Overall thoughts of 2022:
This 2022 has been really productive, i did a lot of articles, i achieved the gold badge in Summer Camp (something I've never thought I would achieve) and wrote a lot of words for WorldEmber and I also participated in many awesome challenges during this year. I also improve my skills in digital drawing and received a lot of feedback for my drawings and I'm extremely happy about that. I want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you, wonderful beings, anvilites that have supported me, liking my art, my articles and my world, you are the responsible for the fact that I am increasingly excited to write more articles. Ann issue i noticed is that i have to do my art before WorldEmber because doing it during the challenge takes a lot of time, fortunately I have great ideas for WorldEmber 2023 and I'll begin doing a couple of drawings for it in the near future.
But despite these great moments and successes there is still a lot to improve, and this 10 articles I’m going to talk about right now gave me a lot of inspiration for the new year!.
Articles review:
Avar: The High Elves by Kefkejaco
The whole series of articles of Kefkejaco about the elves of Niorath is fascinating, you all know I love elves! Kefkejaco wrote this as an species article, something that seriously made me realizing if i should write my elven ethnic groups in the species category instead of the ethnicity category. This article, as well as everything Kefkejaco writes, is very detailed, it talks about every aspect of the High elves, from their society, their religion, their culture. I struggle a lot to write very detailed ethnicity or species article, especially things as how religion and gender shape this ethnic group or specie. Like Yeia's elves, Niorath elves use a lot of magic, and aside for some magical technologies, creatures and schools, I’ve never touch the subject of magic among the elves and how it has shaped their society and government. Kefkejaco elves have inspired me to write more about magic in the elven world and to talk more about important aspects about my ethnic groups such as religion, architecture and the history behind the ethnic groups of my world. One final thing, it would be nice if i also add maps showing the regions where these ethnicities live as Kefkejaco did, I think that would be good in order to the reader to locate these peoples and understand how their environment shapes their cultures.
Irathian Funeral Pyres by PanthersEye
PanthersEye has created a really amazing article!. First of all, the amazing map describing Pyre material composition in each country, its awesome!! and the level of detail it has, its breath taking!. The Quotes are great and it feels like you are actually reading a passage from a real book something that is really immersive. As well as with the ethnicity and species articles I sometimes struggle to write detailed and interesting traditions, and most importantly related it to mythology or religion in a coherent way. PanthersEye does this perfectly, there are a lot of mythological and religious references that help you understand how this ritual is performed. I wish that one day I'll be able to write such an amazing and detail article. PanthersEye not only inspired me to write better tradition and ritual articles but also inspires me to write more about the religions of Yeia and the rituals related to them. Because in a pre-modern/medieval/ancient setting like Yeia religion influences every aspect of a society, from the way it thinks to its rituals, and Panthers article is just a wonderful example of worldbuilding related to this subject.
Kingdom of Arsavela by Strixxline
Strixxline article is also awesome, writing about kingdoms and realms in my world is usually one of the things that I enjoy the most, I like them to feel like real entities and Line achieve just that. Arsavela feels like an actual realm or country you can visit and she does one thing that I have never thought while writing my country articles, and it’s to talk about the different regions that form these realms like Strixxline does with this interesting kingdom adding also very nice pictures. Also, Line talks briefly in this article about the religion in Arsavela. Again, this is something that I also have to improve in future articles because very often any reference to religion in my realms is a tiny mention of the realm’s official religion in the sidebar. In conclusion, Strixxline article has inspired me in many ways about how i should write my organization and country articles in the future.
Inquisition by CrazyEddie
As the excerpt for this article says Nobody expects an Inquisition, and seeing an article about an inquisition is always nice! CrazyEddie has written very amazing articles this WorldEmber (
check out also his University of Hulwar article!).Not only the organization is really interesting but also the artwork and how Eddie has organize it (Hope it’s the right expression) with CSS. Something that this year I have to practise, because my CSS knowledge is pretty limited and I would like to put my art like Eddie does in his article. He also does a good job talking about the structure and the purpose of the organization, the latter is something my organization articles lack. The Shenanigans part deserves also a mention because it’s really interesting and funny, the concept of a musical band of inquisitors is great!.
Entering the shattered by Catoblepon
Catoblepon is another of the fellow anvilites that has created incredible articles this WorldEmber 2022, and, to be honest, i found it extremely difficult to choose one single article among all of Cato's amazing articles. I chose this one because of the amazing layout of this article, of course alongside its very interesting content! This is a wonderful way to introduce a new world, with its areas, religions, creatures and events that give a context to the world itself. And the thing that i admire the most are the colours that Cato uses for differentiate between different species, and floating islands, and how well organized it is. I wish I could do such well organized and easy to read articles like Cato does with such amazing CSS skills!
Death Pig by Mochimanoban
This WorldEmber Mochimanoban has written A LOT of wonderful articles, so Mochi, you've made it very difficult for me to choose one! I chose this one because Mochi's Death Pig article inspires me to write better species articles, not only because of how detailed the article is about this awesome specie but also for the wonderful drawing Mochi made! I enjoyed reading little details of Mochi's article like the fact that Death Pigs preserved their energy walking slowly and then use it all while hunting their prey. Things like that made a specie of your world feel like a living creature, and that includes also the very interesting debate about how owners of Death Pigs should behave.
Battle of Dragons Head by Cow2face
Apart from writing about realms, politics, ethnic groups ...etc, another of the subjects that really enjoy writing and reading are military conflicts! And this one by Cow2face is a really interesting one. I often believe that i write quite long conflict article, but Battle o Dragons head is a well organized and clear article that explains in a very clear way the prelude to the conflict, the sides that fought in this battle of the First Unification war as well as the battle itself and its aftermath. But I have to talk about one thing in this article that i really loved and is the fact that Cow2face included images from Rome 2 total war in the article. I'm such a big fan of the total war saga and yet I didn't think about using images from my total war campaigns for my articles, it’s such a cool idea!! and it’s something that perhaps I’ll add in the future specially for articles related to wars involving the green elves, the Blatians or the Oronai as i can use various total war games for recreating the armies of these realms.
Gauntlet by TJ Trewin
TJ's article is awesome, gorgeous, so original... and thinking the amount of effort and time he took for creating each one of the cards and thinking about the rules of the game and the Example Playthrough where you can actually see how the game is played... its just astonishing. The more i read it the more I want to challenge someone to a game of gauntlet, TJ, seriously you made a really stellar work!. I've never thought about writing a tradition article about a game, but your article has really inspired me to try writing about a game someone would play in Yeia, of course not as detailed as yours, but that would be a beginning!.
Gnomingen by Tillerz
We talked previously in Line article about realms, now it’s time to talk about settlements! and Gnomingen is a really cool one!. I like to write about settlements too but noticed I've a problem when i wrote my settlement article and it’s that I really struggle to write about the industry and the internal organization of my cities. Tillerz does an awesome job dealing with this problem talking about the forge inside the extinct volcano (the image is awesome too!) and also describing each district of Gnomingen in great detail. Tillerz even talks about the climate of the settlement, which is a cool idea and can help you understand many aspects of the settlement and live in the city, like, for example, perhaps is rain is very frequent during most of the year, the roofs of the houses and the sewerage are designed for dealing with this problem, or the settlement can have wells in order to store all this water in case of siege. It’s an aspect of a settlement that I’ve never talked about and reading Tillerz's article i realized that is really important when you are creating a settlement.
Symbiosis by Nnie
Symbiosis is a really interesting article and a very interesting concept and I really enjoyed reading about it!. The frequently asked questions is worth noting as it is very well structured and give a lot of information about the symbiont, i love this type of things in an article. Overall a very clear, well structure, interesting concept and great artwork by Nnie!.
Resolutions
I pretty much described what should i improve in my worldbuilding for this 2023, but, in short, this is what I need to improve:
- Improve my CSS skills in order to make my articles prettier and better organized.
- Write more detailed ethnic groups with special attention to religion, history and the role of magic
- Write better tradition and ritual articles and also talk more about the different religions in Yeia and their roles in society
- Write better and more detailed species article
- I promise to also make tons of art this year! and following the advice two awesome anvilites gave me in the discord chat, I'll also promise to make art not only for the challenge articles but also for normal articles, because as they said, not only the articles created for the challenges deserve all the attention and I'm pretty sure i can write awesome non-challenge articles with equally awesome art! It’s not a waste of time, it’s a way of improving my skills so, every drawing will be an step forward in my path to make beautiful, proportionated articles.
- Also regarding art, especially for WorldEmber 2023 I'll try to make the artwork for the articles a couple of weeks prior to the beginning of the challenge in order to have more time for writing.
- And finally about Yeia, there is a lot to improve, I'll also will redo some articles i made in the past and also, I'll organize and prepare my world for perhaps not this WorldAnvil Awards, but perhaps for the next one. With this I mean, keep adding more pins to the maps, finally talk about the continents of Yeia with their respective maps, because I’ve named them a lot, but perhaps their geography etc might still be quite confusing and I think that this two maps describing the continents is something essential that I should have in Yeia.
Thank you so much for your kind words on my article!! Yay for more art in 2023 :D you've got some excellent and achievable goals there - have an amazing year of worldbuilding!
I am still amazed by your awesome article TJ!! Also have an amazing and productive year of worldbuilding. Hope you also enjoy the art i'll make this year!
