur was able to tell that it was trying to ask something of us, but not what. It just stood and kept repeating the same message. The Android prisoner looked somewhat perplexed at the behavior of the Automaton. Sir Arathur, Dold & Krolmnite headed back across the island to let Captain Fizzleboot know we planned to head for Stormbreaker Cove with the boat. They then headed back to the boat, starting out of the bay once Captain Fizzleboot brought his submarine around to join them. As they started backing the ship out of the bay, one of the escaped Androids ran into one of the buildings and then shortly ran back out. Shortly after this the buildings started blowing up in succession. Krolmnite & Stirling cast spells and flew to shore to ensure that there were no prisoners left in the buildings. Sir Arathur dove overboard to start swimming to shore, in case any help was needed. By the time he got there the others had determined that the buildings did not hold any prisoners. They flew back & he swam back. As the last buildings exploded they heaved a sigh of relief. However, they were then surprised when something in the hold started exploding. the ship quickly started listing as more explosions continued going off. The Automaton turned and started guiding people off the ship. Once everyone else was off it leapt off itself. Soon, everyone made their way to shore, including the Automaton and our prisoner.
We built a fire to signal Fizzleboot & dry ourselves off. Sir Arathur gathered a hammer from the fallen Automatons & gave it to the Automaton from the ship. It gestured to the prisoner and us and turned to head North. It found the escaped Android workers near the destroyed portal. They were happy to see it... until it started smashing them with it's hammer. they quickly scattered in horror while some of the party began trying to block it's progress. Taleih was able to Dimension Door to in front of it. When she appeared it stopped and started repeating it's message. The other Android's continued running away. After a bit we were able to draw it back to the fire we had made. We decided to rest inside the sole remaining building. Sir Arathur and Leon attempted to get the prisoner to help Sir Arathur learn more of his language, with no success. Taleih attempted to convince him we were friendly on her watch with more success. The next morning, the Automaton started doing the same thing we had tried with the Android the previous night. He started with a chair, then a table, then his hammer, learning one word at a time. By the end of the day Sir Arathur had picked up enough of their language to communicate with them! He used his skills with translation so that the group could now speak through him. They learned that the Automaton was named 907AN. He explained that he and other units like him wished to rise up against their "creators", the Androids. They had no desire to harm any organics, as long as the organics did not wish them harm. Once the creators were destroyed they would wish to live in peace. He told us of a quarry near the 2nd Android base we were looking to find. He said that there were about 20 more like him that would rise up against the creators, if freed by us. We did learn the 2nd base was some 10,000 creators strong. As of ~100 days ago there had only been about a dozen of the creators overseeing the quarry. We spoke with the Android prisoner, who basically confirmed that the Androids had no interest in co-existing with any organics. We finally released the Android, then left. We headed for the quarry to free the other Automatons.
On the way, we also learned that there is another portal in the Android city, but that it had not worked in a very long time. 907AN was also able to relay some details of the complex we were going to and told us he would go with us to keep the clockworks involved from entering the fray.
