Planktown
Planktown is a community of shacks and sagging wooden platforms precariously balanced above the sucking mud of Tarnmuck Reach. Known as the only reliable trading hub in the Muck, it is a refuge for scavengers, smugglers, and outcasts, its rickety infrastructure a testament to the sheer willpower of its residents. Constantly sinking into the mire, Planktown is in a perpetual state of reconstruction.
Industry & Trade
Planktown thrives on a survival-driven economy fueled by salvage, barter, and black-market trade. Scavengers bring rusted machinery, broken tools, and other finds from the surrounding flats to barter for food, supplies, or equipment. Fisherfolk sell the strange creatures dredged from the muck, while alchemists seek out volatile reagents extracted from the mire’s toxic pools.
History
Planktown began as a modest barter site on a rare patch of firm ground, where scavengers from the Muck would gather to trade finds and share news. Over time, as more outcasts and drifters sought shelter in Tarnmuck Reach, the site expanded haphazardly into a settlement. The relentless pull of the mud has shaped its history—entire sections of Planktown have been swallowed by the mire, rebuilt again and again by its determined residents. Each layer of sinking ruins beneath the current platforms tells the story of those who came before, marking Planktown as a symbol of stubborn survival against entropy.
