A new month, a new year, and a fresh reminder to back up all of your worldbuilding progress from WorldEmber! :D

Good morning friends, it is a new month, a new year, and a new opportunity to get in some great habits!
This is your reminder to back up your worldbuilding!
  • go to your API keys https://www.worldanvil.com/api/auth/key
  • create and copy a key to your clipboard (or reuse the one you've already been using for backups) ...you have been backing up, right?
  • go to your world config, click Open tools & advanced actions
  • open the export world panel and click Export world
  • which will take you to here: https://toolbox.soullink.docker.worldanvil.com/backup/form
  • fill out the form and paste your key, then click Start
  • it might take a little while, so leave the tab open while it does its thing (mine took 15-20 mins) - the page will update with a notice when it's done!
  • check your email, congrats! that .zip is now in your Google Drive!
  • download the .zip and back it up in a secondary location (like Dropbox or something)
  • bonus step: set a recurring reminder for next month!

The History of Language in Vitallia

Hello everyone! Recently, I've been fascinated with language creation and analysis in the fantasy genre. I wrote an article with the history of language in my world, Vitallia! You can check out the link below if such things interest you!

Just earned the 10K WE badge. On to the 25K!

Literally took the day off to rest and relax by doing some world-building! Super happy to be knocking out stubs this year. Especially thankful to the #WorldAnvil team to be chosen for the Advent Calendar, not once, but twice! Here's the article that I'm happiest with so far. What's your favorite? Share it and I'll read and comment on it!
    Can Opener
    Character | Dec 19, 2023

The serial killer known as the Can Opener specializes in murdering soulforged, golems, and other constructed sophonts. It is rumored to be the avatar of something far more sinister.

An October Update with Crystals, Stubs, and Tooltips!

Normally I share these journal updates to my author profile rather than the global feed, but I wanted the whole community to get to enjoy these special treats!
The last few months have been beyond busy, but I finally had some time to get creative this month. I'm so thrilled to be back to working on Solaris.
I've started a full rework of the Crystal Technology of Solaris, polishing up my concepts for the crystals and how they work. I want to find something that feels just magitech enough, in the sense that it both feels like magic and tech.
We also got a bunch of stubs written as preparation for WorldEmber later this year. My favourites are Astrallite Chained Sun Caduceus and Merchant Prince.
Anyways, I promised treats! I've finally finished the long-awaited guide to Styling Tooltips and Excerpts! It talks you through how to style them on your own, but also has a couple of pre-styled tooltips for those who don't want to fully delve into the CSS witchcrafts.

Need Images for Articles this SummerCamp?

Here on WorldAnvil, we know how important it is to decorate our articles with art that we have permission to use, but I see lots of people aren't sure where to look for such things! Well, I made a promise on my stream that I would put together a list of FREE art and image resources that are available that could assist with this little problem.

Linky: Images for Worldbuilding... for Free!
I know I'm not the only person who plans to rely less on AI for sourcing images, so I hope that these resources help at least some of you beautify your articles, without fear of copyright issues or ethical dilemmas! ❤   Happy (and Feral) SummerCamp season, friends!   #WorldAnvilTips #SummerCamp2023 #SummerCamp #TheOwlworks #ImageResources

End of World Ember and #TuesdayFiction

I have to finish one more article to get to 10k! I have my idea, writing it next. However, first I posted some articles to Twitter with the #TuesdayFiction hashtag! It is easy to do and helps practice marketing - marketing gets easier if you have a routine. Even if you are just writing for yourself or running a game help us promote World Anvil.
Sample Tweet: Great #worldbuilding article by one of my favorite authors. Gege16 is putting it all together in a book about an epic adventure. #tuesdayfiction is a chance to get a sneak peek. #worldember #WorldAnvil Ulan Shan Kov's Kremlin

    JOIN WORLDANVIL THROWBACKTHURSDAY TODAY!

    Hello everyone,

I wanted to remind you all that today is Thursday. This means it is time for another Throwback Thursday. To take part, you post one of your older articles on Twitter using the hashtag #WorldAnvilTBT. The article does not have to be from long ago. If you are new here on World Anvil, it can even be an article you wrote last week.

The idea behind #WorldAnvilTBT is to make it less scary to post our work on Twitter. Others post under that hashtag too, so you are not alone. The second reason I started this tag several months ago is to give some love to our older articles. Often we focus on our newer work, while the older articles sit there almost forgotten. If you have been wanting to post your work on Twitter, but something is holding you back, this is your chance! As an example, I'll link my tweet from today here.

Your task if you choose to accept it: make a tweet using the hashtag #WorldAnvilTBT linking to an article you wrote in the past. You can also @ WorldAnvil for a chance to get a retweet from them.

I'm looking forward to reading your articles! And don't forget, we do this every Thursday.

    Until next time, Rynn

    CALL FOR #TUESDAYFICTION

Amazing news there were 19 tweets on #TuesdayFiction last week. It is getting enough visibility that other people out in the world are using the hashtag in their tweets now! 15 of the tweets were World Anvil articles, go us!
Some of the people that posted tweets with us had over 20,000 followers. The potential impressions went from 6400 the previous week to 800000 last week - I'm using trackmyhastag.com to get an estimate. To get a bigger share of those potential impressions be sure to like World Anvil posts and retweet (recommend retweeting 3 based on what I have heard about the algorithm, do more if you want of course!)
There are already a couple of tweets up today but let's get to it! and Thanks!
My Tweet: More #TuesdayFiction delivered to you from the Anhult Wildlands. They say Ardelis' Arrows never miss. This group of hunters and farmers took on the job of protecting the forest. What I'm Reading! Issue 33

Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 33!

Busy, busy week. But! We made it to the end! There really ought to be a badge for that.

There's been so much going on, and its made the time fly by. Which, is a good thing, I suppose. For me that means I've been busy and hopefully productive with what I consider "forward momentum" on my current projects.

How about that idea of World Anvil Throwback Thursday from Rynn19? That sounds pretty interesting. If you've missed what she said about it... here, I'll quote...

Apart from those articles I am trying something new on Twitter, and you can join me if you like! Starting last week I began a WorldAnvil ThrowbackThursday. The intention is to bring older articles to the attention of newer readers. And to give ourselves a reason to look back on those old articles and perhaps give them an overhaul if needed. If you would like to join, use the hashtag #WorldAnvilTBT to post one of your own older articles on Twitter. It doesn’t have to be years old. Just something you wrote a while ago and are proud of.
    — Rynn19

I might give that a go. I've a few I've written that I'm pretty proud of and don't mind showing off. I'm not all that active on Twitter, but I might toss something up for Throwback Thursday on Twitter, Tumblr, and so on. How about anyone else?

Also... How are you doing? Got forward momentum going on your own projects?

In between juggling the proverbial chainsaws, I've also tried to catch up on my reading. So, without further delay!

Here is the current crop that REALLY stood out for me! Enjoy!

    The Road Goes Ever On

Once again, I grabbed my satchel and set out on the digital road to find some unexplored countries in the Anvilspace. As always, the Anvilspace didn't disappoint!

      The Chromaverse
      Dichotomy
      Four Quadrants

    And hark! A Manuscript!

This one is a solid and interesting read. I really enjoyed the setting and imagination here. BUT! A word of caution. It's dark fantasy, so there's some blood, violence, etc. Step carefully.

    May Update

    Hello everyone,
May has been a bit of a struggle for me. I finished one article though about the Seven Ageless Towers of West Eghea. It is an overview of all the towers and another glimpse into the Forgotten. Speaking of the Forgotten, I have put that article aside for now. I was barely making any progress and decided it might be a good idea to come back to it another time.

    Ageless Towers
    Building / Landmark | Oct 5, 2021

Seven towers spread along the edge of the West Eghean continent. They are Ageless, over hundred-thousand years old, and were constructed by the Forgotten.

I also added new lore to the Ruins of Serralon. This new lore includes the Eight Tower of the Ageless Tower article, but it also makes the ruins more connected to the Forgotten. And gives me an opening for potential discoveries about these ruins in the future.

    The Ruins of Serralon
    Settlement | Jul 19, 2023

Ruins of an ancient city on the southeast coast of West Eghea. It is surrounded by Mystwood.

Let’s see if we can grow this thing and bring more exposure to our community! My #WorldAnvilTBT this week is a small article about a peculiar tradition in ghynzuan households. I still love it a lot.

    The Ninth Guest
    Tradition / Ritual | Jun 3, 2021

A peculiar and sometimes unsettling tradition reserved for special occasions.

Let me know what you have been up to this past month. Has your May been productive, or a struggle like mine?
      Much love, Rynn
