Rivell Civil war

Though part of the greater crises of the Fey age, the Rivell civil war is sometimes not counted as part of the crisis as it wasn't caused by the tears. The involvement of Grunkles angels and the fact the cause was the machinations of Geneviève Basqar, the original sinner of the Fey tear, however, links it to the wider conflict.

Prelude

Tensions between the Duchy of Basq and the Rivellian royalty are provoked by Geneviève Basqar, who claims the Rosa dynasty is illegitimate and her descendant, Duchess Catorine is the legitimate ruler as she's descended from both the Tousor and Basqer dynasty, with The Purple knights seemingly distracted by the larger crisis, the opportunity seemed right to push Catorine's claim.

Opening moves

The war started on 18 Rapha, 122 fey with a surprise Basq attack on Fang Fort. This attack ultimately failed, forcing Basq to rethink its strategy. As Queen Anora called her Dukes to arms, Teaxerr, Tourlu, and Orslon all claimed neutrality. The forces of Royvaux however quickly mustered, deploying their forces to weak points. Basq forces launched an attack on the Orslon coast, destroying most the countryside. but forcing the Duchy to side with the Royalists, Tourlu also took a more defensive stance positioning its army at the Orslon pass. A fake Jack of Hearts showed up to destabilize the north and get them to join the Basq side by killing the current Duke of Tourlu 'under the Queen's name'. Leading to the new Duke Charles of Tourlu to head south. The battle of Orslons took place on 30 Rapha, with a royalist minor victory, though this seemed to quieten things down for a moment.

Escalation

Manipulation by Geneviève led to a peasant revolt in Reuile, forcing it to look inwards and be neutral. On top of this, The Basq Gem fleet attacked the Rivell royal Navy while it was docked at Poisseau, leading to a desperate battle that saw Zumil's Wraith joining the Royalist side, and showing exactly what it was capable of. All of this was to mask the Basq double operation of a pincer attack on Fang Fort and an assassination attempt on Charles Hrengain, framing the queen. This attempt was thwarted by Grunkle's Angels, leading Charles and so the North to declare for the Royals.   All of this was just a prelude to the destruction of Fang Fort, where in the heat of battle Basq forces placed two carts full of Gdooble oil next to the walls and detonated them. This led to the complete destruction of the fort with landslides covering the entire fang pass and a mile for three miles from the fort, debris being flung for ten miles away, including into Basq, thinking the guards that they were under attack, and shattering windows for fifty miles. The explosion itself was heard throughout Undinia over the next twenty-four hours.   With the Basq pass blocked, Geneviève took control of the remaining southern Basq forces, bolstering the army with Hobgoblins. Launching an attack on central Rivell through the Warrior's way. At the same time, a massive assault on Orslon saw the city fall into Basq hands. Geneviève also imprisoned the majority of Grunkel's Angels as they looked into her. Charles Hrengain moved his army to relieve the city of Orslon.

Sudden end

With the war seemingly in full swing, two events happened very quickly, first Stephan Freed the other angels and quickly made their way after the Basq army, forming a plan with Iti. Secondly, a battle between Basq forces and Charles' Tourlu knights led to a crushing defeat for Basq with Charles leading his cavalry south to fight the remaining forces.   The remaining The purple knights in Rivell, under Count Jackle of Nordfer, set up camp just off of Warrior's way, forcing the Basq forces to set up camp and rest. This, however, was part of Stephan's plan, allowing him, Lokz, and László to slip into the camp at night, using the quickly arriving Tourlu forces as a distraction to empty the camp, Stephan assassinated Geneviève, earning him the name kinslayer. Racing out to stop the fighting as various battle lines formed from all sides, this caused the Hobgoblins to flee and the Basq forces to surrender. Charles informed the group that he would inform the queen of the victory, Knighting László as a knight of Tourlu.

Aftermath

The immediate aftermath involved several groups to start referring to Stephan as 'Grace', much to his annoyance. The forces of Tourlu and Knights of Basq traveled west to join the larger conflict in Frostmourn. The Duchess and Duke of Basq were arrested and held, with an intermediary governor put in place, till Stephan returned to deal with the issue of his heritage. Though this was officially the end of the civil war, it would take several months for peace to fully return to Rivell, due to Stephan's decleration.
