New Year Resolution 2023 Challenge Big List & Stats
Here we are for a new reading challenge, and a new opportunity to make a big list and gather some juicy stats. I have to say, I forgot how long and how much work it was. But you folk seem to like that, and I found some unexpected mentions and beautiful RC articles, so it is all worth it!
There's a huge table at the bottom of the article. If you want to know whether you've been mentioned, search for your WA username (ctrl+F). Mistakes may occur, as I did everything by hand. Please notify me of any failed link/missing mention/misspell and I will fix it as soon as possible!
Note on the mention count: I consider a mention each time an article of an author is cited independantly. Which means some authors got up to 4 mentions in the same article. However, if the articles are grouped up, I consider it one mention. For example, a presentation of an author with three articles cited as example of their work is only one mention. Hope that clear up possible questions.
Stats!
Author stats
71 challenge articles
754 mentions
21 authors mentioned
Despite having more entries than last time (7 more to be exact), there have been a major decrease in diversity this time, with 81 less author mentioned, and 9 less mentions. However, around new 114 authors were mentioned this time, about half! "New" are authors that were not mentioned in the last Reading Challenge. I recognized some actual new faces in the community, and it is cool to see this much people.
Most mentioned authors
1st
Eternal Sage AmélieIS
32 mentions across 30 articles!
3rd
27 mentions across 27 articles!
Two familiar faces here, with Amélie taking up top, setting a new record! The top stats illustrate something interesting: this time around, people were more likely to mention one author once, which led to a higher diversity per article. That being said, TJ was very close to the third place, and the overall top authors are closer to each others!
Article stats
I decided to collect some stat on the mentioned articles too. This was a mistake, as it doubled the time it took to gather everything. I'll probably do it again.
Over 700 articles mentioned in total
547 unique articles
6 articles about Catoblepon
That's a lot of words! I only encountered one 404, where neither the world nor the author in the url was to be found. I can only guess that it was a world or a whole account that got deleted between the writing of the RC article and my passage. This is the link to the article if anyone wants to investigate it.
1st
12 mentions!
To be mentioned so often despite the incredible amount of great articles available, those three are certainly among the best WA has to offer, according to Anvilites!
My picks
Collecting this much challenge articles means I saw many different approaches and designs. Here are three that really stood out to me!
BladesWillFall
Oh, how this kind of layout is sweet when seeking information as fast as possible. Article title, author and world are clearly written and the boxes are small enough to fit many of them on one screen. This really was a bliss, found again in TJ's article
Nnie
Rather than a single article, Nnie made the choice of showcasing whole worlds instead. Putting the spotlight on one article while suggesting further reading is something I dig! And it comes with a pretty badge, which is even lovelier.
Chrispy0
My favourite article among all the 70. I love the unique take of the interdimensional wanderer who records their journey through the Anvilverse. The great design of the notebook to make this completely meta challenge immersive is awesome! And the article name and author were still easy to grab, my favourite! Also, love the way tooltips are designed, a true gem of an article.
The full list is below, with links to the challenge articles mentioning the author. If you discover someone who mentioned you go give them some love!
