New Years Resolution 2023

Reading List

Inspirations
To start, I have a rather default layout I tend to use. In some cases I go more complex, but even then those layouts have simple basics to them and can become rather dense. Now in these articles I see various ways to improve my layouts.   For example, using the special blocks, or images, or even fancy lines. These all have a central aspect to it: More empty space around the texts. This way, the articles might take more space on small screens, but will be far easier on the eyes.   By experimenting with these tricks, I can develop a few default building blocks for both fancy and simple articles. That way I can go all-out for competition articles, but also improve the looks of the small articles produced during Summercamp and WorldEmber.   But of course one shouldn't forget the most important thing: A narrative. Having a story told in an article is a good way to draw the reader's attention, plus it lets me cover the subjects with more enthousiasm and creativity. Prose bits, in-universe tone, small side-bits, these all help sell the story these articles are meant to tell.

2023 Plans
  • Valley of Plenty content expansion
  • Shadowrun-in-1-article css layout
  • Primers for all settings
  • Random prose bits

Resolutions

To Write Or To Write, That Is The Question
I must confess that I almost only worldbuild during competitions and challenges. Only rarely do I have inspiration outside them that leads to articles. And honestly, that is a shame. However, my AHDH means it's hard to write without procrastinating. So to manage this, what I need is a proper rhythm.   As such, I intend to schedule a fixed moment every two weeks where I dedicate a multi-hour block to just build whatever strikes my fancy. Put on an inspirational song and write, no matter whether it's an article, some prose, or even CSS. Just focus and keep moving.
Orc orc orc, you write with a fork!
I want to run games in my PF2 setting, but that requires fleshing it out more. Additionally, I need a worldmap and some battlemaps. (A dedicated timeslot for mapmaking might also be a good idea...) So I should put up a first mapdraft and start doing a Chronicle with all the things I wrote during WorldEmber.   Additionally, I wrote stuff during Spooktober and Mapvember, while I also did old to-be-replaced content during Summercamp 2021. That's content that would partially fit nicely with the new layout I used during WorldEmber 2022. So it's *shudders* editing time...
If it looks like a fancy duck, it must be witchcraft
My friends, it has often been said that I like styling. My friends, I like styling. No, friends, I love styling! Seeing fancy tab-layouts makes me wonder, because as fun as my one-pager Shadowrun layout is, it's also a lot of work. And connecting various articles is a bureaucratic nightmare.   So if I take a tabbed layout, I could fit a single scene in a tabbed structure. A floating sidebar means easily navigating to the scenes. Adding a background image would let me have something other than empty space. This way I could fit an entire Shadowrun, which can easily be five thousand to ten thousand words, in a single easily-navigatable article.
The number two is lonely as the odd prime out
I have metas and primers for some of my settings, but many I never got around to writing one. Yet as we know, your meta and primer also help inspire you. So I want to get around to writing down more of those. Explain to myself and others what these settings are about.   By writing down what I'd like to cover in a story or a campaign, I can reignite my own inspiration as well. Hopefully that will lead to more content and even prose for all the ideas I have floating in my head.
