BountyPedia

Some are adventurers; some are regular citizens of the galaxy; and then there are the really complicated ones.

Every government in the Galaxy has a different policy on information about its citizens. Additionally, every department of each government has a different system for what data they collect and how they format it.

No well-traveled citizen of the Galaxy has the time and the resources to trawl through all these different systems on a day-to-day basis -- not even with droids dedicated to the purpose.

The BountyPedia started as a haphazard conglomeration of data which the Bounty Hunter Guild threw together from easily accessible data on the HoloNet. The information listed in a bounty about the target and known associates was an obvious point of contribution; then members started to add information about ancilliary contacts: helpful bartenders at the cantinas of Spacer's Row, obstructive bureaucrats at Starport Authority office of a given Sector, which merchants sell what quality of quasi-legal weapons and ammunition, who among these merchants will then sell the information about what the bounty hunter wanted, who is worth talking to, who is a waste of a bounty hunter's time.

As more (highly subjective) information got dumped into this database, it became more unwieldy. Eventually the leadership of the BHG decided to put a few restrictions in place:

1. Each entry must have a name associated with something on the HoloNet.
   (In practice: this rule has become recursive. Many poverty-class or reclusive or misspelled entities exist on the HoloNet only because they exist in the BountyPedia.

2. The BountyPedia contains information about people and/or organizations which might impact a bounty. Not places; not things.

3. Definitely no advertisements. We have a specific forum for that. Use it.

4. Anybody participating in a flame war or editing war regarding entries in the BountyPedia will pay triple Guild membership dues and an extra fifteen percent commission off the gross for as long as the squabble continues, regardless of who started it and who shuts up when.

5. No one is getting paid for their contributions to the BountyPedia. However: individual contributors who prove knowledgeable on a particular topic will be given priority for bounties related to that topic.

6. Anyone who takes information on BountyPedia as one hundred percent reliable is too stupid to be in the Guild. Confirm your data independently, folks.

In the past several centuries, use of the BountyPedia has become so commonplace even among people who are not bounty hunters that the Guild created a separate Guild membership tier just for "junior contributor" access to it. This is not a cheaper membership than being an actual bounty hunter. Hence the duplication of some BountyPedia data on the HoloNet in general: but it takes time for updated information to be propagated through all the HoloNet hubs across the Galaxy.

Any character writeup in this section with the words "TEST CASE" in their summary are for testing and practicing as the gaming group learns how World Anvil works. Find something weird?
