Vörös (Ve-res)

Archlich Vörös Miklós, Of Hollakő (a.k.a. King of death, The Shade, Archlich of Frostmourn)

The Archlich of Frostmourn, and devoted enemy of the Paladins, Vörös' life is mired with tragedy and heartache, which he wishes to rectify in undeath.

History

Early life

Born the youngest of four sons to a farmer. Vörös never really aspire to much in his early life. Growing up in the small village of Hollakő, Vörös was a sickly child, seemingly suffering from every virus that passed through. This resulted in him reading a lot, and taking a keen interest in life magic. This took a darker turn when the local lord drafted his oldest brother to fight the encroaching empire, resulting in his brother's death. Vörös took an interest in studying the Veil of life and death and summoning the past spirits.

Plague and war

In Vörös' early teens, a plague came to the village, killing many of the citizens, While he was able to protect himself, both his parents died to the strange infliction. What was worse was no sooner had the illness passed than both his remaining brothers were drafted into the ongoing conflict.   With no one left to look after the farm, Vörös was forced to use his magic. To the horror of many other villagers, he put souls into the plague victims using newly learned spells. In their fear, they drove Vörös from the village. Not long after this, news arrived of his brother's death.

life of adventure

Finding a small group of adventures led by a Goliath spiritualist, Vörös joined them in clearing out a hag from the local forest. The party took Vörös under their wing, going on multiple adventures. The wounds of the past started to heal, even found love with the Kalastar cleric of the party.   In sixty-six Blood, the group was hired by the paladins to investigate the Ruins of Sardian after their raid to flush out the pirates. Despite Vörös' objections, the group entered the ruins with a promise of riches and glory. What they found was death as some creature attacked them. Vörös was able to escape, the only one of the party, the rest either dying in the 'fight' or succumbing to wounds after. Once again Vörös was left alone, and when he tried to petition the Paladins, they dismissed him without listening.

Lichdom

Wandering the far north alone, Vörös was found by a pale-skinned elf. This elf showed him the secrets of necrotic magic, promising vengeance on those who betrayed him. This was in fact Vupeiss, who saw the potential, though he never revealed that to Vörös. in early ninety-seven Blood, Vörös launched an attack on Hollakő, using the souls of those butchered to create his phylactery, a ruby blood drop necklace.

Rivals of hatred

For the first decade, Vörös had unparalleled success, pushing the Paladins of Akoom back to the borderlands. Other necromancers came to his banner, to protect their home. What made the situation more delightful was when he started to raise the paladin's own fallen against them.   This changed when a small young Tiefling joined the conflict. This Imp seemed to have a hatred that rivaled even Vörös', and killing his undead comrades seemed to not only unphased him but please him. Vörös first major defeat came at this rival's hands at Ghost Pass, where his entire army was held for an hour, allowing a relief force to appear.   In 110 Blood, this Imp led a small force into Frostmourn, in a battle just north of what is now Targvisk, Vörös was killed by the Imp. When he finally restored his body he realized his war was already lost, the Imp had taken control of the region. He took out the Imp's squad one by one but never could kill the Imp itself.

Sin

Realizing that he couldn't win only by using this world's dead, Vörös traveled south to the greatest area of undead in the world. Finding a tome by Traldin on how to open planer breaches, Vörös traveled back to the far north to cast the spell into the land of the dead itself. By his return, the Imp was Prophet and Frostmourn had been fully subjugated.   The ritual was interpreted, allowing only a shadow to be pulled through and given instruction. Vörös was killed again as his shadow disappeared. Vörös spent time through the ages gathering strength and living a simple life in villages around the north, At some point in this period he married Lisa, daughter to Lilsea, giving her his phylactery. When Rivell rebelled, it was Vörös who encouraged Frostmourn to do the same, but after went back to farming, seemingly finding peace.

Crisis

At the opening of the Fey age, Vörös sensed the opening of the Nether tear, as undead flooded into the world, he took control and directed them. At first, all was fine but he suddenly pointed the whole force south on a murderous spree. Dark whispers had convinced him Pailron was to blame for all the tragedy in his life.   What's more curious is the Tiefling horn he used as a spell focus. Vörös led his army through the kingdoms of the north, only really being slowed at the cities of Vragh Arpad and Targvisk in Frostmourn, though things slowed as he entered the Borderlands as the whole world seemed to rally against him.   Leading his command squad through the gates of Hightown, he was met by Grunkle's Angels. A fierce battle broke out with László eventually landing the 'killing' blow on Vörös. While reincarnating in his lair by his wife, Grunkle's Angels showed up, choosing to spare his life on the condition his wife became his jailor.
