Crisis of the Fey age

The series of conflicts that raged across Undinia in the early Fey age, were connected to the planer and magic instability caused. Though the various theatres and events are not listed here in strictly Chronological order of events, they are listed in order of resolution.  

Prelude

Several events built up that would come into play during the crisis, these are listed in date order below.
  • The Forgotten Past: The Sage opens up a portal to the First Lower Ring in an attempt to find a new source of power.
  • End of Forgotten Past: The oldest eight Greatwyrms band together with Draco and seal away Sardia, the ruby dragon.
  • Ancient era: A priestess of Qruzsoi makes a pact with a spider queen, opening a tear to the Demonweb at Sapphire Gate.
  • End of the Ancient Era: The Phervian open a tear from the Phervia, trying to close it behind them, several monsters come through after. planer research is considered a sin.
  • -9 Rebel: A strange ship arrives from a different plane for the first time, later found out to be the Ghost Ship from Lantria.
  • 0 Rebel: Phervian Lich Tralden opens a portal to the void.
  • 30-61 Rebel: Wralin starts researching the interplanar connections with Undinia after sensing Sardia's prison, figuring out how to permanently close tears.
  • 61 Rebel: Battle of Shadowbrook, Wralin is turned into a statue from his own magic, Severity injuring Raviwrar.
  • 70 Rebel: Shieker project started using long-forgotten research.
  • C.289 Devine: A nymph from the Fey Mist slips through, causing several disappearances. This is stopped by Fylkir Hrengra.
  • C.124 Blood: The Archlich Vörös opens a tear to the Nether to try and repel the northern crusade.
  • 132 Blood: Geneviève Basqar, hearing of the link between a glade in the Dread Forest and the Fey Mist goes and makes a deal with a strange being, Granting her true immortality.
  • 1000 Chroma: The statue form of Wralin is broken by a group of kobolds, allowing the Soul Stone to be stolen.
  • 0 Fey: Trying to reopen the tear to the void to heal Raviwrar, a group of Kobolds are intercepted by a small party that, through the miss use of a wish spell, ripes open every tear fully and destabilizes magic, starting the crisis.
 

Magical chaos

The first sign to the world at large was the sudden and intense magical buildup. This caused over ninety percent of spell focus' to explode, killing the majority of magical scholars alive at the start of the fey age. The market at Crowharrow also, due to its specialization in magical artifacts, burst into flames and burned for over one hundred years. This was also the breaking of the first seal of the Cry of Destruction.  

Ship of the damned

Tralden, in his search for power and completing his ritual from the start of the Rebel age. He goes under the name Metis and starts researching the tears and magical instability, ending the Cult of the Deep and finding an ancient lab in the process.  

Assault on the Kingdom of Arpad

The opening salvo of the Northern war and the second indication to the world at large that something was wrong. At around 50 fey, undead that had been pouring out of the now fully open Nether tear, entered the kingdom of Arpad, causing the various defense forces of the kingdom to scramble to organize. over the next few decades, Cities and towns fell like dominoes, the undead numbers growing with each victory. The Cities of Targvisk and Vragh Arpad were the last to fall in 112 and 118 fey respectively. The forces of the Kingdom were all but wiped out with only a few hundred fleeing south to join forces with the other Paladins.  

The following events take place in 122 fey

While roughly in the correct order there is some overlap.  

The Burning Forest

Due to the instability of Magic, Lokz accidentally opened a tear to the Fire part of the Conflux in the Dreadforest on 12 Ikhael, allowing Zumil to walk through. This event leads to the creation of the Burning Forest. More groups from the Fire Conflux became interested in this new opening, eventually coming to a head at the start of the month of Zabar when a group of Fire newts attacked a Fire giant expedition.   This led to fighting on the fire Conflux side, spilling over into the Undinia side on the 15th. Three days of fighting broke out with the various groups trying to get a foothold while Zumil, his fire hydra, and Miodulth drove back through the portal. A Fire giant broke through and attacked Boulon only to be killed by Grunkle's Angels who raced to the main fight. Allowing the Fire Salamanders to settle at the Volcano the combined group drove the other back while Lokz closed the tear.  

The Shrieker horde

A group of farmers found an ancient mausoleum on 20 Ikhael, causing the Illthid creations to be unleashed onto the world. This led to the farmland of The White City and Shadow's port being burned and Grunkle's Angels being asked to look into it. In early Rapha, the group encountered and destroyed the horde, though a few ruminants of it still existed in the area they were no longer a proper threat.  

Shifter warhost

Through the first half of Rapha, shifters started leaving their locations and heading north. The reason was discovered on the 19th when a massive Shifter army passed Drakai and headed for the northern conflict.  

Raviwrar's Turning and the Purge of the Mire

On 30 Ikhael a group of Dragonborn performed a heist on Targvisk to grab a Divine Elixir that had been found. This was to cure Raviwrar and get him into the fight. One of the groups, however, was an agent for the Free Draconians and corrupted the elixir turning Raviwrar undead. This led to the purging of the Mire where he slaughtered every living thing.  

The Fifth Conclave

A Phervian elder called the 'last Conclave' to try and avert disaster. With information coming out of exactly how bad things had got, it was decided everyone would help the frontlines where they could.  

Battle of Voidcape

Considered the turning point of the conflict, It saw every, still living, greatwyrm fight to defend the town. Though the town was lost so was the undead horde. During the fighting, Metis was also 'killed' causing his undead to crumble and the wish spell twisting and overloading magic to cease. The South had seemingly been secured.  

Rivell Civil war

The Rivell Civil War kept Rivell out of the greater conflict at the start with only The Purple knights offering aid, After this ended however first Tourlu forces then Rivellian forces as a whole arrived to assist in the fighting in the North. It should be noted that the forces involved in this conflict are not listed in the combatant lists of this one.  

Sardia's Proposal

On 14 Zabar, the entirety of Undinia received a dream from Sardia while they slept. It offered wealth and status to anyone who could become her champion. To do so they must reach her chambers within the Colosseum of Blood, though neglected to mention her champion was still alive, leading to many adventures, vagabonds, smugglers, and pirates rushed to claim this prize, only to find death. Of those that did escape, many had contracted Blue Fury, leading to a major outbreak over the next few years.   It should be noted that Lyzzaru did attempt to stop the spread by destroying infected ships she found. It should also be noted that Lord Chiko Li died from the first outbreak.  

Borderlands at war

With the fall of Frostmourn, the undead horde of Vörös marched into the border plains in late 119 Fey. They were met with the full force of the remaining inquisition, Kingdoms of Akoom, and Silver army. These would be later joined by the Shifter Horde, Purple Knights, Draconian forces, and finally Rivellian and Basq forces. Despite this, the forces were slowly pushed south, suffering major losses. In 12 Zabar, 122 Fey the losses to the Inquisition had taken its toll, leading to the disbandment of the organization.   Connected to this was a massive logistical effort by the Silent Lake cities, using the white fleet. as goods funnelled into the war zone via High Guard and Drusk. This flood of supplies kept the war effort going long after it should have collapsed. Things coming to a head at the Battle of Hightown. Though the City was severally damaged by the undead horde, it still stood with Vörös being defeated, seemingly ending the war of the North.  

Lord Ashare's Invasion

On 6 Kasdiel the tear seals within the tower of Crowharrow finally broke unleashing a seemingly endless horde of Imps. The city streets run red as they slaughter the few remaining citizens. Various armies then fanned from Crowharror as the cities of the Silent Lake marshalled their defences, desperately trying to hold the Imps back. One Force heading north met resistance from the Sea Elves and Grunkles Angels, being stopped just outside of Arrn Raver.   The army heading west used borrowers to break into Sorrol, leading to the slaughter of the goblins within and opening the way to the Underempire. Part of this army stayed above ground only to meet the demonic force of Tarverloth and Rosewater guard just east of Rosewater. Another force went east moving towards the white city, lead by Ashare himself with the goal of destroying the white city. A second outbreak of The blue fury also landed in the white city causing chaos.   During this time Grunkle's angels travelled to the endless battlefield to enter Crowharrow through the tear and close the portal, re-killing the Demon Prophet in the process. They charged after and challenging Ashare. The battles of Rosewater, the Underempire and the White city all taking place at the same time as the fight between Grunkle's Angels and Ashare, all ending in an Undinian victory.  

Final tears

Little is known about the closing of the next three tears what is known is that through Kasdiel the Angels would travel to the isle of the lost to battle Lilsea and seal the tear there, speak with the Phervians about their tear, battle The Scourge and Tralden in Voiddoll to seal the void tear. Both the First lich and Zumil stepping in to help when needed. In early Penem with The Keeper of Stilharbour's blessing the Angels snuck into the Black Ziggerot to acquire the brain matter of the mad Phervians, leading to a confrontation with Lagrigoyi's bane, and preceded to seal the Phervian tear before heading to the Gem Sea.   After a few early confrontations with the Ghost ship led to the Battle of the Isles closing the final tear and for many ending the Crisis.  

Warnings, political strife and Preparation

During Ashare's invasion children started being possessed the spirit of The wanderer, speaking lines from the Cry of Destruction, this continued for a few weeks before stopping as quickly as it started.   The following events happened in the aftermath of Ashare's invasion, due to the events that 'ended' the Rivellian civil war, Stephan was taken back to Rivell for a month to sort the mess out after a stand off between the Rivell and White Navies. The damage to the white city combined with the Blue fury lead to the upper city being sealed to control this contamination for a time.   With the Undinia's death toll now the highest of any event in recorded history Grand Duke Charles organized a year's beginning celebration to discuses next steps and how to end the crises once and for all, sending Grunkle's angels to gather those needed to protect the final seal, this led multiple war leaders to argue about who would lead the united army. Stephan would return to Rivell to help with the political conflicts rising.   During this time the angel's would recruit Zumil, Vörös, Lisa, The First Lich, Eva, Malkav, and Tatiana before talking to the Wanderer and discover nine instead of eight pillars would be needed for the ritual. They would add Lagrigoyi and Miodulth. During the year's begining ball Raelgil Sepa Presented Charles with Moon Sabre, putting the conflict of who led the united army to rest. Sardia would also attempted to assassinate Eva during the ball, as she was suspected to be casting the ritual due to the belief she was the strongest non-draconic spell caster. The attempt was quickly thwarted by the First Lich, with Zumil destroying the Shell shardia was using as quickly.  

Battle of the Sardian Ruins

The true end of the crisis, it saw an amphibious attack upon the island by armies from across Undinia. 'Defending' the island was hordes of Blue frenzied and undead gladiators, though these were less defenders and more aggressive beasts. The strategy was for the Shifters, supported by Paladins, would land first creating a beech head, allowing other forces to land. The Rivellian cavalry would then land and push towards the coloseum, helping create a way for Grunkle's Angels who would transport the First Lich and Zumil for the ritual. Once the sealing ritual started the greatwyrms would deal with Sardia, the angels dealing with the Champion.   During the fight things would take a turn for the worst with several Shifter tribes being wiped out, and Sardia proving she could take on her children, even killing Jindrai and severely injuring Girliorth. The Angels' themselves would be pushed to their limit, surviving due to ancient spell scrolls granted to them by the Wanderer, allowing Darr to Kill the beast. Draco would also reappear to assist in battle against Sardia, working with Zezhaunth to seal her, Draco leaving again after the battle.   In the Aftermath of the battle László would resurrect Jindrai, however at the expense of Jindrai's draconic power, turning him mortal. Darr would be proclaimed Champion of Undinia, and Lokz would be made lord of the burning forest.  

Aftermath

With major depopulation and damage to farms across Undinia led to a fw hard years in the aftermath of the Crisis, with many places turning inwards. Though this would not last with every group become more tolerant and accepting of both Shifters and Changelings. Grunkles angels would go their different ways, all honoured for their achievements and sacrifice.   Vörös and László would co-found the kingdom of Feny in Frostmourn to end the cycle of hate. The practice of necromance became more regulated, with laws around what bodies could be raised and what undead could be used for. Though Vupeiss would oppose this, both the First Lich and Vörös would sign, even rumoured to have drafted it. New Draconia, having lost very little in the fighting starts expanding in the now empty space agian, though it's internal struggles means its still unable to take on any serious kingdom still, and the paladin presence is still too unified for it to take on.   The breaking of trade across the Gem sea leads to an increase in privateers, smugglers, and pirates. This prevents any one nation getting a monopoly on trade, increasing the wealth of all. A trade defensive pact is set up, with each Gem sea city providing ships to protect trade in the region.   Lacertillia, due to it's actions in the battle if the Isles, voided the Treaty of Lacertillia. combined with the destruction of it's fleet led to the island city losing it's dominance over trade, going into a doom spiral in the decades following. This was made worse by many powerful and wealthy families leaving the city. By 150 Fey Lacertillia was a shell of it's former self.   The mire of lost souls would finally stop growing, leading not only a resettling of the foothills of Ered Mithrin, but an increase in the living tribes within the mire itself. However a new blight that twists the plantlife and nature itself will start to grow from Voiddol.   The shifters would raid the south less, while the 'exiled' tribes would still raid New Draconia. These tribes would also be accepted back into Shifter culture fully, with the Goregrinder tribe reaching legendary status, much to the chagrin of the Crystalline tribe. Trade posts would settle along the coast leading to a few tribes to settle the coast and engage in trade.   Under Stephan's advisment, Rivell would enter an age of advancement, perfecting several new architectural, metallurgical, and farming techniques. He would also unite the titles of Basq and Rivell, making Rivell the sitting ruler and Basq the consorts title. Iti's influence within Rivell would lessen, but would still be a pivotal figure with her knights.   With the silent lake hardest hit by the crisis, many of the city states crumbled, with three spreading influence. The Empire of Shadow in the west, based out of Rosewater and Tarverloth, would expand via dominance and then start to settle around the coast of the Mire. The White City would build up it's trade posts and secure the land around it creating the Celestial league, while Drake Vil would gather allies to combat the other two creating the Draconian Federation.   Most of the Greatwyrms returned to their lives before the Crisis, with Draco bidding a final farewell to Undinia, and flying south. Both Vighoi and Raegil Sepa however seemed to be waiting for something. Many of the greatwyrms would disappear into myth and legend, though the royal bard of Rivell would always seem to have emerald eyes, and a sapphire shape was spotted in various parts of the Gem sea and Shifter wastes as Darr disappeared.   The knowledge found through the crisis would permeant though centres of learning sparking expeditions to find these ancient sites, like the Expedition to the first sanctuary, also to prepare for the next time Stephan, László, and Jindrai would each independently form an adventures guild before combining them.
