The Docks
The waterfront docks are long dark and rotting; there is no business conducted or landings made anymore on the once prosperous New Jerusalem docks. The street between them and the warehouses is crowded and unlit at night, and, stuffed with junk and litter, it more resembles a forbidding alley than a street. Hoboes make temporary homes here.
Pete Roberts is a hobo and is frequently not in New Jerusalem, though he tends to be closed-mouthed about what he might be doing and where he might be when he’s out of town. When Pete is in New Jerusalem he normally stays down by the docks and consequently knows much about the activities of various criminals who are the sole people to use the Docks these days. Pete is kept quiet primarily through free booze, In return he passes things on to those who enrich him, but he also knows that violence is a potential outcome if he’s a problem.
Pete's only friend in the world is his dog Digger. Digger is a youngish Mutt who enjoys the life of the open road. A couple of years ago he met Pete, who shared some hash with him on a cold winter's evening, and they have been travelling companions ever since. Although Digger has seen some of the worst of what man and the world can do he still has a happy go-lucky demeanor, dealing with loss and pain by taking back to the open road and the next vista. He's been around a great deal and is originally from far away. Digger speaks with a decidedly Texan accent.
