The Wound
The Wound is the name for the river and canal system that cuts through Awarth. Vital to the economy of the industrial city, the waterway connects to a canal system used to transport goods and waste, but its water, saturated with Gree runoff and other pollutants, are a constant hazard.
Geography
The Wound slices through Awarth, dividing the city into distinct regions connected by an intricate network of canals and bridges. Its banks are lined with dense industrial infrastructure—refineries, warehouses, and docks—while parts of the river vanish beneath sprawling slums and forgotten undercity locales. The Wound’s slow, brackish flow is fed by tributaries that gather pollution from surrounding Holds, carrying it downstream to the Blast. Narrow, winding waterways branch off into the districts, creating a labyrinthine network essential to the city's trade and transport.
Ecosystem
The Wound’s ecosystem is a testament to resilience in adversity. It provides a home to a patchwork of hardy species that have adapted to the toxic conditions. Bacteria thrive in its oily waters, breaking down pollutants but releasing noxious gases. Small, deformed fish and scavenging crustaceans endure the chemical-laden environment, feeding on detritus and providing a precarious food chain for Awarth’s urban wildlife.
