Visser

Never again will this opportunity present itself. We can submit to the petty squabbles that doom mankind, or we can seize the day, and forge a path out of darkness and into the modern age. We are a planet of outcasts no longer.
Visser is a warm eyeball world, tidally locked to its parent star Visseran. The planet has a near 90 degrees axial tilt, with its north pole locked in tidal orbit with Visseran. Visseran is an M-Type Main Sequence Star half way through life. As a result, despite Visser's tidally locked status, the planet experiences temperature extremes at each of its poles. The side facing the planet is heated to the point of liquid water developing on its surface, followed by a ring of terrestrial features in which much of the planet's population lives, giving way to an endless ice sheet that makes up the night side of Visser.   Visser is a silicate planet with an iron-rich core with a large, overactive magnetic field that has caused many inexperienced or unprepared pilots to lose control and plummet onto the planet below. The planet is rich in rare minerals, which in turn fuels it's industrial capacity. As a result, Visser is a large producer of electronics and remains at the forefront of Confederate technological development.   The capital city of Visser is Tauriyanunan, which is also the largest city on the planet. It is built into an exposed lava tube, offering it protection from the planet's ambient radiation.   Visser has no formal system of government and is made up of countless anarchist communes, who adhere to Poincarism-Garcinism and have formed a Garcinist Anarchy. While it is part of the Confederate Systems of Lordania, it is largely politically irrelevant. The people appoint representatives, who convene in Tauriyanunan, which serves as a neutral city led by the CSL.   As much of the planet is uninhabitable, human control starts and ends in the settlements. Instead, the unoccupied wilderness is patrolled by various NGOs and Scientists. Criminal organizations are rumoured to hold power far from colonised land, and scavengers are drawn to the various ship impacts that dot the surface.   The Visser People, known as Vissite, are a mix of outcasts and socially divergent groups. Even before the collapse of the People's Republic of Lordania, Visser attracted a large number of people who belonged to various sub-cultures who sought the liberating policies of the pro-transhuman and pro-genemodding government. With the establishment of the Visser State, this number has only increased. Today, Visser is home to countless radical groups of political thinkers, and biotinkerers.

Geography

Visser is often represented in maps as a ringworld largely due to the only habitable part of the world being a ring of temperate land at the edge of the day/night split. The land is largely cracked and displaced, with mountains, rifts, valleys, and hills making up much of the available land. What limited flatland exists on the planet has been put to use as farms and cities. Even then, 90% of the planet is uncolonised, with only a few domed cities housing much of the population.

Fauna & Flora

The habitable zone is shrouded in near permanent twilight, leading to a heavy use of bioluminescence by living creatures on the planet. Grass on the planet is purple, and will feed itself by producing light. The planet, from orbit, is seen to glow at specific times, which is used to calculate time on Visser. Lifeforms on the planet have evolved an immunity to the planet's radiation, with some using it as a food source.

Natural Resources

The planet is rich in rare minerals such as gold and silver, but lacking in common lighter elements. As a result, while Visser needs to import quantities of food and material, it can export and out produce its competitors with relative ease. Much of this production came from the mass industrialisation projects undertaken by the People's Republic of Lordania.

History

Visser was formed several billion years ago. Despite being on the very edge of habitable, life managed to carve out a specific niche on the planet, resulting in a vibrant ecosystem that feeds on the natural ambient radiation, and releases it as beautiful bioluminescent features.   Humanity first arrived on Visser in 2228, where it became a colonial republic, and a home for many Lordanian natives with colonial spirit. The largest city on the planet, Tauriyanunan, was settled around this time. The cities of Tik'yek'sah and Simokau followed soon afterwards. During the Lordanian Economic Collapse of ‘53, Visser suffered relatively little as its electronics industry was in full demand, and Visser was relatively unconnected to the Lordanian Economy.   Under the People's Republic, Visser's wilderness became home to many bands of insurgents, who resisted the Unitarian Party's attempt to transform Visser into a fully industrialised refinery world. The Unitarians threatened much of the planet's native life, with many of the Visser people conscripted to build toxic factories and refineries. With the help of The Brotherhood, the Visser Freedom Front, led by their charismatic leader Vii'yeh, were able to overthrow the Unitarian Forces during the Lordanian Revolution.   During the Lordanian Interregnum Period, Vii'yeh and the Visser Council, with assistance from Jacques Garcin, transformed Visser into a Garcinist Anarchy. Modern Visser is under the protection of the CSL, and is a major source of immigration into the Confederate Systems.
