Tyannani

Tyannani is a continental world within the Lordanian Cluster, and once occupied by the Sar'Ket, an ancient spacefaring race      Tyannani is a small terrestrial world located in the inner regions of the Lordanian Cluster. At roughly 3/4ths the size of Earth, Tyannani is at the farthest end of the habitability scale, able to hold an atmosphere, albeit weaker than Earth's, with sea level having a similar pressure as a tall mountain. Visitors to the planet often complain of altitude sickness outside of the climate controlled cities, many of which run on their own internal pressure and atmosphere. The planet has one moon, Beacon, which has become the seat of the Confederate Systems of Lordania.
The planet is continental, with a large planetary ocean in the northern hemisphere, similar to Mars. Evidence suggests that the planet was once very Earth-like, with a large sea covering the entire planet, until an unexplained terraforming event froze tectonic activity into its current position, drained the oceans, and created the Pelari Range - largely considered the most important mountain range in the galaxy. Much of the planet is either a frozen desert wasteland, or covered in vast boreal forests, with 'trees' that are capable of thriving in the low pressure conditions. Because of this, large parts of the planet are unexplored and uncolonised.   The planet was once home to a spacefaring race known as the Sar'Ket, who are believed to be responsible for the terraforming event that led to the planet's current condition. It is not known when the species left the planet, but only their ruins remain, frozen in time due to the planet's lack of tectonic activity. Only the wind has eroded away their exteriors, leaving their decoration unrecognisable, but their maze-like interiors preserved. Only a handful of sites have been excavated, with the largest of these becoming the capital, Operstone City. It is known as the Palingenesiapolis, the 'Reborn City'. Major settlements are either built along the coast, or inside the mountains themselves, where they are able to build protective barriers to maintain pressure and climates similar to Earth.   The people of Tyannani are slowly reclaiming both the land, and the ruins that lie in them, creating a unique culture and sense of identity on Tyannani. Various parades and events have adopted the ancient traditions of the Sar'Ket as a way of continuing their history. While little is known of their actual customs, this has not stopped many interpretations from coming forward.

Geography

Tyannani's most defining feature is its large northern sea, which encompasses the entire northern hemisphere and Tyannani's north polar ice cap.   Much of the land south of this is covered in either cold deserts, or large boreal forests.  Because of this, the planet is largely unexplored and contains countless unnamed lakes and geographic features which have never been seen by human eyes.    Much of the southern hemisphere is taken up by the Pelari Range, which is the massive mountain range raised by the Sar'Ket and contains the vast majority of their mountain settlements.  It is the home of Operstone City.
The planet's structure is divided into Old World and New World archaeology, The Great Change occurred 3.2 million years ago, transforming the planet from a lush grassland world into a mountainous cold world.

Old World

What is known of the planet prior to the Great Change is that the planet was a water world. Shallow reefs and waters allowed for the development of complex life, which spread across the planet. Most of the evidence of this time comes from the sea floor in the northern hemisphere, which has remained largely untouched since the Great Change. Some time after the evolution of aquatic species, the planet was visited by the Sar'Ket, who were likely the cause of the terraforming which then took place.   The Great Change affected nearly the entire planet, in which the ocean was drained, mountains were raised, and the planet was transformed into a cold, alpine-like world. It is believed that this change caused most sea life to go extinct, with only the most hardy of deep see dwellers surviving, the descendants of which would continue to inhabit the planet into the modern day. While the cause of the change can't be proven, its coinciding with the arrival of the Sar'Ket suggests they are related. How this was achieved in such a short space of time is still unknown, and efforts to study the terraforming attempts have been met with failure.

New World

For many years following the Great Change, the planet's tectonic plates began to slow, after which the process was completely stopped. With no tectonic movement, volcanic activity under the surface created massive shield volcanoes that dot the landscape. With the planet seemingly more fit for the Sar'Ket, they established large colonial settlements within the planet's mountains. Large sprawling tunnels connected their mountain homes, and in turn they shaped the rock into giant monuments and temples. Their exterior decoration and edifices are completely lost to time, statues having been eroded by the wind and rain until they turned to dust.   This age of Sar'Ket control lasted roughly 30,000 years. Almost as soon as they arrived, they left, or vanished. Why this occurred, or what happened to the Sar'Ket is completely unknown. To date, Tyannani is the only planet discovered to have been colonised or visited by this species. Erosion and time has worn away much of their work, but the remains of roads and infrastructure have been found in isolated valleys. The largest structures still standing are large mountain dwellings, many of which have been converted to human settlements, particularly in Operstone City.
