Voices..unknown voices are whispering in the dark. They speak of my name.

“Adam… Adam…”

A chill goes up my spine as the whispers continue to grow louder and louder.

“Adam… Adam…”

I try to move, but I am restrained by something that feels cold and hard.

“ADAM!”

My eyes opened as a blinding light flashed before them, forcing my eyelids to close once more. My sight is blurry as I tried to focus on the source of two familiar figures looking down at me as…if their worried?

Oh, oh…I remember now. Did I blackout again? “H-hey Alice and Bobby,” I sheepishly announced as the memories of the conversation with my father slowly comes back to me. The little sister gave a reassuring smile while her brother was more confused than worried.

“Adam, are you okay?” Alice asked as she gently rubbed the top of my head. “Y-yeah, I think so,” I reply as the haze of memory clears away. “What happened to me?” I ask as the siblings look at each other.

“You were screaming about something that we do not understand and then…” Alice then uncomfortably looked at her brother for support as he spoke on her behalf, “and then you were knocked out.” He then looks at me and says, “we thought that you might be dead at first until you woke up.”

That explains a lot. I hope I did not scare them too much. “I am fine,” I assure them as I sit up and rubs the sleep from my face. “How long was I asleep for anyway?”

“We..we did not actually know how long but I think a couple of minutes,” Bobby said, scratching his chin in contemplation. “Okay then,” I replied while rubbing my temples, trying to wake myself fully. “So, uh, Bobby?” Nervousness crept up on me as I looked to the young boy.

“I-I apologize on behalf of my mommy hurting your little sister,” I stammered, causing the siblings to gasp in unison. “I mean, not like that, well, not directly,” I added quickly, realizing the misunderstanding. “It is just that, um, it must have been scary and stuff, and I did not want to scare you guys anymore.”

What the hell am I saying?!

Bobby and Alice stared wide-eyed as I began to wonder why they were staring so hard. “It is nothing to worry about, Adam. You do not need to apologize on our account, it is not a big deal or anything,” Alice reassured as she nodded with a gentle smile.

Her brother, on the other hand, was still in shock as he simply shook his head in disbelief. “N-no, no, it is not a problem,” he finally managed to utter. “It is just that seeing someone hurting my little sister was terrifying for both of us. We never imagined that such things could happen in real life, let alone to family members of ours,” he explained as he glanced at his younger sister.

Alice then smiled and giggled as she patted her older brother’s shoulder. “You are so cool brother!” She exclaimed as the two shared a hug before letting go. “Well, it is nice meeting you Adam, but we should probably return home now,” Bobby then turned towards direction of their home.

“Oh, okay then,” I replied while standing, “I guess I should be heading off then,” as I started to walk away but was interrupted by Bobby, “hey Adam?!”

Is Bobby calling me? I could not help but turn my attention back to him, “Y-yes?” I asked as the young boy ran to catch up. “Do you mind telling us where you live so we can invite you? We would like to get to know you more.” He asked with a nervous grin as he scratched the back of his neck.

I could not hide the surprise that flashed across my eyes as I blinked rapidly, “Um, sure, it is not a problem. It is right over there,” my finger points to the house, “that is, unless your parents have already told you about me,” I add as a thought crossed my mind.

Bobby shakes his head, “No no! Our mother and father do not need permission to make friends! They are really open-minded, actually. So, it is fine. If it is all right by you, that is,” he then glances at the direction of his little sister who was waiting patiently.

“It is totally fine,” I answer as he looks relieved and happy. “I am always here anyway, so feel free to come anytime.” The response caught both of their attentions as the siblings looked at each other. “Really?!” Both said at once. “Then, it is settled. We will be seeing you soon, maybe at night!?” Bobby replied as he waved at me.

“Okay, bye Adam!” Alice added as she gave a small wave.

“Bye,” I happily responded as I watched the pair of siblings leaving my sight. After they finally left, I could not help but smile at the thought of making friends. It has been quite a long time since I felt this way. “Friends, huh..” I quietly muttered to myself, looking down at the snowy ground.

“It feels nice,” I softly spoke as a chill breeze blew by. “But…I have to go home, mommy might be worried,” I continue as I look up and stare at the morning sky, “but it is worth it. To be able to meet someone new and talk to them. Even if it is just for a bit,” I then began to trudge towards the front door of my house, leaving a couple of snow footprints on the way. “Mommy, I made some friends today,” as I opened the front door.

I said as I walked inside, “mommy?” After closing the door, I noticed it was pitch black dark. “Mommy…?” as I called out to her. “Mommy, are you in here?” I then called for her as the darkness continued to grow deeper and darker, noticing the windows to have their curtains drawn shut.

“Mommy…” as I began to walk around the room trying to find her. As I turn on the lights, the brightness stings my eyes as I squint for a moment. “Mommy?”

For a moment, my eyes landed on the floor with blood splattered everywhere, and her nails digging on the body of a dead man lying in front of her. She was naked with blood on her skin as her lustful smile grew more from each bite of the man’s flesh, moaning in pleasure as I watched her from behind the distance.

The gruesome sight immediately made me want to go blank as the need to fall on the ground again had slowly overtaken me. Everything around me starts spinning until my lips opened, “Lilith?” Mentioning of her name had sent shivers down my spine when she inhumanely twisted her head to face me.

The sounds of her head twisting caused a loud cracking sound echoing throughout the room. Her hair disheveled as she stared right back at me with those cold, red, glowing orbs of hers. “You are late,” she said as a sinister grin crossed over her face.

Lights in the house flickered on and off, causing me to be dazed for a moment. My eyes were affected from the sudden flickering lights as the vision became blurry, forcing myself to rub them with my eyes.

As I closed and opened my eyelids again, the house was already filled with lights as my mother in front of me had her same dress and gentle smile with no sign of blood anywhere around her. The sudden sight and change of scenery had made me realize something. Was it one of my hallucinations again?

“Welcome home Adam!” Her sweet voice echoed in the air. “I am so glad that you are safe,” she added, walking to my direction before placing both hands onto my cheeks. “Your mommy was worried sick about you.” Her touch felt so warm and soft like a feather as it glided across my cheek. It was a strange sensation that I have never experienced before.

“T-thanks,” I replied, staring at her angelic face as I tried not to let a single teardrop from my eyes. “It is nice to be at home,” I muttered loudly, feeling a bit relieved as it feels though everything that happened previously was just a nightmare of mine.

“Of course, honey,” she giggled while taking both of my arms in her grasp. “Now that we are done here, why do not you come inside and rest a bit? We are going to have a wonderful dinner tonight,” she continued, leading me towards the dining room.

“Thank you,” I whispered while looking at the white table cloths as it covered the entire round wooden tables. She started to prepare our food as it was quite obvious that she wanted to spend a substantial amount of time with me.

After few minutes past, Lilith placed a plate full of steaming hot spaghetti in front of me. “Eat up,” she smiled while handing me a glass of water. “This is for your health,” she explained, smiling brightly. “Thanks,” I mumbled, starting to eat as the taste of spaghetti and meatballs tickled my tongue, making me feel more comfortable and relaxed.

Even though the food she gave me is new and at first unusual for me to eat, it is still better than eating rats from after making friends and trying bacon. It feels like I am already used to these new foods. “Adam,” she said, clearing the empty plates away. “You must be tired from all of that activity,” she laughed. “How about I bring you to your bedroom so you can have a good night’s sleep?”

“Okay,” I nodded, standing up from the chair and followed her out of the dining area as we held hands. When we walked in the hallway and then upstairs, entering to my bedroom. I wasted no time in jumping on the bed due to the growing fatigue.

She gently tucked me under the blanket and adjusted the pillow on top of the mattress. “Sleep tight my little angel,” she kissed my forehead. “We are going to be together again tomorrow,” she promised, giving a gentle smile.

Before Lilith decided to leave the room, I could not help but ask favor of her. “Lilith,” I murmured, still holding onto her hand tightly. “I know this may sound weird, but…”

“But what, dear?”

I swallowed the lump in my throat as I stared at her alluring red eyes. “I am having these constant nightmares that keep haunting me,” I confessed, feeling the cold sweat running down the back of my head. “They are so vivid and real that it is becoming difficult to tell what is real and what is not.”

Her facial features soften as she softly caressed my cheek. “Oh, sweetie,” she sighed. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“It is nothing much,” I muttered. “Just… just that it is always something nightmarish?” She then leaned forward, kissing my forehead once more. “It is okay, Adam,” she cooed, stroking the side of my face. “What is it that scares you the most about those nightmares you are having?”

As much I want to tell her, I do not know what will happen. So instead of revealing everything about these ‘blackouts’ I am constantly having from time to time, I decided to ask a different question that might give me some sort of relief, “I do not really want to discuss you about them yet, but could I ask you something that will help me relieve from these nightmares?”

Lilith’s once softened features turned into her gentle smile, wider and almost like it was forced, “Adam honey, I understand what you have been going through and how hard it must be for you. It is fine to be afraid of anything or anybody at this moment in your life. But do not worry because everything is going to be alright. Just remember to always of think me, and trust in me. You can count on me, Adam. Anything, anytime, anywhere. Okay honey?”

I nodded, smiling with gratitude and relief of having a supportive mother on my side. “Sure mommy!” I happily replied, which caused her to smile genuinely.

“That is my little boy,” Lilith giggled, playfully pitching my cheeks. “Now sleep well, and do not let those bad dreams bother you anymore. I love you so much, and I promise to protect you no matter what happens,” she said, leaving the room as my eyelids slowly began to close.

“Mommy,” I mumbled before drifting off to sleep, my sight of her disappearing from the darkness of the bedroom.
