The following morning, as we headed out, one of the guards told us one of the villagers we had rescued had been very talkative with Mayor Rezess the previous night. Apparently, there was an Iruxi woman named Reeza who was the messenger from the Necromancer's camp. She was very much still living and had been in contact with the village. She worked for someone named Voshuk. This may be the name of her superior and/or the Necromancer. The villager also spoke about a famous mercenary named Riggtrik who was working for the bad guys. He was rumored to be able to scare his foes to death. With this information in hand we set out to look for the Necromancer and/or his minions. After 2 days we passed through the site of the undead Dragon attack. We took some time to bury the dead villagers we had left behind a few days ago. After another day we came to the village, which remained empty. The following day we continued past the village to find the site of the undead army. From there we continued for several more days, following cart tracks. The terrain became more rocky as we moved further west. On the 2nd day we found a structure nestled in against some rocky terrain. It appeared to be some sort of stable for both living and undead creatures. Leon immediately walked over and smashed the 2 skeletal dinosaurs there into small pieces. They did not fight back. We turned and continued on, again following the cart tracks. We eventually came to a cave opening. We prepared and entered the cave. Inside the cave we saw 2 more stalls with 1 skeletal dinosaur hitched to an empty wagon. Leon made quick work of this undead beast of burden as well. The cave continued further in, turning out of site. We formed up 2 abreast and continued in.
Soon we entered a worked stone area 15 feet wide with a pit full of acid down the center 5 feet. After a few twists and turns we were ambushed by a group of skeletons wielding shortbows. They loosed their arrows at Leon before we could react, but luckily Leon was able to duck behind his shield. Making the matter more problematic was that they were standing in a pool of the acid. Most of us chose cantrips or missile weapons to deal with them. Dold jumped in and waded over to fight them, confirming this was indeed acid. We quickly defeated them. Looking around some more we found a locked room with iron doors and difficult locks. Sir Arathur popped the locks open with little problems, but we found nothing of value inside. We continued north, further into this complex. We passed through a long hallway with crumbled statues down either side. Just past the hallway we heard some sound off to the west. Following the sound we soon found an Iruxi woman in a mithril breastplate standing with her back to the doorway we peeked through. She wore some sort of techno gauntlets. Standing near her was an extra large undead Iruxi. We could sense 2 more off to the sides in some alcoves. Further in we could see a pale Iruxi performing a ritual while standing over a corpse. As we discussed how to proceed in low tones, we were obviously heard. The woman called out "Who goes there"? When we did not respond right away the undead Iruxi started towards us, with the woman following behind. After a short conversation where the woman told us repeatedly that we should go away, combat broke out. Sir Arathur was able to identify the undead creatures as Grave Knights. After a protracted battle we managed to defeat them & the Iruxi woman. Krolmnite was very frustrated, as his magical healing seemed to be blocked somehow, but still managed to get a fair amount of spot healing out too. We were thankful we had Taleih's Bardic magic and Sir Arathur's battle medicine to fall back on. Towards the end of the fight we saw the Iruxi in the far hall finish his ritual and take the now animated corpse with him. Sir Arathur thought more on the failing Heal spells towards the end and was able to recall that the Grave Knights had a fairly large aura that interrupted Positive energy near them. By the time we finished the fight we had lost track of the ritual caster & were in no shape to pursue anyhow. We took some time to heal up and explore the immediate area, not finding too much of interest. We decided it would be best to rest for the night and continue our search the following day.
