The Spoolhouse
The Spoolhouse, a repurposed weaving mill in Brackenbridge, serves as a vital communication hub for The Undertow. The building's eerie silhouette looms over the marsh, its skeletal remains buzzing with encrypted whispers that guide revolutionary efforts across Awarth. Though decrepit, the Spoolhouse’s defiance of ruin reflects the resolve of its users.
Purpose / Function
The Spoolhouse functions as a covert headquarters for the Undertow's information network. Here, encrypted messages are crafted and disseminated via a mix of ciphers and clandestine couriers. It’s a bastion of defiance, coordinating acts of resistance and sabotage.
Architecture
Originally an industrial weaving mill, its high-vaulted ceilings and iron framework evoke bygone industrial ambitions. The building's shell is riddled with gaps patched by salvaged planks and tarps, while rusted machinery has been retooled into a bizarre array of arcane communicators.
Defenses
The Spoolhouse’s remote location and Brackenbridge’s natural mists serve as its first defense. Inside, booby traps crafted from industrial remnants and arcane talismans deter unwanted visitors. The Undertow keeps armed guards and shadowy sentries close to the building.
History
Once a thriving mill that sustained Brackenbridge’s early settlers, the Spoolhouse was abandoned when the poisoned soil rendered textile farming impossible. The Undertow claimed it decades later, giving it a second life as a nerve center for revolution.
