Cry of Destruction
We heard the crone scream, the sinner twisting and corrupting her to his will, her wise men driven mad, their hubris turned against them. We ignored the Crone's pleas. We heard the drums of the Warrior, his host spreading across the land. The land gorged on armies while Rivers thirsted for the blood. We heard the Warrior's drums, and we saw nothing wrong. We heard the Devourer's roar, as it engulfed even darkness. It cursed us to despair and razed the wilds. We heard the Devourer's roar and saw it as another's problem. We pleaded with the Mother for sucker, though our answers were left unanswered, the Mother had been ravaged by the locusts, her fields barren, stores empty. We saw the mother's body, and still only cared for ourselves. We witnessed Chaos whisper to the court, driving our stewards against each other, feeding their jealousy, paranoia, and Greed. He turned brother on brother and drove son to kill Father. We witnessed Chaos' whispers and cheered. We encountered The wanderer, all-knowing and seeing. He warned us of our doom and preached to band together. He preached Hope and salvation, and we scoffed. We saw the servant of the Scourge rage, tearing through our extremities. He herded us to folly and drowned our souls for he had taken the form of that we trusted. We stared into the Scourge and shook in fear. We sought out our Guardian, to command him to save us. To rise and tear the horrors we had allowed limb from limb. We searched for the Guardian and found him already dead. "And this is the domain of the dead" Death decreed, Cities crumbled and the streets filled with servants of death. We heard Death's decree, but it was too late.-Cry of Destruction Towards the end of the Blood Age, a knowledge seeker found an ancient worn tablet in the northeast part of the Dragon-teeth mountains written in ancient primordial. Once deciphered parallels were drawn to several events of history, with more coming to light in the Fey Age. It became suspected this was a cyclical era of destruction. while what exactly counts and whether the Crisis of the Fey age was one of these cycles was heavily debated until the Sanctuary was found, revealing the three crisis', The end of the first era, end of the forgotten era, and the Crisis of the Fey age.
breakdown
While as a whole the text speaks of a destruction cycle, each verse seems to talk about a specific event. At first, it was thought to be just a description but after a conversation between Grunkle's Angels and The First Lich, it was discovered that each verse refers to actual seals, with a conversation with The wanderer revealing these seals anchor life and civilization.Crone and Sinner
While believed to describe the breaking of a cardinal rule of magic and thus causing widespread magical disaster, it became known later that it refers to magic being used to break the fabric of reality. The first was done when the First Lich, a favourite disciple of Garni, created the first true phylactery and thus broke the cycle of life and death. The sage creating the first tear breaking the barrier between realms broke the second while a wish spell creating a paradox in reality caused the third. The drums of war
The description was originally thought to mean a destructive conflict that eradicates entire populations, specifically marginalized groups due to the last line. This has led many to argue the Demon Prophet should be placed on the list of cycles, though others disagree due to the lack of other events, and proved not to be later. It was later discovered that just a massive lose of life through violence by an army that put the whole of Undinia under threat. This was the Wildmen of the west first, the demon horde in the second case, and the undead of the north in the Fey Age.Devourer and the Wilds
Originally suspected to refers to widespread destruction, possibly by the Warrior's host, while others argue it is from more primal forces that cause the destruction. It was found to specifically mean widespread destruction by fire in a way that spirals events. Whether that's forcing a horde deeper into civilized lands, causing mass panic and more death or unleashing the conflux on the world. It should be pointed out while thought to be the first seal to be saved, that is only true if only the crisis of the fey age is looked at.The Mother
Connections between this verse and the ancient goddess Dina who was originally called the Mother in the era of ages, have been drawn, with the verse referring to a famine event, possibly caused by the preceding events or some other 'locust'. Many noticed a link between this and the last verse, as the cry seems to change to more consequences of the events than new events. While most of the originally thought was correct for the first cycle it was not for the later two, with destruction of farmland causing major food shortages being the case. Though the seal only breaks at the tipping point, not general destruction.Chaos and court
Many gods who seem to like to spread Chaos have been identified from Hizrass, Metis, and Shade among others. With a few of these and others like Cheshire referencing Karmic justice. Many believed this was civil unrest caused by the events. This is the other event that was used to argue for the Demon Prophet as an event. It was later discovered that it was the loss of leadership due to division within rather then without. The wanderer
The wanderer is a known God from ancient times, though many questioned why the warning comes so late in the cry. This was discovered at the sanctuary and is late as it's the wanderer trying to rally the remaining world to aid in the crises and save what the can. This was saved in the second cycle by the Elves and Dwarfs securing their borders and taking in as many refugees as they could. The two facts combined mean it is the saving of civilisation by unity and disunity breaks it.Servant of the scourge
While this was an known for the longest, with theories circling around control through fear and tyranny, it was discovered to be the spreading of unrest and disunity by the Scourge. The Guardian
While originally thought to refer to 'guardians' of the world seeming to disappear right before or during the events of the suspected crises and the too late fighting back of the populace, this was discovered to be false. It refers to a being powerful enough to protect their area's from the threat and possibly change the tide of battle. The God Diama was the first one and found dead. The Ancient primal beasts while alive and were thought to have killed thousands of demons, saving the seal, wasn't utilized properly and so didn't change the tide. The sanctuary confirmed the guardian during the fey age was Draco, though many at the time were confused as he had disappeared, He did appear in to turn the tide against Sardia.Land of Death
Originally a debate on whether this refers to the final destruction event of civilization or is the end of the event when civilization has already collapsed. It was finally confirmed to mean the final event that would either end or save to world.Historical Basis
While there is discussion about there being an early event due to The First Lich's claim, it is generally accepted that Sage's sin is the only definite event at the end of the Forgotten Era. It was also suspected that several other crises including the Phervian invasion, Rebel Age, and Demon Prophet are argued until the discovery of the sanctuary confirmed only the first era, forgotten era and Fey age has had these crisis.
Variations & Mutation
I made the crone scream, twisting her will to my own, driving her followers mad and turning their power against them. I broke the first seal, but it has been broken again try not to let too many more break-The first Lich to Grunkle's Angels, a variation of the first verse.
