Misery Island - Missituk River

Due to frequent flooding and marshy lands no civic development has occurred on the river island that sits in the middle of town. Visible from the Garrison Street and West Street Bridges, this small, uninhabited island is almost never visited. It is low and swampy and covered with thick undergrowth. On its eastern tip, visible from the bridge, are a series of gray standing stones covered with green moss. An altar, of similar substance, rests in the center of the smaller stones. The stones are said to be older than the Indians.   Superstitious peasants occasionally claim to see the witch, Hekeziah Massey, and her familiar, Browne Jenkinne, roam the island and that there is a secret cult that has some sort of ties to this place.   There are charges pending against a group of Missituk students accused of the un-Christian ritual slaying of domestic animals on the island. The dogs and cats were obtained from the local pet shop and were allegedly killed in a bizarre fraternity initiation stunt. The names of the accused are currently being withheld from the public by the police.   Currently staying on the island is Captain Silver, an old and respected English Sheepdog and Wise Dog. Having heard of reports about the animal sacrifices here through the barking chain, Captain Silver travelled to New Jerusalem from Worcester, having just finished up two years of work aiding the local animals after the devastating Worcester tornado. For now he is biding his time and laying low waiting to see what, if anything, he might catch scent of.
